Chat moderator	Open to requests.

Chat moderator requests are almost always open on The Sims Wiki.

Minimum requirements

If you feel that you are a valuable member of Chat and you think you would benefit from the Chat moderator rights, this is where to apply. The minimum requirements are:

• Be an active user of Chat (on chat every day, or nearly every day) for at least four months.
• Having a fair knowledge on how Chat works and the rules of using Chat.
• A good record of civil behavior - if you have been told off for messing around or are constantly bringing up heart-touching (i.e sensitive topics) or inappropriate topics, then you are not ready for this.
• Having good English skills is a necessity as English is the only language allowed on main Chat.

Application procedure

Stage 1: Nominating

• Users may nominate themselves or other users for Chat moderator rights.
• Multiple requests at one time are allowed.
• Moderator candidates that are not given any additional privileges are ineligible to be nominated or to nominate themselves for at least a month.

Stage 2: Discussion

• A period of discussion shall last at least three days.

• If a request will clearly not achieve a favorable consensus (i.e. there is absolutely no support for promotion) - in other words, the request doesn't have a "snowball's chance" of passage - it may be canceled early.

• After three days of discussion, it shall be determined whether a consensus is in favor of a user being given Chat Moderator rights. If there is a consensus, rights will be awarded. If there is clearly no consensus for a user to be promoted, the discussion is ended and rights will not be awarded.
• In cases where consensus is not clear after three days, discussion will continue for three additional days.

• If, after this time, there is no clear consensus either in favor or not in favor of promotion, the request proceeds to Stage 3.

Stage 3: Voting

• A period of voting shall last five days.
• Votes for a nominee may only be support or oppose votes. Any neutral votes cast will not be included in an official vote count.
• A 2/3rds majority vote (of counted votes only) is required for a promotion nomination to pass this stage.

Note

Both administrators and bureaucrats may moderate discussions and votes, determine consensus, and award rights to successful nominees. Administrators and bureaucrats may participate in discussions and vote, but must be impartial when moderating, determining consensus, and awarding rights.

What you will do as a Chat moderator

• Protect Chat from disruptive behavior by warning, kicking and/or banning disruptive individuals.
• Maintain an active presence in Chat so that it's more easily moderated; it's not worth having these rights if you're hardly ever in Chat.

What you may not do as a Chat moderator

• Use your operator privileges to take advantage of users or to control the Chat.
• Ignore the needs and wants of Chat users.
• Abuse rights by using them incorrectly, for personal reasons or against non-disruptive users.

Discussion

Moderate to weak oppose While you are definitely active on chat, I'm not really sure if you're ready to be a chat moderator. My biggest concern is that you tend to bring up a lot of mundane topics during periods of silence (or even in the middle of conversations that are irrelevant to the discussion), which seems to be an attempt to fill in "dead air." I'm not saying "Don't talk at all," but it makes me uncomfortable when new users join the chat and see your messages via chat scrollback. (I think I've talked to you about this too over PM, if my memory hasn't failed me yet) Also, with regards to this and this, I don't think you know how to resolve conflicts and disputes, and as a chat moderator, you need to know how to handle these things effectively (a ban or kick is not always the solution!) --I am k6ka ^{Talk to me!} _{See what I have done} 23:18, June 24, 2015 (UTC)

Weak oppose - You are a regular user on Chat, which is highly appreciated, but you have some minor behavioural issues that I would like you to work out. Oppose - I personally don't think you are ready to become a chat moderator. For one thing you've only been here for a month. I've seen no evidence that you know how to handle trolls etc. I'm also unconvinced that you'd know when to kick or ban disruptive users in chat. Also from what I've seen, you have a lot to learn before you are ready to obtain such rights. Comment - C.Syde... Because I'm fairly new to this Wiki means that I don't know how to handle trolls? I'm sorry but that's not fair... And I really know how to handle trolls. I'm not a little kid anymore C.Syde! And I know exactly when to kick/ban disruptive users. I have experience with being a chat-mod (not on wikia). But that is another story.... Comment - @Sims2Player... I'm not saying that you do not have the experience. And I'm not saying that your behaviour is bad. I'm just unconvinced at the present time that your behaviour can currently reflect a responsible chat moderator. I know that your not a kid anymore. But even some grownups that are considerably older than we are might not be able to pass off as a chat moderator. That is the cold hard truth. You can really say what you want here, but we determine chat mods based on what we see, not what you claim. Right now I am not seeing the maturity a chat moderator needs to demonstrate here on The Sims Wiki. In fact, far from it, since yesterday you were repeatedly asking me the same question over and over again every time you kept leaving and rejoining. Becoming a chat moderator is not kindergarten. Moderators need to demonstrate maturity in their actions.
