NRaas Industries is a website created by Twallan. NRaas Suite maintains many mods for The Sims 3, including MasterController, Overwatch, and StoryProgression, amongst others.

NRaas mods can be installed independently. They may be installed all at once, just one, or any combination in between. Some mods have optional modules, which require the respective mod to be installed. More information about this in the following sections.

As of January 5, 2014, Twallan retired from updating his mods. He released the source for his mods for other modders to release and update to patch 1.66 and above here. Since then, other members of the NRaas community continue to update Twallan's mods.

On September 30, 2018, the NRaas website hosted on Wikispaces was shut down as outlined by the closure of Wikispaces.[1] Prior to this, a new website at https://www.nraas.net/ was being developed, although the old Wikispaces site remained up and continued on as "business as usual" until September 30, when the site was shut down.[2] As of October 1 (presumably 2018), the new website is up, although many links and content from the old site remains missing.

Script mods[]

This section is in need of additional information. You can help The Sims Wiki by expanding this section.

The following are a list of script mods. This means that while it's highly recommended you update them every time you upgrade to a later patch level, it's often not strictly required. However, problems may be encountered if something in the game's code mod depends on has been changed. While older versions of mods are often available for download, they are no longer supported.

Animator[]

Animator is a mod that provides a more robust interface for performing existing game animations.

AntiMagicScroll[]

In The Sims 3, Sims will lose food and alchemy recipes and musical compositions after they read or learn them.

AntiMagicScroll is a mod that changes this behavior, so if a sim learns a recipe or a musical composition, it will still be available for other sims to use.

Careers[]

The Careers mod is a framework for other mods, which provide additional careers for sims. By itself, it's not very useful so installing some extra modules is required for this mod to be useful.

While other mod writers use this framework, Twallan himself has written a few that are available for download at his web site. They are the following:

Assassination[]

The Assassination career is for a sim to have a hitman career. It provides a custom Assassination skill that contains kill statistics, and provides rewards for sims that complete additional levels.

Part-time[]

The part-time careers module contains several additional part-time rabbit-hole careers primarily intended for teen sims, though they could be used by any Sim that is a teenager or a higher life stage. If the teenager holding the job switches over to the equivalent full-time career, they will retain their career level and performance.

A few of them include:

  • Candy Striper - Based out of the hospital rabbit-hole.
  • School Janitor - Based out of the school rabbit-hole.
  • Waiter - Based out of the restaurant rabbit-hole.

To download it, or for more information: Careers - Part-time

Self-Employed[]

Expanding upon the Ambitions EP, the self-employed careers module adds several additional self-employment options.

Consigner[]

The Consigner fixes a few issues with the way cash registers work, as well as expands the number of items that may be sold at the registers.

Cupcake[]

This mod allows for automatic restock of the chiller and rack display's from the Sims 3 store's Deliciously Indulgent Bakery. Users have the choice of picking a menu of recipes to restock with or allow the random system to restock the displays.

DebugEnabler[]

NRaas Debug Enabler top menu NPC Sim

The top menu when clicking on an NPC Sim.

The DebugEnabler is a framework for adding manual debugging interactions for error correction and other various reasons. Most players and users will not need this mod. Caution is recommended; although this mod can be used to fix bugs, it can just as easily cause game breaking glitches if it is used incorrectly.

Though many of its functions are underperforming (especially "Fix Invisible Sims", which fails to fix the dreaded career outfit invisibility glitch), it has at least 2 major advantages that Master Controller don't have:

  • Clicking on bookshelves on community lots, allows setting any bookshelf (which normally only have either novel or skill books) to have novel, skill, fishing, and/or toddler books at the same time.
  • Clicking on virtually any kind of object, allows the option "Move to Family Inventory", which to varying degrees allow acquiring objects that are not normally possible to acquire whatsoever, even including things like geyser rifts, trash piles, and billboards. They may however not necessarily be easy to place from the family inventory to somewhere on a residential lot.

Options that are not prefixed with "DEBUG:" will normally work well enough. Ones that are marked with "DEBUG:" may potentially act a bit odd; for instance, "DEBUG: Add Cooking Books" will require the Sim to at the very least walk to the bookshelf to add the books.

Dreamer[]

The Dreamer alters the way dreams are satisfied and how long they remain available.

Dresser[]

The Dresser replaces black-listed CAS parts with random selections, as well as add random accessories, and rotate through multiple outfit choices on a period basis.

GoHere[]

The GoHere mod enhances the "Go Here" and "Visit Lot" interactions.

HomeOpener[]

This mod allows the player to see into NPC's homes without entering.

Hybrid[]

Fixes interface issues associated with hybrid occult sims.

MasterController[]

NRaas Master Controller top menu Sim

The top menu when clicking on a Sim.

MasterController is a mod that provides a large number of features, including but not limited to tasks that would otherwise be impossible to do in game, or tasks that would take a long time to do in the proper way. A few of these tasks include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Instantaneously change a Sim's life state.
  • Give a Sim multiple life states.
  • Arbitrarily add lifetime rewards points to a Sim.
  • Give a Sim lifetime happiness points.
  • Enter Stylist mode to change their outfits.
  • Change a Sim's traits, or remove existing ones to have fewer than 5 traits.
  • Give a Sim almost any moodlet in the game on command.
  • Adjust any Sim's alien DNA percentage.[TS3:S]
  • Change a Sim's celebrity star rating.[TS3:LN]

The highest amount of options are available when clicking on a Sim or on a city hall. Other objects and rabbit holes can be clicked on, but have fewer options available for them.

Options are grouped together loosely by what the NRaas developer team felt had a lower or higher chance of breaking a savefile. The ones they felt pretty safe about are in Basic, the ones with theoretical chances of messing up are in Intermediate, while the ones they were worried about players messing randomly around with are in Advanced.

MasterController may use optional modules. They are not needed in order to run and install MasterController, but can extend its functionality.

MasterController Modules[]

Mover[]

Using this mod removes the household moving restrictions like "Requires Adult" and 8 Sims limit. It also comes with the options of altering how funds move when merging or splitting households.

OnceRead[]

With this mod installed sims will always pick books they haven't read when using the "Read something" interaction on bookshelves.

Overwatch[]

NRaas Overwatch city hall top menu
Main article: Overwatch

This corrects errors by the core game and other mods.

By default, the mod runs automatically at 03:00 daily in-game time. This can result in a bit of lag and temporary freezing at that in-game time. It is not normally needed to actually select any options to set up the mod, though the mod's functions can be manually run at any time by clicking on the city hall.

PocketProtector[]

Deals with EA bungles where certain objects are not protected against deletion during use by inactive sims.

Porter[]

This mod corrects errors done by exporting or importing sims to and from the library.

PortraitPanel[]

This mod allows the player to display 24 portraits of active sims on the left side of the screen.

Register[]

NRaas Register food stand main options

The top menu when clicking on a register or stand. The options on the city hall are fairly different.

The mod replaces the EA Role Manager with a custom version that corrects several bugs and allows for greater flexibility.

The most practical use of the mod, is to manually replace NPC cash register and food stand staff (as well as show stage proprietors and mixologists) who seemingly don't feel like showing up to staff the shop, or who are stuck in routing errors or apparent limbos. That being said, it's not a 100% certain guarantee that the new manually selected NPC will be interested in showing up either.

When clicking on the city hall, the mod also allows turning off paparazzi (or to increase the number of paparazzi). The number of tourists in a world can also be changed.

The register and stand options will fail to show up if a savefile has just been loaded, and that the initial state after loading is Pause. Unpausing the game for a couple in-game minutes, will make the options show up.

Relativity[]

Alters the flow of time within the game, giving the sims more time to perform actions within the sim-day.

RelationshipPanel[]

Replaces the menu displayed when clicking on the Relationship Panel, with a full Sim interaction listing.

Retuner[]

NRaas Retuner city hall top menu

Offers ways to soft-change GameplayData.package files and values for one savefile at a time, though its menus are somewhat hard to navigate through. Can be used as a springboard to become familiar with changing gamefile values, before moving on to S3PE to make all-savefiles tuning mods.

Saver[]

Periodically prompts the user to save the game, providing in-game options as to when to save.

SecondImage[]

Fixes an issue where the secondary image in the notification window is not clickable.

Selector[]

Changes how the menu system works when clicking on objects, adding error handling, and increased flexibility.

Shooless[]

Shooless removes the need for Sims to shoo others away when using showers, baths and toliets in the same room.

SleepFreedom[]

Object mod that replaces standard double beds with ones that do not have bed sharing restrictions.

StoryProgression[]

NRaas Story Progression top menu Sim

Many players find that the default EA story progression make very little progresses throughout the town, such as very few newborns as players play for longer generations. EA story progression is also notorious for emigrating random Sims at any time whenever the town is considered to be overpopulated, making some players' Sims lose their friends randomly without warning. All in all, an unmodded save file has an unofficial housed population limit of around 65~85.

These kinds of behaviors are addressed by Twallan's StoryProgression mod. The mod comes up with even more options to balance the town population, and even enhance the residents such as letting them earn skills, career progression, and so on. The mod doesn't exactly control every single resident in the town to build skills, such as pushing them to work out, but rather, they are given chances at reasonable time whenever it is possible for them to learn a new skill.

The mod is stuffed with a large number of detailed settings that can be rather difficult to locate. Additionally, upon saying yes to turn on NRaas Story Progression for a savefile, it will show an option to force homeless Sims out of town. Even if "No" is picked, the game will disregard the choice and try to run them out anyway, unless General Options → "Options: Households" → Manage Homeless is manually set to False within an unclear amount of time.

By default, all "Stories" options are set to On, which can lead to rather frustratingly large notification spamming if most or all of those options aren't turned Off manually.

Arguably the most interesting function of the mod, is that it allows significantly larger residential town populations than what The Sims 3 was in fact designed for. General Options → "Options: Sims" → Maximum Residents → Human is set to 150 by default, and can be set to and accommodate around 300 on more powerful PCs.

The mod also massively increases the chance that NPC households will produce offspring.

Various of its options will only show up if NRaas → Story Progression → General Options → Story Progression has been set to "(True)".

Tagger[]

NRaas Tagger city hall top menu

This mod overhauls the map tag system allowing you to tag Sims and lots automatically or manually and color the tags based on several forms of criteria. It also allows for the support of custom map tags.

The mod is also able to add or change the street addresses of lots, as the only known The Sims 3 mod to do so. However, if Tagger is removed from the gamemods folder, all such address names will be reverted.

Tempest[]

Control mod for specifying weather on a town-by-town basic. As well as various season related settings.

Traffic[]

NRaas Traffic top menu

Controls autonomous vehicular traffic such as the Food/Ice Cream Trucks, and provides some minor vehicle routing settings. It can also be used to disable phantom taxis that have no passengers in them.

The options can only be changed by clicking on the city hall.

It has fairly significant functionality despite having only 3 relevant options:

  • Allows food trucks in worlds that aren't Bridgeport.
  • Allows food trucks to not require food truck parking spots.
  • Allows having more than 1 each of food trucks and/or ice cream trucks driving around per town.
  • "Traffic Delta" can be changed to reduce or remove (or if need be, increase) the amount of fake taxis driving around. Setting it to "-5000" should be sufficient to remove fake taxis entirely.

Traveler[]

NRaas Traveler trip planner

Replaces the coding that controls town transitioning, adding better error catching, and altering travel restrictions (enabling Sims to go on vacation to any installed regular world, within slight limitations).

By default, travels to regular worlds cost the same as for Shang Simla, e.g. §1,600 for 3 days. For simplicity's sake, all Sims in the active household automatically get visa level 3 for regular worlds. Unless additional non-NRaas mods are used, the price for 3 days cannot be set to lower than §1,000 for one adult.

The mod also adds extensive features beyond merely additional destinations: It permits weather[TS3:S] and wild animals[TS3:P] in sub-worlds, and allows picking lot assignments in Edit Town that would normally not be available in regular worlds (Base camps, dormitories, recreational parks, etc.), although NRaas Master Controller can do the latter one through its options menus.

Though the advantages outnumber the problems, there are various known bugs with the mods that would not be practically feasible to fix. One of them is that Sims who travel between various worlds in succession without going home in the meantime, can make the game think one of their destinations is their main homeworld, making it at least somewhat tricky to get back to their actual household home.

If the player has many expansion packs, Store worlds, and/or custom worlds installed, they should keep in mind to have a bit of hard disk space available before going on frequent travels. Depending on how many lots and objects a world has, traveling at least once to every official world would generate many enough .nhd files for the savefile folder to reach possibly as much as 5 GB.

Worlds visited through NRaas Traveler, will not have the usually automatically placed lots placed on them, including festival grounds, consignment stores, live show venues, and so on. Such lots can however be placed manually while a player Sim is in that world.

Traveler ghost bug[]

There is a known[3] bug with the mod wherein loading an existing savefile, then going back to the main menu and starting a new game, will cause the game to place households with Sims that are supposed to be dead/ghosts, into empty lots or unconverted EP-specific public lots (e.g. junkyards, salons). Trying to pick any of those households as the active household, will cause the HUD to disappear, softlocking the game.

Though the bug most likely makes that world unplayable and in a state where it shouldn't be saved, it could be used to get info on which households deceased Sims used to live with ("McUnderAstro", "MaleGhosts", etc.)

Vector[]

Adds the ability to load and simulate custom diseases into the game.

Woohooer[]

Allows players to have teen WooHoo and pregnancy, teen-adult relationships, and teen marriage. It also gives the options for WooHoo with pets, and risky WooHoo (possibility of pregnancy).

WrittenWord[]

Adds all Sim-written books to the in-game bookstore.

Core mods[]

Currently, NRaas Industries only has two core mods; ErrorTrap and UntranslatedKey. Like all core mods, they will only work with a specific patch level.

ErrorTrap[]

NRaas ErrorTrap notification example

This mod cleans up save games and provides a means of error reporting, mostly useful for players who wish to support debug reports to Twallan, or wish to write their own script mods. It's not necessary for most The Sims 3 players and users to install.

However, it can also be used by regular players to get visual feedback on e.g. which Sims that have been automatically reset and when, objects that didn't work correctly for a moment, and similar situations.

UntranslatedKey[]

This is a Core-Mod that overrides the SimIFace Scripting Core. Its primary purpose is to unlock the ability to see untranslated string keys in-game.
