IRC Channel operator	Open to requests.

IRC Channel operator requests are almost always open on The Sims Wiki.

Minimum requirements

If you feel that you are a valuable member of the IRC channel and you think you would benefit from channel operator flags, this is where to apply. The minimum requirements are:

• An account on irc.freenode.net
• Fair knowledge of operating an IRC channel.
• Being highly active in the channel

• Applying for this should not be the first thing you do after joining IRC for the first time.

• Understandable, (almost 100%) correct English all the time.

• If u talk liek dis, ur not rdy 2 bcome IRC op.

• A record of civil behavior

• If you're constantly being told not to mess around then you're not ready for this.

Stage 1: Nominating

1. Users may nominate themselves for IRC channel operator flags.
2. Multiple requests at one time are allowed.
3. Operator candidates that are not given any additional privileges are ineligible to be nominated or to nominate themselves for at least a month.

Stage 2: Voting

1. Users may support, be neutral toward, or oppose the requst. Users must provide a reason behind their position.
2. Users must be active in the IRC channel in order to vote.
3. Everyone's vote counts as one vote. Admins do not hold extra power.
4. A bureaucrat will then determine whether consensus has been reached. This means that IRC channel operator requests require at least a two-thirds support rate to pass. Strength of argument is more important than the number of votes.
5. Admins and bureaucrats may vote on a request. However, a bureaucrat who votes on a request and later reviews the request must review according to the vote result, not their personal opinion of the nominee.
6. Votes may be closed early if it is obvious that consensus against it will not be reached. (e.g. 6+ support and 0 oppose)

What you will do as an IRC channel operator

• Protect the channel from disruptive behavior by warning, quieting, kicking and/or banning disruptive individuals.

What you may not do as an IRC channel operator

• Use your operator privileges to take advantage of users or to control the channel.
• Ignore the needs and wants of IRC users.
• Abuse rights by using them incorrectly, for personal reasons or against non-disruptive users.
• Use the privileges unneccesarily. For example giving out voice to users when the channel isn't muted.

I'd like to apply for IRC Channel operator rights. Sometimes I see that the channel is pretty much unattended (since the admin team isn't online or is doing other stuff at that time and thus, not paying attention to what's going on) and I believe that another person who is usually on or the most part of the day could be another hand to help.

I used to be an administrator here on the Wiki, so I know how to work with the tools provided. I try to remain civil at all times, although I get sidetracked from that on occasion.

I am now leaving this request open for discussion and also looking forward to seeing what comes from here.

Support - While he can get a little bit carried away at times, DanPin is almost unarguably the most active user in the channel and back when he was an admin, his possession of operator flags did prove beneficial and I'm confident giving him another shot at this will be equally as beneficial. The aforementioned issue of him getting carried away is only a little thing and hasn't hampered his attitude towards other users and his ability to maintain the channel. I might not be the most active guy on the wiki, but I'm around on the IRC channel pretty much whenever I am on the computer (yeah, pretty much). I used to be a channel op back in 2011 however it was deemed unnecessary at some point. I'm in the UTC+2 timezone, meaning I'm usually around before UTC people start coming online and after Wogan goes to bed (:3) so I guess having me as op would make sure some additional hours of a day would be covered.

I'm pretty active in #wikia-sims and I'm also an op elsewhere, so I know how the tools work. I try to stay calm and civil and I think I do a pretty good job at it.

Oppose - He's shown reasonably bad behaviour from time to time, notably his tendency to feed the trolls by aggressively attacking them and at times his attitude towards some users can leave something to be desired. In fact, the other day I had to tell him not to PM a sarcastic message aimed to infuriate a certain troll and not to mock a reasonable request made by a channel operator. This is not how a channel operator should conduct themselves. Maybe I'll support next time around when the nominee has shown that he can remain level headed in these situations. When a troll enters the channel, basically everyone starts feeding them until a channel op arrives. Hell, I've even seen channel ops doing it. As for the other cases, I'd like to see some IRC logs (just tell me the day, I have logs) as I really can't place these aforementioned situations. The PM thing was nothing but a joke, I'm not sure why anyone took that as serious. Look, I know you and I disagree a lot but I really can't accept all your claims as true unless you provide me something solid to go on. 1358 ^(Talk) 22:36, January 20, 2013 (UTC)
