The Sims 3: Pets is the 5th expansion pack for The Sims 3 and a standalone game for consoles.[2] A trailer was leaked at the same time as the The Sims 3: Generations one. An official trailer has since been released, announcing the game.

The game sees a return of pets from The Sims 2. Cats and dogs will be returning, along with a brand new animal: Horses. However, the console version will only feature cats and dogs.[3]

It was also confirmed that there will be snakes, turtles, birds and lizards in the PC version.

This is the first time that games or expansions in two different "generations" of The Sims series will have the same title.

Features

  • More pets mean more fun! Create a wide variety of unique dogs, cats, and—for the first time ever—horses! Think your Sim has what it takes to tame a wild horse?
  • Build a collection of Lizards, Turtles, Snakes and Birds![4]
  • There will also be NPC animals like skunks, deer, and raccoons (only as seen in the leaked Unleashed trailer but not the reveal trailer).
  • Be the Pet. Wield control of your Sim’s pet to chase, dig, tackle and more. Be the perfect companion or wreak havoc on your Sims!
  • Pets have their own traits! From intelligent, brave, and friendly to hydrophobic, skittish, and clueless to gentle, fast, and agile, determine the personality of your Sims’ pets.
  • Even your pets can have lifetime rewards!
  • Life stages for pets are: Puppy, Kitten, or Foal, Adult, And Elder [5]
  • Pets can learn skills. Cats and dogs can learn to hunt, dogs can learn to locate collectibles and fetch your Sims a date, and horses can learn racing and jumping.[citation needed]
  • Sims can take their pets outside! Take Spike to the park, bring Whiskers to the library, or ride Star to the new Equestrian Center.
  • The trailer shows dogs being able to scare away burglars.
  • Exclusive Limited Edition content! Only in The Sims 3 Pets Limited Edition for PC/Mac will you receive a pet store filled with one-of-a-kind objects.[6]
  • Like in The Sims 2: Pets, dogs and cats are able to get jobs such as a police dog or a spectral inspector for cats, pet jobs are exclusive to the PS3 and 360.
  • You can adopt a horse and can be transported around town on the horse.
  • You can train a horse to be a race horse.
  • Only for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, players will be able to obtain new breeds such as a dog tiger retriever, a dog panda chow, a cat skunk birman as well as other additional pets.
  • You not only get to choose the dominant pattern but you also get to pick an accessory pattern and both can be colored in whatever way you want. In horses, the mane and tail color are independent of the main color of the horse.[citation needed]
  • There will also be new pet motives, Destruction for Dogs and Scratch for Cats. [2]
  • In The Sims 3: Pets, players can add colorful markings on their fur and slide them around wherever they want on their Sims' pets bodies! Markings are also in layers and can be placed in any order. [9]
  • The karma powers from The Sims 3 on console will return in the console version of Pets, as demonstrated in the E3 demo.[10]
  • Only animals have special Limited version with exclusive content. [11] [12]
  • More than 100 breeds of dogs and cats. You may have a poodle with short hair, or you may also have a Poodle with Dalmatian spots. [13] [14]
  • You can control the animals and they can have their own desires. [15] [16]
  • You can assign features to pets and learn new skills, Your Sims are also pets and can help your Sim.
  • Pets can meet, fall in love and reproduce. Also, they can try to have puppies, kittens, or foals, and will also have family trees. [17] [18]
  • Pets have inherited genetics. [19] [20]
  • When you create a Sims pet, cat, or horse, there will be a small dog, cat, or horse that you can make smaller animals with and they can breed smaller animals. [21] [22]
  • There will be a new town for the Pets expansion and a different town for Console.[23] [24] [25]
  • According to SimGuruGraham, the town used in the announcement trailer is a modified version of Riverview. [26]
  • The New Town in the PC Version of Pets is "a quiet country-side town with meadows and woods to explore". [27]

Pet Traits

  • Loyal: Loyal pets always have got their owner's back, whether in a fight or in trouble.
  • Adventurous: Adventurous pets explore from the garbage can to the dark graveyard; these pets are never scared.
  • Playful: Playful pets enjoy having fun with other animals and Sims. They want to run around, play fetch or chase a laser pointer all day long!
  • Aggressive: Aggressive pets love to show how tough they are by fighting with other pets and chasing Sims. It's best not to get between an Aggressive Pet and their food!
  • Patient: Patient pets wait for things longer than other pets such as food, toys & baths. Their urgencies also fall slower.
  • Piggy: Piggy pets are pets who are messy. This is like the sloppy Sim which means they don't mind their own filth.
  • Skittish: Skittish pets are lively, unpredictable, and shy.
  • Lazy: Lazy pets are like Couch Potato Sims which means they are happy with just lying around instead of exercising.
  • Destructive: Destructive pets love to mess up things like scratching and tearing couches.
  • Proud: Proud pets are pets who are very happy about themselves.
  • Intelligent: Intelligent pets are smarter then your average Sim pets. This trait will benefit them at their job. They will be easier to teach tricks too.
  • Friendly: Friendly pets love to meet new animals around town in your neighborhood or on community lots like the park. They will also be willing to meet other sims too.
  • Brave: Brave pets are pets who will stick up for your Sim in fights or scare away burglars without being frightened. This is similar to brave Sims.
  • Hydrophobic: Hydrophobic pets are like hydrophobic Sims. They don't like to swim.
  • Clueless: Clueless pets are pets who don't always know what's going on. They will probably have a harder time learning tricks too.
  • Gentle: Gentle pets are the opposite of aggressive pets. They won't be so tough and rough and won't fight with other pets or chase Sims. They won't mind when a Sim is around their food.
  • Fast: Fast pets are faster than your average pet. They will be able to move and run faster.
  • Agile: Agile pets are well-coordinated and can react quickly.
  • Independent: Independent pets love to be alone but they still do need to socialize from time to time.
  • Good: Good pets do what they are told. They also play with their owners.
  • Evil: Evil pets don't do what they are told. They also rip up the furniture.
  • Fun: Fun pets are the pets that other pets or Sims would like to be around them more.
  • Stupid: Stupid pets don't catch on to tricks fast enough like intelligent pets. They would do more stupid things than other animals.
  • Likes To Swim: These pets will have more fun swimming and get a better moodlet.
  • Vocal: These pets will be great at music like virtuoso Sims.
  • Naive: Naive pets are destructive but put up a good fight against burglars.
  • Hyper: These pets will be more energetic than others.
