The Sims 3: Pets for Nintendo 3DS is a standalone game.
The game sees a return of pets from The Sims 2: Pets. However, the Nintendo 3DS version only features cats and dogs,[2] and does not have the horses and unicorns that are only in the PC version of The Sims 3: Pets.
Features[]
- Unlike The Sims 2 Pets for consoles, the game doesn't just focus on pets, which means it has all the features of The Sims 3.
- You can play as your own pet that you created.
- Pets have their own traits, and they can have their own desires.
- Pets can learn skills.[confirmation needed]
- Cats and dogs can learn to hunt, dogs can learn to locate collectibles and fetch your Sims a date.[confirmation needed]
- There are also new pet motives, Destruction for Dogs and Scratch for Cats.[3]
- The game takes place in the village of Port Abel.
- The game supports autostereoscopic 3D and StreetPass, and uses the system's Play Coins functionality to use the in-game karma functions.
- A clothing shop rabbit hole on Bayfront Road, the only of its kind among rabbit holes in the Sims franchise as of June 2025.
Comparison with The Sims 3: Pets (console)[]
- SimBots are absent.
- There are no known cheat codes.
- There are no system-wide achievements.
Comparison with The Sims 3 (Nintendo 3DS)[]
- The control scheme has been dramatically replaced in its entirety compared to The Sims 3 (Nintendo 3DS), and relies less on touch controls. The gameplay focus is more on the top screen. D-pad ←/→ controls the time speed, A selects something, B→X cancels an action, L/R rotates, Y+X zooms out/in, and ↓ focuses on the Sim.
- There are now 4 community lots instead of 2.
- There are now 3 savefile slots instead of 1.
Pet Trait[]
There are a total of thirty[confirmation needed] possible pet traits. In Create-A-Pet, each pet can be given up to two traits. Pets can learn up to eleven traits,[confirmation needed] and they can also "un-learn" them. A few traits cannot be learned. Some traits are unique to one species, and some can be for any species. There are also some traits that will conflict with one another, such as Proud and Playful.
Glitches[]
- If you delete a fence and you undo the action, the game doesn't reset the money to what it was before the action was made, essentially becoming an infinite money glitch.
- The savefile date cannot correctly handle system date years from 2048 onwards, and will instead show the year as being 64 years before the system date. For instance, January 1st, 2050 is shown as January 1st, 1986. The savefiles remain fully playable, and no error messages occur if a savefile is being saved to an earlier system time than before.
