Renovation mode is a type of mode that is found in The Sims 3: Ambitions and The Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator. It is a mixture of build mode and buy mode. It is only available to Sims in the Architectural Designer or Interior Decorator career.
The Sims 3: Ambitions[]
About[]
Renovation mode is only available to Sims in the Architectural Designer career. While in this mode the player can see a list of requirements for the current renovation. If the requirements are not met, the job will count as failed. The player has a budget given at the beginning of the job, although they can overspend on their budget.
While in build/buy mode, there is a home inventory box that contains items from the player's active Sims home inventory. This is where the player will find their Sims creations (paintings, sculptures, inventions). There is a small glitch with the home inventory box in renovation mode. If the player grabs an object from their home inventory box and drop it back in the inventory without placing it, or if the player places the object and then "undo" the placement, their client will receive credit for the full price of that object added to their budget and the Sim will be deducted that amount from his/her own household funds.
Detailed description[]
To activate this mode, players must first get work opportunities based on the story progression feature. For example, if a pair of Sims in the neighborhood have had a baby they may request a nursery, or a Sim with the Bookworm trait may request a reading room. Each job is given a budget, and it will be changed depending on what the player buys and sells (it is possible to sell items the player did not buy). Client Sims will review the work, and based on how good it is, will pay the architect money, with a chance of a bonus.
The Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator[]
- This section is in need of additional information. You can help The Sims Wiki by expanding this section.
In the Sims 4: Dream Home Decorator, Renovation mode can only be accessed once the playable sim has sent the clients away. From here, the sim can take "before photos" of the lot and then start building. In build/buy mode, the lot information tab will tell the player how much of the client's budget was used and the likes and dislikes they discovered from the clients. The funds will also reflect the budget.
When building, depending on the gig there will be building constraints including "no additional floor tiles" which prevents adding on to the existing building or level restrictions like "ground floor only" or "top floor only." The restrictions can be glitched out at times so entering free build mode can resolve the issues, but you will not know if the you went over budget or not.
Selling objects can increase the player's budget, but objects need to be sold individually since the family inventory is not accessible in this mode. Each object you place is tagged with a decor and a color. Following the client's likes and dislikes will resulting in a happier client and a higher reward.
After taking "after photos" and inviting the clients back, the Sims will automatically walk towards the area that was renovated.
