The menu when checking a Sim's social group statuses on their phone.[TS3:UL]

Social groups in The Sims 3: University Life are groups of townies. They consist of Jocks, Nerds, and Rebels. Being in a social group and doing compatible activities increases this social group hidden skill.

Social groups in The Sims 4 are types of social groups across multiple packs. So far packs that include a social group are The Sims 4: Get Together, The Sims 4: Discover University, and The Sims 4: Werewolves.

The Sims 3: University[]

Reaching level 8 in any social group unlocks an additional trait slot for the Sim. A trait related to the social group is proposed to fill this slot, but it may be exchanged for any other eligible trait. The original 5 traits and the university graduation trait cannot be edited during this selection, and the new social group trait must be compatible with those traits. Reaching level 8 in an additional social group permits the trait in the social group trait slot to be changed.

Dedicated lifetime rewards allow a Sim to buy more influence in the groups for 2,000 lifetime happiness per purchase, effectively making a Sim able to buy the extra trait slot for 12,000 lifetime happiness (if they're all purchased for the same group), and the group's career offer for 20,000 lifetime happiness.

Detailed info about a Sim's level in the social groups can be checked by clicking on the Sim's cellphone → "Check Social Groups".
