Phones are a common object across all GBA versions of The Sims. This includes: The Sims Bustin' Out, The Urbz: Sims in the City, The Sims 2, and The Sims 2: Pets.
The Sims Bustin' Out (handheld)[]
In the GBA version of The Sims Bustin' Out, there are two kinds of phones, a home phone and a public phone. The public phone costs §1 to use and can be used to call Sims and find out where they currently can be found. Calling a Sim will increase the player's relationship by +1 with each call, even if the Sim that was called doesn't answer. The player's home phone is free and can be used to contact Sims, but it can also be used to contact the following list of services:
- Fireman: Puts out fires.Charges §100 per visit.[confirmation needed]
- Maid: Cleans dirty objects.Charges different amounts per visit depending on the current story level. At Level 1, the cost of a maid is §50. For all future levels, the cost of a maid is §100 multiplied by the current story level (minus one).[confirmation needed][1]
- Repairman: Fixes broken objects. Charges §100 per visit, no matter if there is anything to repair or not.
In the Level 5 Mission, A Monumental Accomplishment, the player's home phone is used to contact a sculptor to build a statue.

NGAGE Version[]
In the NGAGE version of The Sims Bustin' Out, the player obtains a cellphone early on from Uncle Hayseed. The phone can be used to call Sims like any public phone and to play games. Games, such as Snake or Blocks (which is very similar to Breakout). The phone can also be used to access multiplayer features between two copies of the NGAGE version of The Sims Bustin' Out.
Calling a Sim using the Nokia 5110 costs §10, while public phones (still) cost §1 to use and home phones are free.
Annoyingly, the cellphone permanently takes up a spot in the player's inventory and does not appear to be able to be removed. If the player attempts to give their phone to any Sim, except for Uncle Hayseed, they will be met with a unique dialogue, which is:
What, do you think I'm living in the Stone Ages? I've had a Nokia mobile phone for YEARS. Give me a call sometime, OK?
The Urbz: Sims in the City (handheld)[]
There are two kinds of phones in both versions of the handheld versions of The Urbz: Sims in the City, a home phone and a public phone. The public phone costs §1 to use and can only be used to call NPCs to discover where they are. The home phone is free to use and, in addition to ordinary calls, can be used to ask Urbz to come over or to call the following services:
- Fireman: Puts out fires. Charges §100 if there is no fire.
- Maid: Cleans dirty objects. Charges §400 per visit, no matter if there is anything to clean or not.
- Repairman: Fixes broken objects. Charges §100 per visit, no matter if there is anything to repair or not.
Urbz only show up in a player's contacts if the Urb has a relationship of 0 or more with them. Calling an Urb and the Urb responding to the call will gain the player +1 relationship with that Urb.

Note that each one of these pieces of dialogue contains the placeholder, <for a timeframe>. This is a placeholder for a variable that will contain one of these three strings:
Dialogue | Conditions |
---|---|
for quite a while. | An Urb has been or will be in a certain location for 4 or more continuous hours, regardless of how much longer they will be in the location. |
for a few hours. | An Urb will be in a certain location for the rest of the hour plus two more hours. |
for a little while. | An Urb will be in a certain location for the rest of the hour and possibly another hour. |
Visitors[]
The home phone can also be used to invite NPCs over. The chance that any Urb will visit after being invited is: [(Relationship/2)+10]. This means that if an Urb has a relationship with 0 with the player, they will have a 10% chance of coming when invited. And this also means that if an Urb has a maximum relationship with the player, they will only have a 60% chance to visit when invited. Notably, if an Urb is not available on any part of the map, they will not show up when invited no matter what. If an Urb is not available, they won't answer and their head shot will be black.[3]
Whether or not a player receives a housewarming gift from an invited Urb depends on both the price of the furniture the player has and the current Domo-Mojo upgrade, the probability of getting a gift is calculated as [(Sum of furniture's cost)/301 + Upgrade], with the Upgrade being either 0%, 20%[confirmation needed], or 40%. So, if the player has, for example, §5,000 worth of furniture and the highest tier of Domo-Mojo upgrade, the chance of any invited Urb giving them a gift is about 57%.

The Sims 2 (GBA)[]
Unlike previous GBA Sims games, there is no home phone nor public phones. Instead, the player carries a cellphone with them everywhere they go. It is much less functional than the phones in other GBA Sims games, as the cellphone is mostly used for plot points (Sims may call the player at times to progress through episodes).
Unlike the previous games, the cellphone cannot be used to track down Sims. If a Sim is called in an episode and they: 1. are not involved in any of the main plotpoints of the episode, 2. are available somewhere in Strangetown, and 3. would have dialogue when spoken to, said Sim will respond to the phone call with the dialogue that they would have said if the player had talked to them casually.
The phone is free to use, and there are no services available through the phone.
Just like in The Urbz, the player can still get random calls.
List of random calls[]
Type | Caller | Message | Effect |
---|---|---|---|
Lottery Win | Congratulations <player>, you've won §240 in the Lottery! | Player receives §240. | |

Wrong Number[confirmation needed] | Random | Oops, sorry. Wrong number. | No effect. |
The Sims 2: Pets (GBA)[]
In The Sims 2: Pets for GBA, there is no personal cellphone nor any public phones. However, the player still has a home phone that they can use for various services. These services include: calling the fireman, calling a maid, and calling a repairman. Unlike previous GBA games where these are options, the player will never see the maid, repairman, or fireman enter their house. The player needs to leave and come back to their residence to see their objects cleaned or fixed.[4]
When the player returns to their residence, a bill of the following will be left depending on the service called:
- §50 for the handyman + §20 for each object repaired
- §72 for the maid + §4 for each item cleaned
- §100 for the fireman
A player can also order pizza. If a player orders pizza, they will immediately be charged §40 and immediately obtain a plate of food.
There is also a Shop option, where players can buy various home upgrades that provide various benefits to the players residence, such as decreasing bills, adding fire supression, or reducing theft (although upgrades do not seem to prevent theft entirely[5]). Phones can be used to order necessary furniture from a catalog without the player having to visit a store.
The player can also have have short phone calls with Sims in town to refill their social need. Each Sim gives a different, unique dialogue when called.
Trivia[]
- Data referring to all random call types, services, and some other phone functions in The Urbz: Sims in the City are also present in the data for The Sims 2 for GBA, no matter if they were used or not.
- The Sims 2 for GBA also has an unused service unique to it mentioned in the code, which reads, Call Dr. Moore.
References[]
- ↑ This means that the maid charges §100 at Level 2, §200 at Level 3, §300 at Level 4, and §400 at Level 5.
- ↑ Or the Urb being called is Daddy Bigbucks or Ephram Earl. Neither Urb will respond to a player's calls no matter where they are currently.
- ↑ This is different from the same answer with ordinary calls. Daddy Bigbucks, Ephram Earl, and Harlan King are all, technically, available all the time, but they will never respond to phone calls normally.
- ↑ The fireman does not appear to work properly. Leaving and entering the player's house will have the same effect no matter if the firemen were called or not.
- ↑ The upgrades seem to stop burglars, but there are multiple NPCs that can steal from the player.
