The Nintendo DS is a portable console produced by Nintendo between 2004 and 2014, which was able to play a large number of console Sims games.
It had 2 screens (1 of which was a 1-finger touchscreen intended for use with a stylus or nub), stereo speakers, hardware that could render 3D to a fair extent, a built-in microphone, a D-pad, 4 face buttons, and 2 shoulder buttons.
Native Sims games[]
- The Urbz: Sims in the City (handheld)
- The Sims 2 (Nintendo DS)
- The Sims 2: Pets (Nintendo DS)
- The Sims 2: Castaway (Nintendo DS)
- The Sims 2: Apartment Pets
- The Sims 3 (Nintendo DS)
Game Boy Advance compatibility[]
Nintendo DS models produced from 2004 to 2008 (Launch model and DS Lite) were also able to play Game Boy Advance games. The DS lacked support for multi-system multiplayer in Game Boy Advance games, resulting in things like Moon Base in the Game Boy Advance version of The Urbz not being possible to unlock with a DS system.
Nintendo DS games were able to recognize and load data files from inserted Game Boy Advance games. This was utilized by The Sims 2 (Nintendo DS), where the quickest way to unlock Moogoo Monkey for the casino was to have The Sims 2 (GBA) inserted in Slot 2 of a DS or DS Lite while playing The Sims 2 (Nintendo DS).
The Game Boy Advance had noticeably weaker graphics than Nintendo DS games, mostly (but not necessarily) limiting them to isometric and 2D angles.
