The Sims 3 Pets Create a Pet Demo[2] is a free-of-charge demo for The Sims 3: Pets (which was released a month after demo), which only gives access to the Create a Pet mode. It listed the ability to upload created pets to The Sims 3 Exchange as long as just the Sims 3 base game was registered on the player's EA account. Locally saved pets could also be played with if The Sims 3: Pets was then installed at a later time.
The demo was available on Origin Store, and on a rare DVD. The Origin listing has since been delisted, and it is unknown as of November 23, 2025 if it is still possible to get the demo in a functional state. There are however lots of footage of the entire demo on YouTube.
The demo's official FAQ page also mentions a competition of some sort[2] that was held in late 2011, the details of which are unclear.

Differences from the expansion pack[]
- A semi-transparent The Sims 3: Pets logo is in the lower right in Create a Pet at all times (though it is not there on the loading screens).
- The options to create a regular Sim and to "Play with Genetics" are greyed out.
- Choosing to quit the game will show an additional prompt to either "Learn More" (about the full version of The Sims 3: Pets) or "Just Quit".
- Its presumed desktop icon has a red leash in it, which is not in the full version's desktop icon.
Glitches[]
- The demo shares the same folder as the base game, so having both the base game and the demo installed at the same time was known to create various problems, for instance with textures and image assets in the demo.[4]
