Backstory[]
Greetings from Roaring Heights!
We’ve been on vacation in Roaring Heights for a few days and can’t believe we didn’t come here sooner! The pier quickly became our favorite place to eat, with its romantic sunsets and proximity to the beach. Once the sun is down, the downtown bustles with activity!
Ever since its humble beginnings, the residents of Roaring Heights have embraced the art deco style, which still remains very influential to this city. We adore the pastel and neon lit buildings dotting the beachfront and distinctive style of the extravagant skyscrapers.
We’re loving this place so much that we’ve already begun to look at available real estate. The houses are so unique; we’ve never seen anything like them! It’ll be a blast living here, and we hope you will soon be our neighbor!
-- Contessa & Consort Capp
Cultural references[]
This world seems to take after a theme of 1920s to 1940s-inspired fashion and architecture, and the name of the town is probably a reference to the term "Roaring Twenties", which refers to Western (English speaking and European)- society and culture in the 1920s. The 'heights' is possibly referring to the height of the buildings[2], or Wuthering Heights which is an 1847 novel that concerns two families of the landed gentry. A fair amount of Roaring Heights' citizens are references to famous people from the 1920s to 1940s, either by name, or as a direct spoof.
As a result of the 1920's inspiration, virtually all buildings in Roaring Heights lack modern technology (TVs, computers, stereos, etc), making it the oldest-themed world in The Sims 3, even more so than Dragon Valley (which had some computers). Public speakers can be found at Luminous Bar and Bar-Bell's Gym, which play classical music.
A major exception to the above is the Downtown Museum, whose 2nd floor has functional TVs and regular stereos.
The layout and architecture of the world is based on Miami, New York, and Chicago according to SimGuruTaterTot and SimGuruBrett on The Sims 3 Live Broadcast - Roaring Heights Gameplay video. The city hall is based on Buffalo City Hall and the lighthouse is based on a lighthouse in Kálfshamarsvík, Iceland. Beach Drive in particular bears some semblance to Ocean Drive in Miami and to the street with the same name from Grand Theft Auto: Vice City.

Trivia[]
- The Capp family and Thebe family return, suggesting that Roaring Heights is set before The Sims 2 timeline.
- Roller coasters return with this town, for the first time since The Sims: Makin' Magic. The Sims 3 Store released it on a separate boardwalk venue. Players can use the SimPoints that come with the Gold edition of the world to purchase it.
- Sims can WooHoo in the Fixer-Upper Car. This is the first time since The Sims 2 that Sims can WooHoo in any car.
- Despite being called a city, the world is still considered a suburb in-game, meaning Bridgeport is still the only official city in The Sims 3: Late Night. Concurrently, despite mentions of the silver screen in character descriptions, Roaring Heights does not have a film studio, also a Late Night exclusive. This was likely done to maintain compatibility with the base game. Players who wish to have it be considered a city will need to modify the game files themselves, and players who want a film studio will have to import the Late Night film studio rabbit hole in Edit Town mode.
- Roaring Heights is the first world to have an officially open same-sex couple in the series, specifically Dylan and Audrey Shear. Additionally, Mark Davis-Welles and Rita Davis-Welles, while married as a straight couple, are also in a same-sex relationship with Michael Dandy and Virginia Supine, respectively.
- There's an Easter egg of The Sims 4 on the city hall, where the players can see the renders of Sims from The Sims 4.
- The Riverside Pool might be a reference to the unreleased neighborhood of The Sims 2, Riverside.
- Like with Sunlit Tides, the bios for each Sim in Roaring Heights is the same, except that males and females have different bios for their gender
- Roaring Heights is the only world to feature teen versions of new adult clothes and new toddler clothes, notably a turtleneck suit for males and a nautical dress for females, and an adorable onesy for toddler males and females.
- Roaring Heights is mentioned in the object description of the "Fiery Facade" fireplace from The Sims 4: Vintage Glamour Stuff. The fireplace was a part of the city hall in Roaring Heights and was given as a gift to the mayor, but it disappeared after his untimely death. It is said that the fireplace got to an architectural black market.
- While based on American cities, Roaring Heights looks very similar to the Gold Coast in Queensland, Australia, particularly the suburbs Surfers Paradise, Burleigh Heads and Coolangatta.
