Tara Kat is a pre-made playable adult Sim from the Kat family, which can be found in the occupied Lots and houses bin after installing The Sims 2: Pets. She has three cats: Mickey, Samantha and Faline. Tara loves cats and believes that everyone should have one. She dreams of running a home business where she can raise and sell kittens. When her household is first played, Tara has just adopted Faline and wonders if her older cats will accept the new kitten as a part of the family. When she is first placed in a neighborhood, Tara is 29 days from becoming an elder.

It is speculated by many fans that Tara is the daughter of Ginia from The Sims: Unleashed, and may have been adopted by Ginia due to the fact that Tara was not included in Unleashed. If The Sims 2 standards are retrofitted to The Sims, Ginia would be too old to become pregnant, but she could have adopted Tara as a child. Tara could also be Ginia's niece or other distant relative, as her bio implies she is biologically related to the Kat family.

Tara uses the 2nd Maxis face template in Create a Sim except for the slightly customized nose and jaw. When she grows into an elder, her face shape will not change, which is unusual given that most other Sims that use the 2nd face template will have slightly different facial features when they become elders (e.g. larger noses, more prominent undernecks, smaller mouths etc.). This is what the broken face templates (minus the customized nose and chin) will look like on Sims once they became elders.

Despite her love of cats, she only has a moderate amount of interest in Animals (four points). Her main interests are Environment, Weather, Culture, Politics, Sports, Entertainment and Work.
