- Sammi is a clear reference to the character Samantha Stephens from the popular 1960s television series Bewitched, as both she and Samantha are caught in-between their respective husbands and their overbearing mothers. Both Sammi and Samantha's mothers disapprove of their marriages.
- Furthering the connection between the characters, Sammi's first name is a derivative of the name Samantha.
- While the Claremont family serve as a parody of the Stephens family from Bewitched, they are actually the first of two references to the popular sitcom. In The Sims 3: Supernatural, a second pre-made family, the Durwood family of Moonlight Falls, serve as a parody of the central Stephens family from the show. Similarly to Sammi, Serena Durwood serves as as an in-game reference to the Bewitched character Samantha Stephens.
