For computers using built-in graphics chipsets under Windows, the game requires at least:

Laptop versions of these chipsets may work, but may run comparatively slower. Standalone cards that are installed in vanilla PCI slots (not PCIe or PCIx or AGP), such as some GeForce FX variants, will perform poorly. Integrated chipsets such as the ATI Xpress and the NVIDIA TurboCache variants may default to settings that are higher than what would be optimal for them. For computers using built-in chipsets, the game requires 2.0Ghz Intel Core Duo, 2.0Ghz AMD Turion 64 X2 TL-62 or equivalent.

Notes[]

  • Despite using the same engine as The Sims 2, The Sims Stories will not work on Windows 98, Windows ME, or Windows 2000.
  • The Sims Medieval will not run on PowerPC (G3, G4, G5) based Mac systems, or the GMA 950 class of integrated video cards.
  • The Sims 3 requires a service pack for Windows XP and Windows Vista. For Windows XP, The Sims 3 requires Service Pack 2 while The Sims 3 only requires Service Pack 1 for Windows Vista.
  • Windows XP is the only OS to officially support all of The Sims games, even though support for Windows XP ended on April 8, 2014 and The Sims 4 was released on September 2, 2014.
    • It should be noted though that from 2017-2023, Windows 7 and higher was required to run The Sims 4: Cats & Dogs and future packs except for The Sims 4: Island Living, which initially supported Windows XP as well as Windows Vista, until support for Windows 7, 8 and 8.1 was dropped, meaning players needed Windows 10 and higher to play The Sims 4.
