The Newbie Family was used in the in-game tutorial with The Sims. The tutorial home, which you were allowed to continue to play after the tutorial was complete, included Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie.

As former residents of Pleasantview, the now-deceased Bob Newbie and Betty Newbie appear in the family tree view of playable sims Brandi Broke and her sons, teen Dustin Broke and toddler Beau Broke. Brandi is their daughter, who married deceased sim Skip Broke.
