In The Sims 3: Store, Sims can purchase the Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells, and in The Sims 3: Supernatural, a spell book is used for the Alchemy Station used for potion purposes.

The Sims: Makin' Magic

The Start Here Spellbook is a spell book acquired through the box given by the Mystery Man, in the spell book Sims can learn the ingredients for many spells.

The Sims 2: Apartment Life

When a Sim becomes a witch or warlock, a Grandiose Grimoirse (also known as spell book) will be added to the Sims inventory. These are instantly claimed to the witch it belongs to, named after them and with the tile of their alignment ("[Sim name] the [allignment tile] Witch/Warlock's Grandiose Grimoire"). Were the spell book to be gone or not, additional one can always be purchased from a high witch by a neutral or compatible-alignment witch. The Palace of Neverending Light and Fortress of Eternal Darkness secret lots features spell books intended to be claimed and used by playable witches.

The player can have a witch abandon or claim another unclaimed spell book. The claimed spell book will be of the same alignment of the witch that possesses the object. If the warlock's or witch's alignment changes, the look of their spell book will change accordingly to the path of magic they're partaking. Sims can only "Examine" a spell book that isn't claimed or their own, in which will cause the laid spell book on the pedestal to attack the snitching Sim that touches it.

With the spell book, witches can learn three different ways of learning spells, "Study the Ways of the Light", "Study the Neutral Magics", and "Study the Path of Darkness". Witches can also check their abilities on their spell book in which a window will pop up showcasing all known spells of good, neutral, and evil alignment as well as the level their skill in magic is. The same window also has a tab that lists the current craftables the witch can make based on their magic skill level.

The Sims 3

In The Sims Store, Sims can purchase the Lady Ravendancer Goth's Book o' Spells, to which Sims can learn 5 Spells: "Summon", "Summon Relation", "Mood Elevatus", "Enchant", and "Unleash Animale". Sims can also review the spells they have learnt in which will increase the odds on succeeding with the spell.

There are 5 spells to choose from, and Teens through Elders can learn from it.

  • Enchant- This spell can be used on Lady Ravendancer's Book o' Spells and other magic objects like Lord Vladimir's Magic Cauldron and Soothsayer's Crystal Ball. It makes those objects look like they are in use.
*Mood Elevatus- This spell can be used in a room with 2 or more people in it to increase their Mood.
*Summon Anamale- This spell can be used in a room with 2 or more people in it to give them the "Cursed" Moodlet which makes Sims involuntarily act in strange ways.
*Summon- This spell summons a random Sim from your town to you.
*Summon Acquainted- This spell summons someone with "friend" or higher relationship to you.

Sims must review the spells in the Book o' Spells for them to work successfully more often. The spells lose power quickly, so Sims should review them every day. If the spell does not work correctly, the Sim or the other Sims in the room may get the "Cursed" Moodlet.

In The Sims 3: Supernatural, the only spell book is the one on the Alchemy station. This is only used for seeing the list of alchemy potions the Sim can make as well as the potion ingredients needed.
