Jack-o'-lanterns are introduced in The Sims: Makin' Magic as buyable decorations. In The Sims 3: Seasons and The Sims 4: Spooky Stuff, pumpkins can be manually carved into jack-o'-lanterns, serving as a light source and/or decorative object typically during the season of fall/autumn. Sims are also able to farm pumpkins in The Sims 4: Cottage Living, which can potentially grow into oversized crops.

A jack-o'-lantern is a floor or table decoration in The Sims: Makin' Magic which also functions as a dim light at nighttime. It can be placed (and moved around) but not deleted unless the "move_objects on" cheat is used. On residential lots, it will eventually rot and have to be thrown away. If more than five of them are placed, there is 20% chance that the Grim Reaper will show up to play a doorbell prank.
The Sims 3: Seasons[]
In The Sims 3, pumpkins are harvested through the Gardening skill, and will be placed into the inventory of the Sim who harvested the crop. Pumpkins can also be bought at the Grocery Store. Sims can make pumpkin pie if they have at least five cooking skill points.
Sims can carve the pumpkin and place a light inside or smash it. However, smashing on lit pumpkins let the Sim on fire. The following pumpkins can be carved:
- Cat
- Evil
- Fail
- Ghost
- Silly
- Traditional
Nice quality pumpkins can be found in the fall festival. Sims can head to the festival lot and harvest the Pumpkin Patch.
The Sims 4: Spooky Stuff[]

In The Sims 4: Spooky Stuff, pumpkins return as one of the new gameplay features of the pack. Sims can interact with the pumpkins just like in The Sims 3, although they can no longer be simply grown and harvested. They are made through a Pumpkin Carving Station.
Pumpkins will spoil after four days. Sims can preserve pumpkins so that they will last indefinitely. If a Sim smashes a pumpkin while the candle is still lit, they may catch on fire.
Pumpkins come in four colors: Orange, Pale Orange, Green, and White. The following pumpkins can be carved (for a listing of require skills see Pumpkin Carving Station):

- Ghost
- Smiling
- Owl
- Scared
- Puking
- Wicked
Sims may occasionally carve a "Dud" pumpkin while using the carving station. All pumpkins cost §25 to carve.

The Sims 4: Cottage Living[]
Pumpkins are one of the new plants Sims can farm in The Sims 4: Cottage Living. With the right amount of water, fertilizer and care, they can grow into an oversized state. Oversized pumpkins can then be entered into an oversized crop competition at the Finchwick Fair in Henford-on-Bagley.
