Nannies are NPCs that take care of your Sims' children while they are at work during the day. Nannies can be hired at any time by phones through Call... > Service > Nanny. Your Sim can choose to hire the nanny on a one-time only basis, or they can have the nanny 'track their schedules' (their work hours), therefore hiring her during the times they are at work.

The nanny will take care of your Sims' children (bathing, feeding, changing, and interacting with toddlers and babies, and interacting with children), as well as tidy up the house by doing things like emptying the potty and making the beds. They can be fired (End Services) at any time, and a new nanny can be hired to replace them.

In The Sims and The Sims 2, nannies are always female elders, and wear a conservative white blouse, gray button-up sweater, long plaid skirt, and bowling shoes. They can have any hairstyle, skin color, and personality. A nanny can be interacted with, and therefore married, asked to move in, or killed off.

In The Sims 3, a nanny is changed to a babysitter. A random teen from the town will come to take care of the baby/toddler when you call for the service. Babysitters can be male or female. They are just usual sims that come to help for a fee, so you can interact with them just like you can with other sims. If a certain babysitter keeps showing up for a few days and has a lot of interaction with the toddler, their friendship will continue when the toddler grows into childhood.

The Nanny Necessity

Should a sim need to go downtown, or to work and is the only adult, elder or teen sim on the lot with the baby/toddler/child, a nanny must be called or the social worker will come for the offspring instead.

A nanny can be called up to come over once or to track the schedule of an adult to see when the child will be left alone. However, this schedule stays the same if the sim is promoted, so you will need to call the nanny again if this is the case.

Generally, once a Sim has re-appeared, the nanny will leave, but sometimes they need a bit of persuasion.

Nanny Problems

Some nannies are more on-task than others, and careless nannies are apt to make meals and possibly start a fire, wet themselves, and neglect the children. There's also nothing to stop them stealing from the Money tree except locking it in a secure room that only a certain sim can enter.

Such feats of child cruelty include repeatedly picking a baby up and putting it back or on the floor or putting a toddler in and out of a high chair, and staring blankly at it. Others include making a TV dinner for a toddler that can't eat it, then walking off to pick the toddler up and down again. Sometimes, they can do something so silly, that the child/children can be taken away.

Nannys can be also quite glitchy. They can become stuck on lots, multiply or simply refuse to leave even if the van shows up. In this case, the simplest solution is moveobjects on. The Nannys are probably so glitchy because they are not meant to be on the active lot, as the parents of the children are visiting a community lot.

In The Sims 3, babysitters were known to take the child when they are going away thus making you lose your child. This has now been fixed[1] with the 1.2.7 patch released in June 2009.

Player Stories

  • I reamde Gloria Newsom and her kids. So, Gloria had to work and her teens were at school so she called the nanny. The nanny took care of the baby and cleaned up. Gloria even gave her a $100 tip!
  • One time I hired a nanny to take care of my toddler and twin boy and girl babies at a CAS family's house. The nanny tried to feed my toddler a TV dinner, put the babies on the floor, wet herself, refused to change their diapers, stole from the money tree, started a fire and was a general nuisance. AND THEN wen my sims came home, the nanny multiplied into TEN NANNIES! The nanny clones clogged the bathrooms, abused the children, would not let the real parents take care of the children and repeatedly stole fromt he money tree. And they still were multiplying! I called them all into a dooreless room and killed them. Now there are twenty three nanny ghosts haunting the lot.
  • In my game, i got a careless nanny who kept taking babies out of their cribs and put them onto the floor, kept putting non-hungry toddlers into high chairs and giving them tv dinners, and ignoring the starving ones, always bothering children, never leaving, and wanting the death of, and seeing the ghost of any children who didnt like her! Sure i could always fire her, but instead, i moved the pool ladder while she was swimming instead of FEEDING MY STARVING TODDLER! Those old ladies are sometimes just as bad as the famous Mrs. Crumplebottom.
  • In my game, a CAS named Marjorie Smith became a serial nanny killer. It all started when she and her husband Morrie were at work, leaving their children Michelle and Michael and their toddler Maddie alone with a nanny. The nanny started a fire and killed herself, so the social worker came and took all the kids away. Marjorie was distraught when she came home from work. Morrie cheated on her with the maid, Kaylynn Langerak {she's such a skank iisn't she?} and Marjorie threw him out. She knew the nannies were the only reason why her life was so horrible. So she called them up and killed them in various ways-starvation, drowning, fire, even flies. So there are lots of angry Nanny ghosts growing weeds in her yard, and poor Marjorie is now a serial killer! Yaaaaay! XD
  • In my game, my sim went to work with a nanny looking over the child. Instead of the Nanny doing ANYTHING she whatches tv. then she made toaster pastries and forgot about the. Then she wet herself, and still didn't care about the toaster pastries and decided to whatch more tv. Then the house started fire. The Kitchen burnt down and when my parent sim got home the Nanny started attacking my sim. And there is still a fire. The parent rushes in there and dies from fire while the nanny walks off not caring. The baby got tooking away! Then she was adopted once again the nanny still doesn't do crap. And she phones her freinds to come over and now there picking up and putting down the baby. whatching tv, bullying the parent the parent passed out! Then they left. The next day the baby is all good until the nanny. This time she comes tired. She didn't sleep instead left my baby alone now she got tooking away..AGAIN. It was terible once the dad got home he commited scuicide litterly he ran out in a thunder storm got killed. I'm still trying to find a good nanny. Also I took pictures and vedio taped it all.
  • In mine she set the house on fire, killed the child (Beau Broke), and then she killed herself. Then my baby got take away.Damn Nanny. Now I put a pool with a diving board ( which she use to get in) and I trap her when she gets out. Then she dies off hunger. TAKE THAT DAMN NANNY!
  • The nanny, Kendal Lawson, came over to take care of Brandi Broke's twin boys, Rodd and Todd, one day and something happend. Dustin and Beau were going to school while Brandi was at work, but the nanny did not come. Dustin stayed home (giving him a D) and the nanny came at last. Instead of taking care of the twins, she kills Gorden King and flees. Sadly, she framed the Strangetown woman, Olive Specter, by sending the grave to Strangetown. Angela Pleasant saw the nanny running and killed her. Thank you Angela!
  • All my nannies have turned out great. I don't understand the complaints. Sometimes they do get annoying when they won't leave and constantly interact with toddlers, though.
  • I once had a nanny (don't remember her name) who kept doing idiotic things like waking up my babies/toddlers while their energy was low just to give them bottles that they didn't even need(hunger bar full); she also has loads of bladder problems and she killed herself, because my cowplant thought it would be a good idea to take out a cake hehe, luckily my teen sim who hated her (and wanted to drink her) had gotten home seconds before she died, now I'd rather have jobless sims than paying nannies, they suck big time.
  • Once, a nanny tried to distroy something while taking care of the twins Lucas and Elizabeth (this was at the Curious Household in Amalia's Story). She burned down the TV (the other TV was stolen when Vidcund met aliens, but I put in bugeral alarms in every room and had Pascal ring the police once I saw her creeping in) and swiped a few dollars on the money tree. Thankfully, Vidcund Curious was pregnant (with daughter Monica) and was at home just in time (after a day at work. once he came home, he was in his green parental garments). He fired the nanny and made sure the twins were okay. "Yay, Happy Ending"!
  • Nannys are pure EVIL! in my game she woke my baby up and put her on the floor then she got lodes of baby bottles and put them all around him (they started to spill into the next room!). Then when my teen sim came home she slapped her and won her in a fight. My teen sim ran away! then she started a fire just as i was coming home! shes then happily watched tv whilst a social worker came to take the baby and toddler away. But the social worker was killed in the fire! (lol) The nanny was also killed but the children still got taken away! Now i have a nanny and social worker haunting my house! ALWAYS REMEMBER TO PUT A FIRE ALARM IN YOUR HOUSE! lol Matta jr 23:59, 5 April 2009 (UTC)
  • I was new to the Sims 2 so when my Sim's family had twins, everything was a DISASTER. My Sims couldn't sleep and were hungry because they spent the majority of the time taking care of the twins. I decided to hire a nanny to so the parents could relax. I knew just one Nanny couldn't do the job, so I hired two. They both spent the majority of the time slacking off and the social worker ended up taking BOTH of the children. Luckily, I didn't save the game... The mother of the family ended up quitting her job to take care of the children and did MUCH BETTER than the two nannies with a few cheats.
  • When Loki and Circe Beaker had their child (Edward), they hired a nanny (dispite Nervous Subject living there) to take care of him. The nanny, instead of taking care of the boy, burned herself axedently and died. Lucky Nervous Subject was there at the time and keep the boy safe.
  • Hermia Capp had a child named Britany (with Puck Summerdream as the father), but had to go to work one day. A nanny was hired to take care of the toddler until Hermia's niece, Jill (Tybalt's daughter) comes home. The nanny was very cruel to the toddler, and if it weren't for Jill, she would have been taken away. Jill was Tybalt's teenaged alien daughter. Juliette died after having a boy named Philip (son of Romeo Monty, who never married Juliette and was killed the same way Juliette was).
  • When my sim had a baby (dyllan) i put a bathtub in the nursery and the nanny took a bath while she was supposed to be watching the kid! later Dyllan was a toddler and had twin baby brothers and the nanny did an excellent job with the twins but completely ignored Dyllan and when i decided enough was enough (don't laugh i only had the game for a week) i called the adoption agency to give up the twins and ended up with a new child showing up just moments before Dyllan became a Child. At least Dyllan got a new friend!
  • a good way to avoid nanny problems is to put an elder into a household when they have a baby to serve as a "grandma" as long as she doesn't have a job she will remain like a 24-7 fully controllable, free nanny that you won't have to get rid of because if she turns out evil she can move out
  • I created a family with no children. Once their first child was born, both parents had to go to work. They had the nanny take care of their daughter, but she started a fire and died. The mother came home just in time to pleade with the Social Worker. The family are safe now.
  • When Mortimer and Bella Goth was away, a nanny took care of Cassandra. When Mortimer and Bella came back, Cassandra had more creativity points than before. Perhaps the nanny taught her piano lessons, or did she force her? --Bayoubash 18:50, 22 June 2009 (UTC)
