The Pleasant family is a family that has appeared in every Sims game since The Sims. Originally consisting of Jeff and Diane alongside their children Daniel and Jennifer, The Sims 2 expands the family to include Daniel's wife Mary-Sue, and their twin daughters Angela and Lilith. Jennifer lives with her new family in the Burb family. Subsequent iterations of the Pleasant family are members already seen in other games.
Biography
The Sims
In The Sims, it is mentioned that Jeff, Diane, and their family are new to the neighborhood. They do not appear in Sunset Valley or Riverview, even though Jeff and Diane would have been teens, or maybe even children, at that time. This is probably because they are new to the neighborhood at the start of The Sims. Seeing as the events of The Sims 3 take place before the events of The Sims, this is possibly the most likely assumption.
The Sims 2
They appear to portray the stereotypical "perfect" upper-middle-class family, as they are Pleasantview's second richest family at the game's start, and seemingly try to behave as if they had no problems. However, it is clear, given their relationships with each other, that the family is dysfunctional. Daniel is having an affair with their maid, but the player can decide what happens with that. Angela, who seems to be the "sweetheart" of the family, wants to have her first kiss with her boyfriend, Dustin Broke. Lilith is something of a rebel and has had a rough childhood. When first played, the player will be made aware of Daniel's infidelity:
"Who says good help is hard to find? Daniel has his eye on the maid and wants a little romance, but will his decision threaten family unity?"
Mary-Sue will either be fired from her job or demoted unless the player decides to ignore the chance card she gets. Either way, she is sent home early, which was likely planned by the game designers so that she can catch Daniel with Kaylynn (if the player chooses to have Kaylynn stay after work).
The family lives at 215 Sim Lane and has a net worth of §104,000, of which §2,250 is in funds. They will be able to pay their bills, but Mary-Sue's Fortune Sim wants for stuff that will be hard to satisfy.
The Pleasants appear in a televised pizza commercial, and seem to appear in one of the programs on the "Sims Broadcasting Network" channel. A Sim who appears to be Lilith slaps one who appears to be Angela, then the Sim who appears to be Lilith complains about hunger.
The Sims 3
The family reappears in Sunlit Tides, one of the worlds available for purchase from The Sims 3 Store. In this prequel to the Pleasantview chronology, Daniel and Mary-Sue are young adult newlyweds who are on their honeymoon on a tropical island.
The Sims 4
In The Sims 4, Daniel, Mary-Sue, Angela, and Lilith can be downloaded from the official Maxis Gallery profile. Older versions of Angela and Lilith are also present in The Sims 4: Discover University as university students living in Britechester.
Onomatology
- Pleasant: "pleasing, agreeable, enjoyable".
- Daniel: From a Hebrew name meaning "Judged by God" or "God is my judge".
- Jennifer: Popular name meaning "fair, white, smooth".
- Mary-Sue: Mary Sue is a term for fictional characters that are portrayed in an overly idealized way and lack noteworthy or realistic flaws. Also, one of the main characters of the film Pleasantville (as opposed to Pleasantview) became named Mary Sue when she entered the titular neighborhood.
- Angela: The name derives from the heavenly angels.
- Lilith: Meaning "of the night". This name was a demon in ancient Assyrian myths. In Jewish tradition, she was Adam's first wife but was replaced by Eve. The offspring of Adam and Lilith were the evil spirits of the world.
- Jeff: Means either "territory peace", "stranger peace", "hostage peace", or "god's peace".
- Diane: Meaning "heavenly, divine".
- Les (Daniel's paternal grandfather): A pun so that the name says "Less Pleasant." The puns are quite hilarious, seeing as Les is a real name, short for Lester or Leslie.
- Kynda (Daniel's paternal grandmother): A pun so that the name says "Kind of Pleasant".
- Danders: "loose scales formed on the skin and shed from the coat of feathers of various animals".
- Marshall: "horse servant".
- Melinda: A combination of "Mel" as in Melanie or Melissa and the popular suffix "inda". Means "honey" in Greek. Also means "sweet", "dark", and "serpent" in other languages. Might mean "horse" in Simlish.
- Marsh: "A tract of low wet land, often treeless, and periodically flooded".
- William (John's maternal grandfather): Popular name meaning "will, desire" and "helmet, protection"
- Anastasia (John's maternal grandmother): Means "resurrection".

Trivia
- A Suzanne Pleasant appears in SimCity 3000 as the representative of the Have a Nice Day Club, which is described as originally being for divorced women. While there is no reason to assume that she necessarily is a missing family member, as people do share surnames without being related (and since it's more than likely that the development team forgot all about her), there is certainly room for players to envision her as the ex-wife of one of the Pleasants.
- An episode of the British sitcom Outnumbered shows two characters playing a fictionalized version of a Sims-like computer game, with characters purportedly based on the show's central family. However, when the computer screen is shown, it is unmistakably the Pleasant Family of The Sims 2 being played, with Lilith as the active character.
