Proper is a social trait introduced with The Sims 3: Supernatural and The Sims 4: Snowy Escape.

This trait conflicts with the slob and inappropriate traits and is first available as a teen.

Proper etiquette has quite become a thing of the past. Luckily, Proper Sims still remember the old ways and conduct themselves by a code of honor. Or at least a code of nice manners...

Attributes

• A Proper Sim enjoys formal dress periodically.
• A Proper Sim is much more deeply affected by Nicely Decorated surroundings, as well as Dirty Surroundings.
• A Proper Sim has access to a variety of Proper social interactions.
• If two Sims with the proper trait dance together, they will bow/curtsy to each other before they begin dancing.
• When inviting another Sim into their home, a Proper Sim will bow/curtsy to the Sim being invited in.
• The Fight interaction will be replaced with "Give What For".
• A Proper Sim will bow/curtsey when greeting other Sims.
• A Proper Sim can slap others with a glove.

Player notes

• Despite being more deeply affected by their surroundings, proper Sims strangely only gain a +10 mood from the "Beautifully Decorated" moodlet while Sims without this trait gain a +40 from this moodlet. This is likely a mistake by the developers. This can be altered with this mod.
• Sims will not be able to fight a burglar, even if they have the brave trait.
• Proper werewolves will not autonomously rummage through the trash can like other werewolves do. ^{[confirmation needed]}
• Proper Sims always refuse to pose in the nude for another Sim, even if the two have a good relationship.^{[confirmation needed]}

The Sims 4: Snowy Escape

This trait is first available as a child, and it conflicts with the cringe, mean and slob traits.

These Sims tend to disapprove of other Sims' improper behavior such as Mean or Mischievous socials, but find themselves happier in Formal Outfits and have a much easier time with Friendly and Romantic socials.

Attributes

• Dressing in formal outfits will grant proper Sims a happy moodlet.
• Proper Sims will bow when they greet other Sims, and the "Friendly Introduction" option is replaced with "Respectful Introduction". Other proper-related introductions, such as "Enchanting Introduction" (unlocks at Level 8 Charisma skill), "Polite Introduction" (young adults and older with Good Manners trait only), "Tomarani Introduction", are retained.
• More "respectful" romantic interactions also replace the usual ones:
  • Attempt to Swoon
  • Court
  • Propose Scandalous Question
• Proper Sims will refuse to use a hot spring until they have bathed or showered first.
• When a Proper Sim quits their job, they get a +2 Uncomfortable moodlet.
• Proper Sims aren't able to fight. However, if another Sim got into a fight with a Proper Sim, they'll receive a Give a What For confident +2 moodlet upon winning the fight.
• Proper Sims will get a +2 Angry moodlet when witnessing inappropriate behavior from other Sims.
