The Sims 4: High School Years is the twelfth expansion pack for The Sims 4. It was announced on June 30, 2022 and was released to all platforms on July 28, 2022.

The expansion is focused on high school life, and adds the ability to control teens while they are at school. It includes the world of Copperdale, a once booming mining town, and the only town players are able to place active high school lots in. The pack reintroduces features from The Sims 3: Generations, such as prom and pranks. It also has a focus on teenage fashion, similar to The Sims 2: Teen Style Stuff.

Experience High School

Experience all the ups and downs of high school. Attend classes in person, get to know your teachers, hang out in the cafeteria and even decorate your locker. Your most treasured moments might happen while loitering around with your friends after school.

Iconic Teen Moments

Dance the night away at prom and celebrate your graduation ceremony (if you keep up with your schoolwork). In addition to those big moments, Sims can make lifelong friends, participate in after-school activities and teams and experience the rollercoaster ride of puberty.

Shake Things Up

High school is a time of self-discovery. Find the confidence to ask out your crush or the guts to skip class (don’t let the principal catch you). Teen Sims will explore their own likes and dislikes and have new opportunities to cause mischief. Pranks and sneaking out after dark can have consequences, so be careful you don’t get caught.

Explore Your Style

Make your bedroom your own, plan outfits with clothes designed by Depop sellers and become a Simfluencer. Teen Sims can earn money by selling outfits and hyping up looks they design on Trendi right from their bedrooms, which are now more interactive than ever. Use a laptop, read a book in bed or even have a pillow fight!

New Features

World and Neighborhoods

Main article: Copperdale

The Sims 4: High School Years includes Copperdale, a brand new world that was formerly a mining town. It features 12 lots spread across three neighborhoods: Rockridge Heights, Prescott Square, and Plumbite Cove. The high school and its auditorium can be found in this world, as well as the new ThrifTea shop. The Plumbite Pier is situated on Lake LaSuli and features various new carnival activities for teens and other Sims, and is often the prom afterparty location.

High School Life

High School Years introduces the ability to follow teen Sims to school and actively control them throughout the school day. Players can direct their teen to complete certain tasks and socialize with peers and teachers. Some features from The Sims 3: Generations make a comeback, such as pranks and prom. Teen Sims are expected to make it to class on time and study for their weekly exams. There are sometimes events during the school day such as fire drills and career day. There are four new afterschool activities for teens to participate in.

Teens who skip class or misbehave at school may be given detention. There is also a "three strikes" system in place, which can lead to a teen Sim being expelled from school. On the contrary, a teen with excellent school performance may be given the option to graduate high school early; these Sims will not be able to participate in a formal graduation ceremony, but they can apply to and attend university if The Sims 4: Discover University is also installed.

Discover University

• Sims who graduated early can apply, enroll and attend in university as a teen. Whereas Sims who dropped out or are expelled from high school cannot qualify for any of the degrees upon acceptance unless they obtain a high school diploma online.

Vampires

• Vampire Sims can use their abilities to perform pranks. However, if they drink plasma from teachers or students without permission, they will be expelled. They will also become playful when telling (or being told) urban myths, because mortals don't know what it is.

Get Famous

• Celebrity Sims who attend high school will be recognized by normal students and teachers. They even get asked for autographs. Their reputation will be increased if they perform better academically and attend proms. However, if they get expelled, they will get publicly disgraced. Obsessed fans & Paparazzi will stalk Celebrity Sims in class. Teachers and the headmaster/headmistress will kick them out.

Trivia

• mxmtoon - "sad disco" in Simlish is featured in the official reveal trailer video. The song appears on the alternative radio station in the game.
• This pack allows Sims to be controlled while inside the school building. In all previous games, schools were either off-screen occurrences or a rabbit hole.
• A few of the clothing items in this pack were designed by sellers from the fashion marketplace app Depop.
• This pack is the only game for The Sims 4 to feature a carpool, that being the school bus which is parked outside the high school. However, it is simply a decoration and Sims cannot drive or travel inside it.
