New features[]
World and neighborhoods[]
The pack includes a new world named Glimmerbrook, a residential mountainous forest world. It also features a portal into a separate floating fantasy-like neighborhood, The Magic Realm, where magic NPCs live. In this world, you can go to shops to buy brooms, magic books, and new wands.

Spellcasters[]
A new life state—spellcaster—is introduced. They are largely similar to witches from previous games, in that they can learn magic spells and brew potions. Similar to vampires or werewolves in The Sims 4, spellcasters have a variety of skills and abilities they can unlock as they progress through a rank system. They are also the first occult in The Sims 4 to not have a secondary form. If the Paranormal Stuff pack is installed, spellcasters will gain the medium skill faster than other sims.

Familiars[]
Spellcasters can bind themselves an unlimited number of familiars, such as dragons, phoenixes or with Cats & Dogs, dogs and cats. However only one familar can be summoned at a time.

Trivia[]
- This is the first purely magic-focused pack since The Sims: Makin' Magic, as magic was a secondary theme in The Sims 2: Apartment Life and The Sims 3: Supernatural.
- The three-week gap between the pack's announcement (August 20, 2019) and its release (September 10, 2019) is the longest wait-time for a game pack to date.
- Realm of Magic is the final content-pack for The Sims 4 to support 32-bit (PC) and non-metal (Mac) systems. The next pack for the game (Discover University) ceases support for them.
- This is the only occult-themed game pack for The Sims 4 that does not share the same name as its occult, like The Sims 4: Vampires or The Sims 4: Werewolves.
- The song featured in the official trailer is "Blood In The Cut" by K.Flay.
