Suggestions Edit

I'm going to give you some suggestions about this wiki as we can make several improvements. So here they are:

 • We should close the thread of "The Burn Wall". Even though those opinions are made anonymously, the negative ones are still considered as personal attacks. This is a collaborative site not a community site, so we shouldn't make opinions about any other contributors.
 • I've been checking through the admin request page, and I've concluded that this wiki will be flooding in adminisrators. I suggest that you should reconsider they requests more complicated than before as some admins who were absent in the past few weeks have returned to this wiki. More importantly, you should close the admin request page when no more admins are required.

I hope you listen to me for this time. --Walker guy94 (talk) 08:20, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks for your suggestions. I will consider taking action in the next few days. When I was first given the ability to give other admin rights I was told by Wikia's helper "the more admins, the better!", but you are not the first to suggest that there may be a limit or ratio between admins and regular editors. I will do some research on it and also check on which admins are still active. I was looking at a wikia a couple of days ago (Avatar wiki I think) and they have strict policies regarding how long an admin can be inactive before their adminship is revoked. That might be something we would want to consider. --a_morris (talk) 13:31, April 14, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for responding! I'm sure we can make this wiki even better in the future. --Walker guy94 (talk) 11:00, April 15, 2010 (UTC)
I personally believe that administratorship should only be revoked if the admin has gotten banned for something major (vandalism, etc. minor would be if they didn't vandalize or be rude to another user, but got banned for something else) or if the admin is absent for 1 year & months +, and show no signs of returning to the wiki (i.e. by telling a fellow user on Facebook or something they'll never return to this wiki/Wikia in general). Once they do become active (not just editing 5 pages or something) their administratorship should be given back, because they (probably) worked hard for it! ^_^. Bleeh (talk) 22:38, April 28, 2010 (UTC)
This is my opinion of who you should take away their adminship. TheDataMonster, Bella Goth, Bob Newbie is KL, Walker guy94, and JAL. Archie 02:19, April 29, 2010 (UTC)
Admins become admins for a reason. Whether that reason is that they are good editors, are kind to users, or both, there's is always a reason (or there should always be). Anyways, only staff could remove Bob Newbie is kl's administratorship because he's a bureaucrat, not just a sysop. I do agree with JAL's administratorship being removed, though, it hasn't been 1 year and 3 months since his latest edit. If he doesn't edit before one year and three months is over, I think his administratorship should be removed until he comes back and becomes active once again. If he comes back and becomes active again. Bleeh (talk) 02:38, April 29, 2010 (UTC)

Bob and Betty Newbie of console Edit

Bob and Betty actually are not the same people. Secondly they appear in the console version of the sims 2, not The Sims 2 Pets (Console). —Preceding unsigned comment added by ArchieAndrewfan3001 (talkcontribs) - Sign your comments with ~~~~

I fixed that in Betty Newbie (console)'s page after completely reading Bob's. They seem the same to me they are even married to the same people. --a_morris (talk) 21:09, April 14, 2010 (UTC)

Hi A Morris Edit

Its myuntoldfunstory i have a question do you mind if i make a page on this wiki advertising the sims 2 pets wiki if you dont want me to i completely understand and i DO NOT want to be known as compition im just making that wiki to expand the part aboute it on your wiki and if you want to pleeese tell your freinds about it and if you can pleeeeeeeeese edit if you can possibly do it —Preceding unsigned comment added by Myuntoldfunstory (talkcontribs) - Sign your comments with ~~~~

I will link to your wiki, where we have other related sites, at The Sims Wiki:About and in the sidebar. --a_morris (talk) 00:29, April 15, 2010 (UTC)

Edit

I asked Dharden if he/she (?) wanted a transparent logo, or that it has to be a white logo, because of the background. Dharden said that the logo was a non-issue for him/her (?), and that I should ask you. So, here goes:

Would you like to have a transparent logo or has it to be a white logo, because of the background (can be made more beautiful with #background_strip in Monaco.css)?

I can make the logo transparent, and I can upload it as File:Wiki-transparent, for example.

Dennyboy1997 06:08, June 29, 2010 (UTC)

P.S. Sorry for my awful English, I'm not very good at grammar...

Hiya Edit

Can you take a look at what I wrote on File talk:Wiki.png? I was annoyed at your logo being inside that ugly white box, so I removed it as best as I could. Osetc 14:39, July 4, 2010 (UTC)

request for Bureaucrat Edit

A_morris look at requests for adminship.--Monster2821 21:13, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Hi Monster, I see that you want bureacrat rights, if I was the bureacrat, I would turn you down. You don't have much expirence with wikis but I'm just a regular user here. --Auror. plus the great Andrachome 23:54, July 9, 2010 (UTC)

Two template suggestions Edit

Hello, It's me pestering you again. I got some inspiration for two templates while browsing other wikias. They are basically simple message templates, but I wanted your opinion on their usefulness first. The first is basically just adding a warning to the top of the template page, stating that the template is still under development or undergoing testing and people should not use it. The other template is somewhat similar, but urges users to help out and provide feedback through the talk page. Appropriate categories would be added to the templates of course. This would also make it easier for users to see if someone needs a hand on a template or just wants a second opinion. What are your thoughts? Duskey(talk)(blog) 06:39, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Sounds good. --a_morris (talk) 14:18, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
What about a third asking for feedback/suggestions on developed templates? --a_morris (talk) 14:20, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
That was actually my intention for the 2nd template I mentioned. I guess that was unclear. The purpose of the 1st one would be to stop people seeing it and thinking it's ok to use on pages. The 2nd is to let template-savvy people know that you wouldn't mind some feedback on it and also to make it easy to find said templates (through a category). Duskey(talk)(blog) 22:28, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Admin vs Sysop Edit

Hi, I have noticed that there are two similar templates, here and here. Why are there two so similar templates? Plumbob Jeve' Talk 16:33, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

idk. Does it matter? --a_morris (talk) 16:38, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
An admin and a sys-op is not the same thing and using the same image for both is a good idea since it shows people that this user is part of The Sims Wiki staff. Sorry to butt in on a discussion. Duskey(talk)(blog) 22:32, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
A sysop is an admin but an admin is not always a sysop. However, I don't think it is vital that a userbox make the distinction. --a_morris (talk) 20:39, July 12, 2010 (UTC)
Which reminds me, I've been meaning to ask you something, a morris. Do you mind if people respond to the more trivial matters on your talk page? This page seems quite busy and I easily understand if it gets overwhelming seeing as how you get messages on everything from how to edit an article to vandalism to expansion pack rumors and everything in between. It also appears you're the most active bureaucrat, so I personally see no harm in other users adding answers or clarifications to questions asked, even though it is YOUR talk page. How do you feel about this? Duskey(talk)(blog) 22:35, July 11, 2010 (UTC)
By all means feel free to join in. --a_morris (talk) 20:39, July 12, 2010 (UTC)

66.189.32.187 Edit

I gave this IP a 3-day block for continuing to vandalize after having been warned twice. Given their track record, I'm not sure they don't deserve a week, but I know policy is not to block anon users for too long. Dharden 18:47, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Re: Affiliates Edit

Yes, I had a similar idea. My idea what simply to put websites who link to us in an 'Affiliate' category in addition to 'Websites' and then have that displayed under The Sims Wiki:Affiliates, is that possible using transclusion? It would keep us from updating the list manually and only require us to re-post their microbanner when we add a new one. A banner AND a text list seem redundant if it can be handled by a category.

I'm not sure it'd work, but couldn't we use the 'includeonly' and 'noinclude' tags for the category? Something like this on Category:Affiliates so the normal category text would only show if you were actually on the category page and not on the affiliates page.

<noinclude>A list of websites who have linked back to us.

Category

</noinclude>--CATEGORY LISTING--

The Sims Wiki:Affiliates would look like this:

--TABLE WITH AFFILIATES BANNERS-- (Added manually once we've exchanged pleasantries)

How does that sound? Duskey(talk)(blog) 20:00, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Aha, I see. I just thought it'd be unneccesary to link to affiliates in banner and then text form. Whether we do that or not, I still think the category listing should be included at the bottom. Duskey(talk)(blog) 20:42, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Tookute4m3 Edit

I gave this user a 1-week block for profanity and harassment after they'd already been blocked once for that. Given their attitude and track record, I doubt that they have any intention of becoming a constructive contributor, and am not sure that a week is long enough. Personally, I think they've earned a month, maybe even two, but I'm not sure about going directly from 3 days to one or two months. Dharden 21:42, July 11, 2010 (UTC)

Just a quick heads-up. There may be a minor dispute between Monster & Tookute4m3. See User talk:Monster2821 & User talk:Tookute4m3. I'm not quite sure how to proceed here or whether to do anything at all. Duskey(talk) 00:05, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Troll? Edit

I've been getting ... strange ... edits on my talk page from User:Iesha Parsons. They appear to be attempts to sow discord. Would it be out-of-bounds for me to remove them? Also, any suggestions about what to do in cases like this, aside from following the principle of Do Not Feed the Trolls? Dharden 04:49, July 13, 2010 (UTC)

Votes on redirects Edit

I've noticed that redirect pages, retain their old votes. Doesn't this prevent new votes on the intended article to be seperate of the old votes on the redirect page? Ideally we would need to move the votes on the redirect page to the new page or at least reset the old votes. Also, I think redirect pages should be made ineligible for voting. Are you aware of a way to fix this issue and what are your thoughts? Duskey(talk)(blog) 04:38, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

While you're here. Do you know anything about this? Duskey(talk) 21:21, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
Do you mean the votes on The Sims Wiki:Featured Article/Voting? If the page was renamed I think we can retain the votes made before the move. --a_morris (talk) 21:51, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
No no, the heart thingies down at the bottom. I sometimes see redirects have 4/5 and show up in 'Highest voted' and the article itself might have 2/5, so the heart votes aren't added together. It seems abit silly to me that you can vote on redirects in the first place. Can we do anything to fix this? Duskey(talk) 22:13, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
Take a look at Help:Page ratings. --a_morris (talk) 22:39, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
Okay, I'm bringing the subject up to Wikia, maybe they can shed some more light on it. Duskey(talk) 15:30, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

how to cloning a Sim???pleaseee write back here: feta7@freemail.hu

Caliente Nighat Could you resurrect? —Preceding unsigned comment added by 94.248.192.122 (talkcontribs) 07:41, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

I don't know how to clone a Sim, but to resurrect Nighat Caliente and other sims with no character data, see Resurrecting tips#Resurrecting Sims with no character data. My apologies to a morris if I'm intruding. Duskey(talk)(blog) 05:57, July 14, 2010 (UTC)

'This file' links on copyright tags Edit

Hi there, I'm back to bother you. I see most copyright tags were added by the old helper Richard1990. I'm sure he meant well, but as discussed at The Sims Wiki talk:Project Message template standardization#Removal of 'this file' links in copyright tags we should probably remove the 'this file' link in order for unused files to show up properly using the special page. Asking permission to do so. Duskey(talk)(blog) 13:22, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

Also, how do you track images where the uploader deleted the licensing tag so it doesn't have no license? Duskey(talk)(blog) 16:42, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

I usually look at Special:UncategorizedFiles. However, some images were categorized but not licensed. There isn't an easy way to find them. Unfortunately, Special:ListFiles doesn't list their licenses, but I think the older they are the more likely they were not licensed. --a_morris (talk) 21:19, July 15, 2010 (UTC)
I was afraid of that. Oh well, we'll handle them as they come. I've been thinking about applying for admin, but I'm not quite sure I'm there yet. I mean you're still quiting wikipedia help pages for me :p but the wiki probably could use the extra hands. And it's starting to annoy me that I can't delete my own pages nor move files. What do you think about it? Duskey(talk)(blog) 22:05, July 15, 2010 (UTC)

User:Duskey if you want to become an admin leave a request on the requests for adminship page.--Danny(Monster2821) 15:13, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Minor change to the news template Edit

I thought I'd give you a heads up. You seem to be the one who primarily edits the news template in regards to releases. I changed it abit, details are here: Template talk:News#Editing the releases. Duskey(talk)(blog) 18:56, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Thanks xD Edit

Thanks so much : D I always come to this wiki first when I have questions about the games, and when I have a question to ask you I'll be sure to ask : D Kibarashi 20:01, July 16, 2010 (UTC)

Voting archive Edit

Hi. The vote on deleting The Sims 4 page ended, and I was wondering if there is a designated place established to archive voting results (which can currently be found here). Thanks! -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog) 04:04, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

I've moved it to The Sims Wiki talk:Community Portal/The Sims 4. --a_morris (talk) 17:32, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Request for admin Edit

There's a response on requests for adminship. And it's not me.--Danny(Monster2821) 14:48, July 17, 2010 (UTC)

Question about namespaces Edit

Does this wiki use the Portal and Project mainnamespaces? Did Project get renamed to The Sims Wiki? and what happened to the Portal mainnamespace?

PS: I noticed that almost all the userboxes sort users under U for User. It'd be some work to fix that. I tested out a fix in the Fan kaylynnts2 and it seems to work. It's just inserting |PAGENAME, I'm thinking about adding a heads-up on the Community Portal talk page, just so we can avoid it for future userboxes. I don't think the changes till take effect until the user edits their page though, but again, keeping the future in mind. Duskey(talk) 13:49, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Project is synonymous with The Sims Wiki. ex. Project:About and The Sims Wiki:About go to the same page. Don't know about the Portal namespace. It doesn't seem to be a default namespace. What did you have in mind for it? --a_morris (talk) 14:47, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Well I'm mostly curious. I've just seen other wikia's use Portals eg. The Vault:Fallout 3 & WoWwiki:Cataclysm. I don't think our wiki is big enough or active enough to effectivly use them at the moment though. I have another idea for a custom namespace, but it's part of a larger project. I really wanted to get some more action done on the message template standard project thingy. Duskey(talk) 16:36, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
One thing I miss though is a way to communicate more to other wikians interested in the maintenance of the site without alerting everyone. The community portal talk page would quickly get spammed, but I'm missing a place to add stuff like: "btw, I reverse engineered the old timer template and made it only display the text, so now you can insert it into your own boxes or just in-line if you prefer. The new skinny template is at countdown" and messages like the one about userboxes and how they're not sorting users quite correct. I don't want it to seem like an admin- or experienced user club, but on the other hand it should be blasted out on the main page in blogs either. I can't really come up with an answer myself at the moment. Do you have any ideas how or where I could make the more involved wiki'er aware of such information? Duskey(talk) 20:04, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
One means of communication I/we haven't used recently is MediaWiki:Sitenotice (Help:Site notice)). I'm not sure if it is what you're looking for, though it could be used to direct users to a blog or talk page. --a_morris (talk) 20:26, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
That's overkill for what I had in mind. I'm thinking something like a talk page for site maintenance/administration. Abit like the community portal talk page, but in smaller scope. I wish I didn't have to spam that with every little thing. I'd personally prefer if the community talk page was kept for larger projects as it is now. Affiliation program, the future DYK section and gallery changes which are all already there as examples. I think I have an idea: How about a The Sims Wiki:Site maintenance page which is sort of an expanded 'how to help out' section from the community portal. It should list trivial perpetual tasks like many of the special pages help us with, but also mention more current stuff which aren't neccesarily projects, such as making sure userboxes sort usernames properly. That new page's talk page could be the fabled place I'm speaking of. How do you think that sounds? Duskey(talk) 21:15, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Yes, that sounds good. I have actually thought that the The Sims Wiki:Community Portal page should be changed to highlight the issues the community is discussing. If we move some of the more trivial tasks to a new page they'll stand out more. --a_morris (talk) 21:34, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
You're right, we'll get on it soon. While I have you, how did you locate player story pages without the template? Manually or is there a trick to it? Duskey(talk) 21:46, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
Created The Sims Wiki talk:Development Portal. Duskey(talk) 13:36, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
Which Player stories? I found some here recently. Its one of several special pages I check regularly. --a_morris (talk) 22:44, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I've seen them there aswell, yes. 'Wanted Categories' also catches when people write their story in the category field :p Duskey(talk) 00:05, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

IRC Edit

A few wikians are on the IRC channel atm if you're up for it. Could be fun to chat abit outside of talk pages. Duskey(talk) 16:57, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Which reminds me, do you have auth on Chanserv in there? I have abit of IRC experience and I'd love to add admins be be promoted in there. Duskey(talk) 10:11, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

I doubt it. I don't know what you're talking about. I'm a newbie when it comes to IRC. --a_morris (talk) 20:54, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
I believe I have it covered now :) Duskey(talk) 00:05, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Sims Livin Large and Living it Up Edit

Hello i just bought Sims Livin it Up, is Sims Livin Large and Sims Living iy up the same thing?--Khan1998stevewhite 20:23, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

The Sims: Livin it Up is the UK version of The Sims Livin' Large. --a_morris (talk) 20:28, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

Admin Edit

Thanks for the admin position. I'll do my best and hopefully I can help take off some of your workload. However this raises some questions. Where do we stand on unused user files? How about images of sims who are older than their premade state or in situations obviously the result of player interactions? Duskey(talk) 20:42, July 18, 2010 (UTC)

If the unused user files are unrelated to The Sims they should be deleted. If we're not going to use the image and the user who uploaded it isn't, there's no point. It would be kinda cool to have a gallery of images for a sim at each life stage. Other than examples of hybrids, they aren't really needed. --a_morris (talk) 21:46, July 18, 2010 (UTC)
A few more admin questions: Would it be ok to blank the user and talk pages of permanently blocked users and delete their sub-pages, templates and files which are not in use anywhere? It would seem ok since you can't come back from a permanent block and there shouldn't be any reason to use any of the material or pages I mentioned.
Also, I noticed some admins have semi- or fully protected their pages, isn't this in conflict with the 'good faith' guideline? Duskey(talk) 12:10, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I believe the user who have protected their user page experienced excessive vandalism. It may be ok to lift the the protection now. I guess it's ok to get rid of banned users stuff. --a_morris (talk) 21:57, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I'll get on it, thank you. Duskey(talk) 22:24, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
I had a little run-in with JEA13 as I was deletion some of Amy Cotton's sub-pages, which sparked my suggestion for additions to our policy: The Sims Wiki talk:Policy#Expanding our 5th policy. Duskey(talk) 22:53, July 20, 2010 (UTC)
Also I wonder if some of the Special:ProtectedTitles would be ok to unprotect. Duskey(talk) 22:53, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

Main page Changing Edit

When will the main page section's featured article and media be changed?--Danny(Monster2821) 07:10, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Featured articles and media are changed at the beginning of each month. --a_morris (talk) 21:57, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

requirements for bureaucrat. Edit

What are the requirements for bureacrat? Because on the R.F.A. page it only lists the requirements for adminship.--Danny(Monster2821) 19:11, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

This is from the Avatar Wiki:

 • Be highly trusted by the community over a long period of time
I like the way the have their request pages set up and want to set up something similar here soon. --a_morris (talk) 22:16, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Okay ,i will work to get 1,000 edits and be trustworthy.--Danny(Monster2821) 22:21, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

My apologies for jumping into the conversation, but Duskey Bleeh and I were throwing around the idea of splitting off requests for Rollback priviledges or other user priviledges from the Requests for Administratorship page. Granted, we weren't going to do anything since neither of us are Bureaucrats, but we thought it might be an idea we should bring to you. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 22:25, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

We need at least 2 more bureacrats so keep that position open.--Danny(Monster2821) 22:32, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

I agree with you both. I want to discuss them with the whole community in the near future. --a_morris (talk) 22:41, July 19, 2010 (UTC)
That setup from the Avatar wiki is actually pretty sweet. We should have that. Duskey(talk) 23:24, July 19, 2010 (UTC)

Yes,we should have a R.F.B page.Because it works good on the avatar wiki.--Danny(Monster2821) 00:29, July 20, 2010 (UTC)

I like those boxes, Duskey. I'm creating the template. Adminnav What information would you suggest for the "About requests" page? --a_morris (talk) 21:58, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
Something like "registered and experienced users can apply for additional privileges, but these come with added responsibilities and must be handled appropriately." I wouldn't give any specific requirements (like "you must have had x edits") but I would say that users who apply for any position must show that they are comfortable with the wiki interface, haven't participated in behavior that harms the wiki, and that they are willing to devote time to using the tools for their intended purpose. Maybe also state that applications aren't responded to right away, and that a user that applies will receive a message on their talk page when their request is accepted/denied. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 22:19, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I think it's important to stress out that admins aren't police officers, they're regular users with a few extra buttons. Weshould also point out that being 'promoted' or gaining higher and higher user access level isn't a natural evolution and does not reflect amount of contributions nor the date you joined this site. I have a suspecion that some people view it as 'ranks' where you naturally level up after some time, like a computer game. I like what's been done with the admin page. Duskey(talk) 11:23, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

Help with userbox templateEdit

I can't quite get Userbox irc to work like I want to. Basicually I just want it to add the input of an optional variable at the end if there is any and have a period at the end aswell, but I can't get it to make a space where the optional #if starts. Can I get you to take a quick look at it? Duskey(talk) 00:05, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

I usually add " ". --a_morris (talk) 01:30, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Good thinking Edit

...on the 'related discussions' you added. It's lists like those I imagine will be added to the Delvelopment Portal's main page. I'll get around to make it one of these days. Duskey(talk) 22:37, July 21, 2010 (UTC)

Changing the side menu Edit

I wanted to change the 'List of Traits' in the menu to the traits page since we built that fancy table there, but I don't know the syntax currently posted there. I edited my personal menu just fine, but the main one eludes me. Duskey(talk) 23:55, July 22, 2010 (UTC)

#category-<categorynamehere># links to the category and generates the articles for the sub menu. 'List of Traits' was probably chosen because it was a popular page. To remove it from the list we would have to 1) make more edits to 'Traits' and other articles in that category or 2) change the sidebar by manually adding Simology articles. --a_morris (talk) 02:33, July 23, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, that tag means auto-generated. I see. Hmmm, not sure how best to go abot this, I'll leave it for now. I added The Sims Wiki:Affiliates and The Sims Wiki talk:Development Portal to the menu, in the right places I think. Duskey(talk) 15:28, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

how to create a template page Edit

how do you do create a template page?monster2821 i'm trying to create a sig..

I can recommend reading Help:Creating templates, Help:A quick guide to templates and in this case Wikipedia:Signatures. It's probably a good idea to look at other templates in Category:Templates to see how they are coded. Start with the simple ones and test one out for yourself. You can use your userpages or the sandbox for testing. Duskey(talk) 15:26, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

Message Edit

A morris, I've left a message, directed for you, on the Requests for adminship talk page... it was a debate between posting it here or posting it there, so it's posted there. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 00:35, July 24, 2010 (UTC)

Thank you for understanding Edit

I really appreciate your work for what you've done for this wiki, I'm trying to think of something but nothing's come to mind yet. I promise to be more active and revert vandal edits. --Auror. plus the great Andrachome 10:08, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

Blocking 77.238.212.48 Edit

Is that not a bit too harsh? I saw he made the page, deleted by Bella Goth, he made it again, deleted by you and now he's banned for the day? I added a message on his talk page, informing him or her of their mistake. A new user would probably not notice that the page was deleted by an administrator in the first place, disregard it as a fluke and try again. In my opinion, a block is too harsh. What is your opinion? Duskey(talk) 15:51, July 25, 2010 (UTC)

A soft block for a repeat offense. I think I went easy. --a_morris (talk) 15:53, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I think I may have misunderstood something then with the Assume good faith and Please do not bite the newcomers. It looked to me that he user was not aware that the page was deleted the first time around, disregarded it as a fluke and tried again, not knowing that his or her actions was a mistake since no one told him or her. Duskey(talk) 16:06, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I see your point. I will reverse the block. But I just don't see the point of giving warnings to anonymous users. They probably don't even know they have a talk page and it is not fixed to one person. --a_morris (talk) 16:19, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
That is very true, but don't they get the 'You have new messages' like everyone else? I'd say that SHOULD get their attention. I like to at least offer the benefit of doubt and who knows, the user may read the message and not repeat the mistake. Personally I was quite shocked to see non-registered users was able to edit anything at all. It might broaden the potential userbase, especially with the more inexperienced crowd, but it also opens up to issues similar to these. I'm glad that we can discuss these issue and reach some neutral ground. My personal opinion of this is, first a note on their talk page, then we can discuss warnings/blocks, whatever is appropriate. Murphy's Law dictates however, that the user will repeat his mistake and I'm left looking like a fool :p In that case I'll not argue for this case anymore, but maybe others. Duskey(talk) 16:27, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I'm going to weigh in a bit on this. I think the issue here may not be procedure, but rather a mixed-up order of procedure. So, if an unregistered user creates a fanon page, that page should obviously be deleted. But, I think it's only right to tell that user, regardless of whether or not they will read the warning, that their page is being deleted before the page is actually deleted. Why before? If the warning/message is already on their talk page, then if the user creates the page again, they will have ignored the warning, thus making them more clearly "in the wrong." Otherwise, the user might already re-create their page not aware that it was purposefully deleted and before they received a warning telling them not to create the page again. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 16:34, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
That's a good guideline to go by for non-sense/fanon content. On vandalism with rude/explicit language it would be undo/rollback followed by a swift block, in my opinion. This is all case-to-case and I don't think we can define rules for it, but reminder to the user first, then delete as LIR said would help immensely on this particular kind of user mistake. Duskey(talk) 16:40, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
By giving a warning, we do give the user a chance to correct his mistake. If he does recreate the page before seeing the warning, he can then blank the page or mark it for deletion. But we can't let the creator of a page stop us from delete unacceptable content otherwise it would damage our credibility. --a_morris (talk) 16:50, July 25, 2010 (UTC)
I'm not certain I understand your latest comment fully, a morris. What you're saying first is the ideal scenario where the users sees our notice and corrects the mistake himself. This is only used when the content is non-harmful of course and any profanity, abuse or vandalism will be undone on sight. Duskey(talk) 21:34, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

Admin positions Edit

I was wondering if you could label me as 'IRC contact' under admin positions. It'll help people to know where to go, especially wikia staff or freenode people if something's up with the channel. I was also wondering about adding a new position: 'Public Relations' or 'Affiliates', I'd be willing to sign up for that too since I'm already handling the affiliates and websites section. Do you like these ideas? Duskey(talk) 11:27, July 26, 2010 (UTC)

Maybe I should apply for the positions first? I'd be up for writing my ideas on what a 'Public Relations' admin actually does, but I wanted to hear your thoughts before I went any further. Duskey(talk) 01:06, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
Ah, you already went ahead and added them, I didn't notice since it's templated now :p Duskey(talk) 15:45, July 27, 2010 (UTC)
I added my take on admin positions to The Sims Wiki talk:Administrators. Duskey(talk) 23:08, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
On a related note: Is it only bureaucrats who decide which positions need filling and who can take them on? Duskey(talk) 13:17, August 4, 2010 (UTC)
Bureaucrats might see a need that the general community might not. As far as who fills the position, it could be a nomination & vote process. --a_morris (talk) 17:46, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

History of the site Edit

I think we should add a few lines about the history of the site on our About page. Other than founding date and that it was Jamie who started it, do you know anything? Duskey(talk) 08:27, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

I'd hate to be a pain, but... *bump* Duskey(talk) 23:08, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

I've been here since April 2008. Makiah promoted me to an admin in May. There are some old discussion in the community portal archives. I can't think of anything particularly significant happening. Before The Sims 3 was to be released in Feb 2009 we got a lot of new contributors. In Jan 2009 The Sims Fanon Wiki was created. Because of all the new contributors I requested being promoted to a bureaucrat and it was granted in April 2009. There was the Logo Contest and that was when we got the new skin as well courtesy of JoePlay. Then The Sims 3 Release Countdown. --a_morris (talk) 03:29, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
I added what I could to the about page. Community portal talk archive didn't give me anything though. Only major events and such should be added, such as major interface changes, logos, major restructuring etc. I guess it's fine for the time being, but I wouldn't mind expanding a bit on our "Our mission". I'll start a topic about it on community portal talk soon'ish. Duskey(talk) 13:15, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

HI!!! Edit

--Myuntoldfunstory 17:24, July 28, 2010 (UTC)Could you possibly make me an admin also on ALL the pages about the sims 2 pets (console) could you make a link to my wiki

Hey there. I'm quite sure you cannot give admin privledges per article. We have a link to your wiki in our main menu to the left and on our Affiliates page and I've recently added one to the The Sims 2 Pets (console) page. Do you mean you want a link from eg. Bob and Betty to your wiki? If so, you don't need to be an administrator to do that, but remember that it works both ways. Personally I think it would be a bad idea to link every page on your wiki to the corresponding one here and vice-versa. I believe it will only help confuse people and they wouldn't know where to add their information. Duskey(talk) 23:13, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

Sig question Edit

How do you make a custom sig. like this:"Monster2821(talk)"?--Danny(Monster2821) 22:47, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

Hey Monster. Have you checked out Help:Signature#How do I change my signature?. It has an example similar to what you're looking for:
To get this, go to your Preferences (on any Wikia) and check the Raw signatures (without automatic link) box. Then enter
User:Example (talk)

Duskey(talk) 23:07, July 28, 2010 (UTC)

Wikipedia also has some guidelines on the subject of signatures: Wikipedia:Signatures. Duskey(talk) 23:09, July 28, 2010 (UTC) I tryed this, and i think it worked.--Monster2821 (talk) 01:51, July 29, 2010 (UTC)

Late Night downtown name contest Edit

Since the new neighborhood in Late Night hasn't got a name yet, perhaps we should hold a naming competition/vote here on the site. Who knows, maybe we'll get some good ones. I'm writing this to you since you're in charge of the featured stuff. What do you think? Duskey(talk) 02:02, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

Great idea! --a_morris (talk) 02:43, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
Now that the name has been chosen by EA (Bridgeport), what do we do? Ditch the contest and do another one for the rest of the month or keep going? Duskey(talk) 03:40, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
Let's end the contest. --a_morris (talk) 14:47, August 17, 2010 (UTC)
In the contest idea thing I only see the following:
 • Best party (video)
 • Best screenshot ???
 • Best house
 • Coolest downloadable object
 • Best fanon stories
 • Photography contest

I think we should keep videos and downloadable content out of it so more people can participate. We should also avoid stories, since this isn't really a fanon site. A photograpgy contest sounds cool, but I'd say it has to be a specific theme or motive (scenery, house, urban, party, some sim activity) and a limited amount of entries per person, maybe even just one. Best house might also be cool, people could link to the article page if we have it on the house. Hope this helps. Duskey(talk) 16:11, August 17, 2010 (UTC)

Nice save with the votes, I like it :) Duskey(talk) 22:23, August 18, 2010 (UTC)

Admin action required? Edit

What do you make of this? He recieved a warning for unconstructive edit from Bleeh back in March. I have no idea if I should issue a warning or block him since he reverted it himself. If you ask me it's not a 'change of heart', it's rather an insult or trying to provoke an attack since he's well aware Bleeh will eventually check it when she is back. How should we proceed? Duskey(talk) 04:23, July 31, 2010 (UTC)

I think it could have been an accident, he probably meant to copy it, and he did put it on his userpage a second later. But I noticed on his talk page that he has gotten several warnings. This might apply. if only... --a_morris (talk) 15:47, July 31, 2010 (UTC)
I think it's resolved now. Duskey(talk) 09:29, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
Or not. a morris, could you please take a look at User:Eduardog3000#Admins and User talk:Eduardog3000#Spam. I'm already involved and quite biased in this matter so I'd prefer not to take any action at the moment. Duskey(talk) 21:32, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

Community image templateEdit

Any reason why this was never implemented? Template:Community Image Duskey(talk) 09:29, August 1, 2010 (UTC)

It was intended for Community [1] but the creator removed it. I don't know why. --a_morris (talk) 15:55, August 1, 2010 (UTC)
Asking RR as he seems to be back now. Duskey(talk) 12:58, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Featured stuff guidelines Edit

Would it be an idea to point up that new entries always go a the bottom? I personally think it's a bit unfair if people insert new nominations at the top. It could result in people editing the page and moving their nominations up if they want them to win. Also, would it be an idea to template the featured contest since the other featured stuff is already templated? Duskey(talk) 15:50, August 2, 2010 (UTC)

I took the liberty of adding it as a guideline on the vote pages. Duskey(talk) 14:38, August 10, 2010 (UTC)

CWAM Edit

I added a new template, just for fun: Template:Cwam :) I hope you're not offended in any way, it IS actually meant as a tribute. Many discussions between LIR and I have just often ended in "Dunno, check with a morris". I apologize beforehand if you do take offense and I assure you none was intended. Duskey(talk) 13:19, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

No offense taken. I like a good laugh. --a_morris (talk) 17:48, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Help Editing Edit

Hi,i am new to editing on any kind of wiki and i wanted to edit the frio family onomatology section but i wasnt sure how and i hoped you had the answer. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SuperBeethoven (talkcontribs) - Sign your comments with ~~~~

Hi SuperBeethoven. Family pages use a template which can be tricky for new users to understand how they work. You can find out about templates here.Frio family uses Family template (If you are using the Rich Text Editor it may show up as a green puzzle piece. I suggest changing to "Source" mode) and to change the onomatology section by editing after |etymology = . --a_morris (talk) 21:48, August 4, 2010 (UTC)

Human --> Sim Edit

Hey A Morris. I happened onto your to-do list and noticed it was quite lengthy, so I took the liberty of transfering most references of human to Sim - since most of these were in the Simbio infoboxes, it was really simple if not a bit... boring. Anyways, you can see here that no Sim pages have 'human' any longer, so you can go ahead and scratch number 7 off your list. As I said before, that list is quite long, so if you have any tasks you'd like to handle but don't have the time to do, consider throwing it my way. I'll continue to peek on your to-do list and maybe I'll do something else. Btw, just noticing your goal of switching over from Sim to Sim2... I don't know for sure, but that might be a job for Duskey's bot, since that's a ton of articles that need changing. Anyways, have a good day. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 06:42, August 5, 2010 (UTC)

I'll need to know what needs to be changed exactly before I can do that. If it just adding a 2 after Sim I think it's doable, if anything else needs to be changed as well I'll have to look in to it, but lemme know. Duskey(talk) 13:00, August 5, 2010 (UTC)
I usually do those two tasks at the same time and fix up the article as well. If the Sim is from an expansion, I have started adding it to the game parameter. I also make sure the name of the game is in the body of the article. --a_morris (talk) 20:24, August 6, 2010 (UTC)
I found that when editing the simbio infoboxes, while on the Sim2 template, if no life state is given, it defaults to 'Normal'; on the Sim template there is no such default. Therefore, in most if not all Sims changed from Human to Sim, I also changed the Sim to a Sim2. -- Patrick (LostInRiverview) (talk)(blog)(random page) 21:29, August 6, 2010 (UTC)
Thanks for the help LiR. Here's a list of the sims. --a_morris (talk) 22:45, August 7, 2010 (UTC)

Inactive adminsEdit

How far along are you on this? Since you're the only 'crat who's active it's really up to. I suggest we keep a list of previous admins, regardless if they stepped down or became inactive.
