Teaching moment
TeachingMoment
An example of a teaching moment.

A teaching moment is a gameplay mechanic featured in The Sims 4: Parenthood. They are similar to chance cards and affect the children and teens of the household. Teaching moments can occur when a child or teen asks an adult in the household for advice or when an adult gets a call from the Sim's principal during school hours about what they're doing.

For a teaching moment to pop up, a child or teen can autonomously "Ask for Advice" or have a parent answer a call from the principal from their phone during school hours. Children and teens usually ask for advice autonomously shortly after school, but they will wait until later if they don't get a chance. They can ask any adult in the household regardless of relationship. All moments are exclusive to either children or teens. In the panel that pops up, the player can see what the Sim in question is asking about or what the principal is saying and choose from the choices given. Each choice will affect one character value positively and another one negatively. More options, and the ability to know which character values will be affected, can be unlocked by raising a Sim's parenting skill:

  • At level 1, only one choice is available.
  • At level 2, a second choice becomes available.
  • At level 4, the Sim can see which character values each choice will affect positively.
  • At level 8, a third choice becomes available.
  • At level 9, the Sim can see which character values each choice will affect negatively.
