Nervous Subject (or Nyon Specter) is a pre-made Sim who appears in Strangetown from The Sims 2, Midnight Hollow from The Sims 3 Store, and in Ravenwood from The Sims 4: Life & Death. He is the son of Olive Specter and the Grim Reaper.

Biography

In the alternate timeline of The Sims 4, Nervous Subject is known under his real name, Nyon Specter. This name change is explained by him not getting experimented on by the Beaker family yet in the alternate timeline. Neither has he been taken away by the Social Worker in the alternate timeline. The developers described him as "pre-Nervous," suggesting it takes place before he met the Beakers and became Nervous Subject.

Nyon is a teenager, 21 days away from becoming a young adult. He lives in Crow's Crossing with his mother, Olive Specter, and her fiancé, Layne Coffin. Nyon's father is the Grim Reaper, as he has the Grimborn inherited trait, a trait automatically assigned to Grim's offspring (along with a scythe-shaped birthmark on their necks). In the initial version of the game, Nyon did not possess such a trait, nor does Grim appear on his family tree. Nevertheless, he was branded with the scythe-shaped birthmark. This was fixed with Patch 173, where Nyon will always have the Grimborn trait in new saves.

In this incarnation, Nyon possesses a darker skin tone to more accurately reflect his mother's genes. He maintains his signature mohawk hairstyle, albeit slightly more textured, while his lips and nose have been made fuller as well.

When spoken to using the Ravenwood Rumors interaction, Nyon will mention once having a close friend named Pascal who suddenly and inexplicably moved away and wiped his Social Bunny profile, which made the young man feel alone. This, in turn, led him to develop a friendship with the local town ghosts Alice and Edith, whom most Sims would be terrified of. He has a good relationship with his mother but a neutral one with his soon-to-be stepfather, with a slight dip into the red. In fact, Nyon mentions he finds Layne weird, calling him a "creep".

If The Sims 4: Growing Together is installed, Nyon has the Idea Person reward trait, indicating he has completed the Creative Genius aspiration as a child. He also has a few Milestones, such as Crumplebottomed!, indicating he once got hit by Agnes Crumplebottom's purse for displaying public affection in her presence. With whom is unknown, however. Allegedly, Nyon lived in a haunted house at a certain point in his life, according to the Survived Seven Nights in a Haunted House Milestone. However, since Haunted Houses are only available with The Sims 4: Paranormal Stuff, and with the lot the Specter family resides on has the "On Hallowed Grounds" Lot Trait, it could mean that the house is meant to be a Haunted House.

Nyon Specter, like other citizens of Ravenwood, has a special interaction called Ravenwood Rumors that reveals tidbits of lore relating to the Sim, their ancestry, or the town's history. Depending on your relationship level with this Sim, different secrets will be revealed.

Biography

A version of Nervous, along with the Beakers and Loki's young clones Atom and Ceres has been made available on The Sims 4 Gallery by Maxis. His appearance remains fairly similar, although his mohawk is now partially green. Despite also being downloadable from the Gallery, Nervous is not related to Olive or Ophelia, since they don't reside in a premade world.

Biography

Nyon Specter returns in Midnight Hollow as a toddler with his mother, Olive Specter, where they make their first chronological appearance. He goes by his more traditional name, Nervous Subject, even though he is still with his mother, and not the Beakers. He has not yet learned any of the toddler skills. In his family biography, he is hinted to be the son of the Grim Reaper, as he is described as "something to remember him by" after his mother's relationship with Grim ended quickly. Grim being his birth father, is confirmed, in Sims 4.

Biography

Nervous is no longer around except as a restless ghost in the main bedroom of Bella Goth's mansion, Espiritu Estate. Emily Emory tells the player that Nervous was always short on money and signed up as a test subject for the Beakers. One day, Loki Beaker kept him in a miserable condition and performed a test on Nervous with one of the machine (presumably the Eclectic and Enigmatic Energizer as shown in the PC version). Unfortunately the machine he used shocked him to death. After Nervous' death, the Beakers even kidnapped a garbage man, Gimi Branko, for their tests. The player has to obtain a charm from his grave and give it to Annie Howell at Nighthowl Saloon. It is indicated that he fell in love with Annie and became her boyfriend, but the player soon discovers that Annie is unaware of Nervous' death, and she admits that he left her. Nevertheless, Annie chooses to keep the charm, hinting that Nervous never stopped loving her. Nervous' ghost will leave Espiritu Estate forever after the player complete this task and then talk to Emily Emory.

Nervous looks quite different in this game, while his outfit is similar, his hair is a bright reddish-yellow and his facial features look more normal and are far less customized, possibly due to the limitations of the PSP hardware.

Despite only being a ghost, the game files reveal that he still has certain interests assigned to him, those being Politics, and, in contrast to his PC version, Crime and Environment.

Biography

Nervous Subject resides in Strangetown as an adult, and lives with the Beaker family. He has a black mohawk hairstyle and wears a gray T-shirt with a skeleton with loose bones on it, blue-gray jeans and sandals. He is 27 days away from being an elder. Nervous is voiced by Stephen Kearin.

At one point during his early childhood, Nervous was taken away from Olive by the social worker because she neglected him and may have been adopted later by Loki and Circe Beaker, Strangetown's "mad scientist" couple; however, they have no relation to him on his family tree or even memories of adopting him. The Beakers would have also been too young to adopt Nervous as he is almost as old as them, unless Loki and Circe had access to the Elixir of Life, which is a possibility considering their reputation as mad-scientists.

According to his memories, Nervous may have "moved in" with the Beakers during his childhood years. It should be noted that while it is assumed that the Grim Reaper is his father, it is not shown through his family tree, which simply shows Olive Specter as his mother. However, the Grim Reaper is the only person Olive Specter has a memory of WooHoo with. Nervous lacks most of his mother's genetics; on closer examination, it is clear he is simply a clone of the Grim Reaper. Additionally, altough Ophelia Nigmos is Nervous' cousin, they do not know one another when Strangetown is first played.

His bio states that Nervous twitches and blinks frequently, probably as a side effect, from the Beakers experiments.

When Nervous's gender preference is displayed using testing cheats, or checked in SimPE, it can be seen that he has a slight distaste for women.

Nervous Subject's aspiration is Family, and when the Beakers' lot is first played, he will often roll wants to flirt or hug, even though he will not like doing these things. He may also want to get married, which may be due to his aspiration being very low. For the first 7 or 8 game hours, the game will continually push "Stuff Face" actions on him while he is home, regardless of how hungry he is. This is a result of a script used for tutorial purposes, so he will see cockroaches (which are scripted as well since the house is fairly clean) and go into aspiration failure, unless the player diverts him away from them in time.

He does not appear to be very popular. His only friend is Pascal Curious, although his lifetime relationship with him is only moderate. He also has a reasonably good relationship with Circe Beaker, but doesn't like Loki very much. Nervous will often wander onto the Curious lot when Pascal is about to give birth to his baby alien.

There is another Nervous hidden in Olive's memories. This is the Nervous to which Olive remembers giving birth.

According to Olive's memories, she was an elder when she had Nervous, which would not have been possible in normal gameplay. Additionally, her memories reveal a discrepancy about the ages of several Strangetown Sims. To illustrate, Lyla Grunt died before Nervous was born. However, this would mean the Grunt siblings should be older than Nervous. Also, Nervous' memories are inconsistent with Loki and Circe's, as he remembers joining their family as a teenager, while the Beakers both remember Nervous joining their family as a child. Hidden Nervous, on the contrary, remembers joining them as an adult, which would be more in line with the information Annie Howell provides the player about Nervous' life before his death in The Sims 2 for PSP.

All three of the Curious brothers will falsely be flagged as family when opening Nervous' corresponding relationship data in SimPE, but they will not perceive each other as such in-game.

Biography

This version of Nervous Subject is hidden in the game files. He is also the Nervous who Olive remembers giving birth to. He is unplayable. It is also unknown if the Grim Reaper is his father because Olive (and all of her family) has dark skin while Nervous' is light and the Grim Reaper has no genetics. He can be found using SimPE and he will have a second thumbnail in the Elder Stage hidden in his character files. This Nervous appears in the storytelling images of the Beaker family. He also has memories, which is unusual for a hidden Sim. Unlike his in-game counterpart, this Nervous remembers joining the Beaker family as an adult.

Oddly he recognizes Willow and Ophelia Nigmos as his aunt and cousin respectively and vice versa but does not 'know' them causing them to appear in the unrelated category in SimPE. The playable Nervous does not have relations to Willow and Ophelia.

The hidden Nervous Subject starred in an old The Sims 2 video Friday the 13th. Nervous is seen suffering throughout the day and ultimately died by satellite at the end of the video. In the said video, he has the teen male voice instead of the adult male voice.

Despite being a hidden Sim, Nervous also has memories that can be found in SimPE.

Trivia

• Prior to the release of The Sims 2, his original name was Nervous Beaker, it was changed at some point during development.
• In Grim's Ghastly Manor, a graveyard from The Sims 3 Store designed to look like the home of the Grim Reaper, a nursery can be seen in the attic. This is possibly in reference to Nervous Subject as he is implied to be the Grim Reaper's son.
• His name in The Sims 4: Life and Death, Nyon, may be a play on "nigh on", meaning near in space, time, or relation. His full name would sound similar to "nigh on specter", aka nearly a specter or close to a specter.
