Sage is a kind of NPC introduced with The Sims 4: Realm of Magic. They are a kind of spellcaster mentor that will help other Sims become spellcasters themselves, alternatively, they also make it possible to turn a spellcaster back into a normal Sim. They are found at HQ in The Magic Realm and are identified with a glowing colourful symbol of the school of magic in place where a plumbob would be.
There are three different sages; the Sage of Mischief, the Sage of Untamed and the Sage of Practical Magic. They each have fully learned the school of magic they are a sage of, as well as all alchemy recipes. They will teach spells of the school of their magic and alchemy recipes for the level of the spellcaster and the Ultimate Spell of their school of magic once a spellcaster is a Virtuoso spellcaster (rank 5).
However, to learn from the sages you will have to be at friend relationship level, and have a spell to learn for your rank. Otherwise, they will exclaim that you need to get to know them better. Note that if you have recently learned a spell from the sage the interaction will be greyed out for a period of time. They can also train spellcasters which is a social that includes the "practice magic" interaction, so you can increase relationship with the sage, earn spellcaster experience and if missing a spell up to your rank learn a spell. Potions are easier to learn from sages as the cooldown between asking somewhat short, making alchemy very easy to learn all the recipes. Also, if your spellcaster destroyed or is missing their Glimmerstone you can ask a sage for another one.
The sages are all are Virtuoso spellcasters and each vary in perks, however, they are all Master Duelist. This makes them somewhat difficult to defeat in dueling. Interestingly enough, they do not have bloodline traits. If one of the sages would be added to a household they will lose their status as sage and will be replaced with a new one.

In the official promotional material for The Sims 4: Realm of Magic different sages can be seen. They were later uploaded to the Gallery by Maxis with a description that reads:
The changing of the guard has happened. The Sages of old have passed on their responsibilities to the next in line. Now the previous Sages can enjoy their retirement and relax knowing the balance of The Magic Realm is in good hands.
