Requests for rollback is the venue where users can file requests for access to the rollback user group. Users who are rollbacks have access to a tool called "rollback", which allows them to quickly revert vandalism and other non-constructive edits from pages in one click. Rollbacks also have the ability to mark edits as patrolled using the recent changes patrol extension. There is no maximum number of rollback users, so if you would like to obtain rollback rights, please do not hesitate to make a request.

There is no maximum number of rollback users, so if you would like access to the rollback tool and are qualified, please do not hesitate to make a request.

Qualifications
Qualifications
  +
There are no firm qualifications for receiving access to the rollback tool. However, the rollback tool is not intended to be given to new editors who are just starting out; only established users with a decent history of good-quality edits are eligible. Users are recommended to have at least 200 edits to The Sims Wiki, with a majority of those edits being in the main namespace of the wiki. Editors with a current or recent history of edit warring are disqualified, as are any users who previously requested the rollback tool but were denied and given a limit on re-requesting that hasn't expired yet.
Users applying for or being nominated for rollback rights should be active or semi-active members of the wiki. Rollback candidates should have a strong history of positive contributions to the wiki, with an emphasis on the quality of those edits over the quantity of edits made. Candidates should have no recent history of blocks or negative contributions to the wiki.

  +
Procedure for requests
Procedures
  +
* A user meeting the qualifications can request the rollback tool below. Users should explain why they want rollback and/or should point to past anti-vandalism work they've done in justifying why they should receive the tool.

  +
* Once a request is submitted, a seven-day waiting period begins. Discussion is not strictly necessary, but any user can weigh in on the request, including by asking direct questions to the requesting user.
1. Add your name, or the name of the user you are nominating, as a subheading under the section "Current Requests" and give a concise explanation (no more than several lines) as to why you or the nominee should receive rollback rights. Please sign your posts.

  +
** Users who are obviously unqualified may be declined even before the end of the seven-day period, and are not allowed to re-apply for at least one week.
*If a user is nominated by another user, the nominee must respond on this page and accept the nomination before the request can be considered. Nominees should reply to nominations within two weeks; nominations older than two weeks may be dismissed if the nominee does not respond.

  +
* At the end of the waiting period, an active administrator will decide whether the applicant is qualified and whether the request is acceptable. The administrator that responds to the request should take any user input in the selection into account when deciding whether or not to grant access to the rollback tool. However, this decision is not strictly based on community consensus; the administrator may choose not to give rollback even if there is consensus in favor of approving the request.
  +
** If an administrator chooses to approve the request for rollback, that administrator will go to Special:UserRights and enable the 'rollback' flag for the requesting user. The administrator should post on the requesting user's talk page notifying them that their request has been approved and explain the rollback tool (including explaining the rules for when rollback can and cannot be used)
  +
** If an administrator chooses to decline the request, they should explain why on the request page as well as on the requesting user's talk page.

  +
Limit on re-requesting
2. After a request is made or a nomination is accepted by the nominee, an administrator or bureaucrat will need to support the request, and a second member of the administrative team must concur with the first in favor of promotion. If two members of the administrative team agree that an applicant or nominee is not suitable, the nomination/request is closed and the applicant/nominee is not given rollback rights. If two members of the administrative team disagree on whether an applicant or nominee is suitable, step 4 of these procedures is followed.

  +
When a rollback request is declined, the applicant is not allowed to submit a new request for one week. A user whose request has been declined should consider the reasons why and address/correct any points or criticisms before considering re-application for rollback. Users who re-request despite repeated denials, and who don't make a good faith effort to address or correct the reason(s) for their denials, may be restricted from re-requesting by consensus of the administrative team.
*If a user was nominated by an administrator or bureaucrat, that administrator/bureaucrat's nomination will not be treated as support or as concurrence under this section, and that administrator/bureaucrat may not offer support or concurrence in order to advance the request past this stage.

  +
Removal of the rollback tool
3. After two members of the administrative team concur in favor of a nominee, a 72-hour waiting period will begin. If, at the end of the waiting period, no users have dissented to the request/nomination, the request is closed and the applicant/nominee is given rollback rights.

  +
There are circumstances where a user may have their access to the rollback tool involuntarily removed. These circumstances include (but aren't limited to) situations where:
  +
* A user repeatedly misuses the rollback tool by accident, even after explanations and/or warnings from the administrative team;
  +
* They deliberately misuse the rollback tool in an edit war or editing dispute (severe misuse on just one occasion may warrant removal of the tool);
  +
* They do something to significantly undermine public trust in their abilities or aptitude as an editor, even if that action is not related to a misuse of the rollback tool;
  +
* A community discussion on the discussions forum leads to a consensus that the tool should be removed.

  +
An administrator may remove access to the rollback tool immediately if there is evidence of severe and ongoing abuse of the tool, and may issue other sanctions up to or including a full wiki block if necessary. This power should be exercised only in limited circumstances where removal of rollback cannot wait for the conclusion of a discussion.
4. If two administrators disagree about an applicant's suitability, or if any user dissents to the request/nomination during the waiting period, a full discussion in favor of or opposed to the nominee will begin, and will last at least five days from the time of the dissent. If no users dissent to the nomination within three days, the nomination will be approved. Discussions of this nature will follow the discussion guidelines for administratorship requests.

  +
  +
A user who has been stripped of the rollback tool may be restricted from re-requesting the tool by a consensus of the administrative team or by community consensus.
  +
  +
A user who has access to rollback may choose to voluntarily give up that access; see the retirement policy for more information on user rights retirement.

I have been on The Sims Wiki for nearly six months now. I have 301 contributions at the moment that are mostly expanding of pages for Sims from The Sims Pet Stories. I haven't been blocked before here on this wiki. I would like to be considered for the rollback position due to the increase in vandal accounts and sockpuppets. I will be on mostly everyday if offered the rank.

:I'm a bit hesitant on supporting this request. I've been looking at your edits for a few months now. Most of your edits are fairly minor, with not a lot of significant edits, and aren't the kind of quality edits I want to see from a rollback. I do see some anti-vandalism work in your contributions; however, I think manual reverting is sufficient for you at this time. I should also note that you formatted your request incorrectly; I expect rollbacks to have sufficient experience with editing to be able to file requests correctly the first time. Please continue to contribute to the wiki and gain more experience as you go before reapplying. —<span style="color:#0040FF">k6ka</span> <span title="Canadian!" style="color:red">🍁</span> (<span style="color:#0080FF">Talk</span> · <span style="color:#0B4C5F">Contributions</span>) 01:27, October 9, 2018 (UTC)

::Agreed with k6ka. While you do seem to be a fairly good contributor, I'm a bit hesitant with supporting this request myself. I would consider reapplying in the future once you've gotten more experienced at editing. I would expect first time applicants to be able to format their requests correctly for the first time. Though I have seen multiple first time applicants fail to format their requests correctly on certain smaller wikis. So I can't hold that against you entirely. But for now I don't think you are ready for rollback rights just yet. ― <span style="font-family:'Constantia'; font-weight:bold; font-size:108%;"><font color="maroon">C.Syde</font></span> <span style="font-family:'Adobe Garamond Pro'; font-size:108%;">(<font color="black">talk</font> | <font color="black">contribs</font>)</span> 20:49, October 28, 2018 (UTC)

I enjoy assisting wikis, including this one. I was actually undoing edits done by a vandal on a separate wiki just recently, and I thought that rollback would be a good privilege for me to have, especially on this wiki, the one I contribute the most to. On this wiki I have combated a vandal, although I did things which were wrong, I'll admit. However, I do contribute to this wiki a lot, and over the year and a half I've spent here, my knowledge of how to use Wikia/Fandom has grown. I have learnt all of what I believe I require, such as correctly lacing images in infoboxes. I also believe my edits to be of significant quality as well; I have fixed numerous pages, at least one of which I know for a fact wasn't marked as needing cleanup (I lurk around that category lots). Thus, I believe I am fit for Rollback Privileges.

:With only 164 edits at the time of writing and not even having the autopatrolled permission, I unfortunately must oppose your request at this time, as you simply do not have enough experience for the rollback permission. Rollbacks have a much higher standard expected of them than most other editors, and not only is the quality of edits taken into account, but also competence as well. From what I am seeing, you do not need rollback at this time. —<span style="color:#0040FF">k6ka</span> <span title="Canadian!" style="color:red">🍁</span> (<span style="color:#0080FF">Talk</span> · <span style="color:#0B4C5F">Contributions</span>) 14:20, November 27, 2018 (UTC)

::Oppose - I understand that you may have been undoing edits by a vandal on another wiki recently. But what you do on other wikis doesn't generally affect what you do here. And although I must admit, my stance has been affected by user's actions on other wikis in the past, I do generally try to keep that to a minimum. Also while your experience isn't necessarily bad, I would like to see more experience gained before I can support you getting rollback rights. ― <span style="font-family:'Constantia'; font-weight:bold; font-size:108%;"><font color="maroon">C.Syde</font></span> <span style="font-family:'Adobe Garamond Pro'; font-size:108%;">(<font color="black">talk</font> | <font color="black">contribs</font>)</span> 01:16, November 28, 2018 (UTC)

Granting rollback is a position of trust on The Sims Wiki, as while rollback is but a humble tool that basically does what every other editor can do, it is also a powerful tool that can really take a bite out of newbies if used improperly. Though Stella terrano is one of our shier users, their contributions to the wiki are undeniably helpful, and with recent vandalism levels on the rise (Still small potatoes compared to what I have to deal with on the English Wikipedia), Stella terrano has been duly reverting vandalism whenever they see it. While rollback is not a tool that helps with article development, I believe that Stella terrano will find it very useful when they need to revert vandalism. —<span style="color:#0040FF">k6ka</span> <span title="Canadian!" style="color:red">🍁</span> (<span style="color:#0080FF">Talk</span> · <span style="color:#0B4C5F">Contributions</span>) 20:32, February 12, 2017 (UTC)

SimDestroyer is a fairly new and recent face around here, having joined the wiki in June of this year. In the six or so months they've been here, though, they've made over 2,000 edits, show a sense of maturity and trustworthiness, and have spent countless hours helping out with both gnomish and major edits to the wiki's articles. Ok, I have been here for a month already and I have at least 680 edits right now. I know how important it is for my contributions to make this wiki better and I know my understanding for reverting edits. :I'm going to go ahead and support this application. You are a bit on the new side for an editor, but you show good potential, and I'm almost always in support of editors spreading their wings and learning new skills and gaining new experience. You have a history of using the undo tool effectively, and you've shown some history of anti-vandalism action. Ultimately, I think this balances out your lack of experience in other places. -- <span style="color:navy;">LostInRiverview</span> <font color="green">talk</font> · <font color="green">blog</font> · <font color="green">contribs</font> 21:52, May 16, 2018 (UTC)

::Medium support - While I agree that you are still a bit on the new side for an editor, I must admit that you do show good potential which can only be a plus. Also you have shown some anti-vandalism work which is beneficial as well. ― <span style="font-family:'Constantia'; font-weight:bold; font-size:108%;"><font color="maroon">C.Syde</font></span> <span style="font-family:'Adobe Garamond Pro'; font-size:108%;">(<font color="black">talk</font> | <font color="black">contribs</font>)</span> 12:08, May 20, 2018 (UTC)

Rollback requests on The Sims Wiki are, in my opinion at least, a little more formal than the system on Wikipedia given how we have significantly fewer editors here (and significantly fewer incidents of vandalism) than on the English Wikipedia. That being said, rollback is not like granting adminship and it can easily be revoked in the event of abuse, as rollbackers cannot hide their edits from recent changes. Needless to say, rollback can still affect newer users if the tool is used inappropriately against them; as such, I generally expect to see some level of trust in users before I support a nomination for rollback here on The Sims Wiki. Personally, I prefer waiting at least six months for that to happen.

IsaiahScribblenauts is still very new here (only recently passed their two-month mark), and at least by my standards, still have somewhat of a novice understanding of wiki editing. That being said, they have picked up the ropes fairly quickly, and while they are not top-notch they have shown a willingness to learn and have gotten along well with other editors. They have helped with vandal fighting on the wiki and have done some work with content creation, particularly in our TS4 articles which are lacking and in need of attention. They aren't ready for content moderator—not by a long shot—but they show potential, and even if they do not get content moderatorship or adminship, they are still the type of editor that the community values—and so desperately needs.

With that being said, I am in support of this request. The user has demonstrated sufficient trust for me to believe that they will not intentionally abuse the rollback tool, and I am confident that they will be open to suggestions and advice should they ever make a mistake. —<span style="color:#0040FF">k6ka</span> <span title="Canadian!" style="color:red">🍁</span> (<span style="color:#0080FF">Talk</span> · <span style="color:#0B4C5F">Contributions</span>) 01:59, May 28, 2018 (UTC)

I would like to nominate AireDaleDogz for rollback rights. They have been on the wiki for a few years now and have a long history of good edits. Most relevant to this discussion, however, is their strong record of anti-vandalism action. I think this user would benefit greatly by having access to the rollback tool, as would The Sims Wiki as a whole. -- <span style="color:navy;">LostInRiverview</span> <font color="green">talk</font> · <font color="green">blog</font> · <font color="green">contribs</font> 18:08, July 10, 2018 (UTC)

There is no maximum number of rollback users, so if you would like access to the rollback tool and are qualified, please do not hesitate to make a request.

Qualifications[]

There are no firm qualifications for receiving access to the rollback tool. However, the rollback tool is not intended to be given to new editors who are just starting out; only established users with a decent history of good-quality edits are eligible. Users are recommended to have at least 200 edits to The Sims Wiki, with a majority of those edits being in the main namespace of the wiki. Editors with a current or recent history of edit warring are disqualified, as are any users who previously requested the rollback tool but were denied and given a limit on re-requesting that hasn't expired yet.

Procedure for requests[]

  • A user meeting the qualifications can request the rollback tool below. Users should explain why they want rollback and/or should point to past anti-vandalism work they've done in justifying why they should receive the tool.
  • Once a request is submitted, a seven-day waiting period begins. Discussion is not strictly necessary, but any user can weigh in on the request, including by asking direct questions to the requesting user.
    • Users who are obviously unqualified may be declined even before the end of the seven-day period, and are not allowed to re-apply for at least one week.
  • At the end of the waiting period, an active administrator will decide whether the applicant is qualified and whether the request is acceptable. The administrator that responds to the request should take any user input in the selection into account when deciding whether or not to grant access to the rollback tool. However, this decision is not strictly based on community consensus; the administrator may choose not to give rollback even if there is consensus in favor of approving the request.
    • If an administrator chooses to approve the request for rollback, that administrator will go to Special:UserRights and enable the 'rollback' flag for the requesting user. The administrator should post on the requesting user's talk page notifying them that their request has been approved and explain the rollback tool (including explaining the rules for when rollback can and cannot be used)
    • If an administrator chooses to decline the request, they should explain why on the request page as well as on the requesting user's talk page.

Limit on re-requesting[]

When a rollback request is declined, the applicant is not allowed to submit a new request for one week. A user whose request has been declined should consider the reasons why and address/correct any points or criticisms before considering re-application for rollback. Users who re-request despite repeated denials, and who don't make a good faith effort to address or correct the reason(s) for their denials, may be restricted from re-requesting by consensus of the administrative team.

Removal of the rollback tool[]

There are circumstances where a user may have their access to the rollback tool involuntarily removed. These circumstances include (but aren't limited to) situations where:

  • A user repeatedly misuses the rollback tool by accident, even after explanations and/or warnings from the administrative team;
  • They deliberately misuse the rollback tool in an edit war or editing dispute (severe misuse on just one occasion may warrant removal of the tool);
  • They do something to significantly undermine public trust in their abilities or aptitude as an editor, even if that action is not related to a misuse of the rollback tool;
  • A community discussion on the discussions forum leads to a consensus that the tool should be removed.

A user who has been stripped of the rollback tool may be restricted from re-requesting the tool by a consensus of the administrative team or by community consensus.

A user who has access to rollback may choose to voluntarily give up that access; see the retirement policy for more information on user rights retirement.

Notes[]

The current rollback request procedures and qualifications were implemented on January 30, 2024, as a result of this forum thread. The previous procedures were implemented on January 2, 2016, as a result of another community discussion.
