The Onomatology (study of names) of the families in Oasis Springs.

Oasis: An isolated area of vegetation in a desert, typically surrounding a spring or similar water source. More generally, a situation or place preserved from surrounding unpleasantness.

Springs: A body of water flowing to a certain direction onto the surface.

Caliente family[]

Caliente Family
  • Caliente: Literally meaning "hot" in Spanish. The name also contains the word "alien", hinting at the family's extraterrestrial connections.
  • Dina: Means "Judged."
  • Nina: "Nina" is a feminine Russian name derived from the original Georgian form Nino. Could also possibly mean "fire" or derive from the Babylonian fertility goddess.
  • Katrina: Comes from the Greek word katharos, which means "pure".
  • Lothario: "A man who obsessively seduces and deceives women" or "a man who behaves selfishly in his intimate relationships with women". Lothario is also a term for any man who behaves in a way that he does and Lotario (without "h") is a first name in Italian (it's also the Italian surname of the family). The Italian name seems fitting, seeing as Don is of Italian descent (although in Italian there are no surnames with "th", a common error committed by Anglophone people). Also, the Lothario theme fits very well.
  • Don: A "Don Juan" is basically a synonym for Lothario. Also, Donald (which Don is a common nickname for) means "ruler of the world."

Landgraab family[]

S4PE Landgraab
  • Landgraab: as in "land grabbing", which is an illegal method for businessmen to earn more land assets by taking land in possession of poor people who cannot afford to make a deed from lawyers.
  • Malcolm: "devotee of (Saint) Columba". Malcolm is a name of Scottish and Gaelic origin. Malcolm is also the name of "Malcolm III of Scotland", who also had a fictional counterpart in Shakespeare's play Macbeth.
  • Geoffrey: means either "territory peace", "stranger peace", "hostage peace" or "god's peace".
  • Nancy: Previously a medieval diminutive of Annis, though since the 18th century it has been a diminutive of Anne. It is now usually regarded as an independent name. During the 20th century it became very popular in the United States thanks to Nancy Reagan, Ronald Reagan's wife.

Zest family[]

S4PE Johnny
  • Zest: Something that causes excitement and interest.
  • Johnny: A diminutive of John, meaning God has favoured/God is merciful.

Roomies household[]

S4PE Roomies
  • Roomies: An informality of the noun roommates.
  • Zoe: Means "life" in Greek.
  • Patel: Means "landowner" in Gujarati.
  • Mitchell: Derived from the given name Michael.
  • Kalani: Means "the heavens" from Hawaiian ka "the" and lani "heaven, sky, royal, majesty".
  • Gavin: Medieval form of the name Gawain, meaning "white hawk".
  • Richards: Derived from the given name Richard.
