Pollination Tech#9 Smith (also known as Mister Smith^[TS2PSP] or Pol. Tech 9 Smith^[TS4]) is an alien character in The Sims 2 for PC/Mac and PlayStation Portable, and The Sims 4.

Biography[]

Life leading up to The Sims 2[]

Pollination Tech#9 Smith is a retired Pollination Technician who fathered Glarn Curious' daughters Lola and Chloe through Alien abduction. He retired as an adult on his favorite planet where he married Glarn's other daughter Jenny with whom he has two children: Johnny and Jill. Pollination Tech#9 is a family Sim and had an important part in raising his and Jenny's children. He taught all toddler skills to Johnny and two toddler skills to Jill, while Jenny taught her how to walk. Since he has no memories of having another job after retiring, Pollination Tech#9 was likely a stay-at-home dad. When the Smith family is first played, he is 10 days away from death.

Pollination Tech#9 seems to be one of the very few aliens to have hair. Most of them have similar facial features but are bald. Unlike most aliens who have black hair genetics, he has red hair genetics which can be seen in one of the Smith family storytelling images. His daughter Chloe has red hair like his while her human father Glarn had black hair. If he has more children with Jenny while she's still an adult, there is a 50% chance that they will have red hair.

Pollination Tech#9 has an ongoing feud with General Buzz Grunt who doesn't appear to be very fond of aliens. Even though he won a fight against the General, their relative body skills are inconsistent with that. This can be reconciled if it is assumed that they fought before Buzz maximized the Body skill, and Buzz was unlucky. (According to Buzz's memories, he was at Military level 8, which requires at least 7 Body points, when they had the fight.)

Despite all of this, he and General Buzz have a relatively positive lifetime relationship with one another. Players have used this as a way of dissolving Buzz's prejudice against aliens.

Life leading up to The Sims 2 for PSP[]

Mister Smith now lives in the barracks in Division 47 with his family after General Buzz Grunt convinced them to move there. His facial structure is different from the PC version and he speaks slowly indicating that he is still learning Simlish. Mister Smith appears to be rather gullible as he doesn't seem to notice General Grunt's bad intentions or the fact that his "human disguise" doesn't work.

The player has to help discover Mister Smith's secret after a worried Jenny sends asks them to find out what he has been doing outside during the night. When the player finds him by the wreckage of a flying saucer, he reveals to the player that he was married with a family back on his home planet. He then asks the player to retrieve a photo album of his alien family.

(Intimate): A traditional alien first date includes a trip around the moon and a swift kick in the pants.
(Dark): His favorite thing about living on earth?... Free chlorofluorocarbons!
(Special Delivery): The crashed UFO was here to deliver a personal item to Mister Smith.

Life leading up to The Sims 4[]

A version of the Smith family was uploaded by Maxis to The Sims 4 Gallery in March 2019.^[1] Pol. Tech 9 lives with his wife and two children and, should The Sims 4: Get to Work be installed, he will be an alien; if not, then he'll simply be an alien-looking sim. His appearance remains generally the same.

He is Self-Employed and his job description reads as follows: "A retired Pollination Technician who settled on this planet to pursue a family of his own. Former duties included passing on Alien DNA into the Sim population through abduction and baby implantation."

Trivia[]

A poster from The Sims 2: University called "Surfing the Universe" depicts an alien on a surfboard. According to its description, the alien is Pollination Technician #9's cousin #RT66. Despite this, the family tree does not show #RT66 and he doesn't actually appear in any of the games.
- The description reads: Adventurer #RT66 knew he was not like the other Pollination Technicians and Colony Drones on his planet. Like his cousin Pollination Technician #9 before him, he set off into the cosmos looking for his own adventures, and is immortalized in this (almost) priceless work of art.
- The poster costs §59.
- The name #RT66 might be a reference to Route 66.
Two aliens, XY-XY Smith and XHT-F Smith, from the console version of The Sims 2 share Pollination Technician #9's surname but it is unknown whether they are related in any way.
If he ages back to adult in The Sims 2, he will be voiced by Stephen Kearin.
