A slot is a concept where smaller objects can be placed on top of larger objects. Although it is present in most of the Sims franchise, especially for kitchen appliances, the concept was greatly expanded upon in The Sims 3.

Many kitchen appliances are required to stand on counters, for instance microwave ovens and juice makers. Various decoration objects are designed to placed on surfaces as well.
