Thanatology is a skill introduced in The Sims 4: Life & Death. Leveling up allows Sims to have unique interactions around ghosts, death, and voodoo dolls, as well as improve their death-related careers, Reaper and Undertaker.
Description[]
Dip your toe into the Baleful Bog of knowledge by studying death and loss. Sims enticed by this grim calling will eventually be able to partake in the vocalization of a dying tongue or the creation of a soulful treat meant to boost a Sim's motivations. It's really a skill to die for!

Thanatology skill is available for Sims aged teen and older. Sims who are focused are able to build this skill better. Sims can build this skill in the following ways:
- Looking up historical deaths on a bookshelf.
- Reading theories on a computer.
- Using a voodoo doll.
- Reading skill books.
- Sitting in on a thanatology skill class.[TS4:DU]
- Taking a thanatology elective class while attending university.[TS4:DU]
- Research thanatology using the Electromagnetic Research Archive Machine.[TS4:DU]
Soul soup[]
Description: Riddled with rich flavors of everlasting essences and lifelong energies, this soup is sure to warm the soul.
After thanatology is mastered, Sims can make soul soup, provided that their cooking skill is also at least level 5. A soul is a required ingredient to make soul soup, which can be acquired from the Reaper career from reaping a soul, or by purchasing them from the Mysterious Merchant.
