Mom's house is a location that appears in SimValley in The Sims for console and The Sims: Bustin' Out. It is the home of the player's mother, Mom Landgraab.
In its first appearance, the player lives here when they start the "Get a Life" story mode. Mom is playable on this lot, but if the player tries to make her do any chores, she will refuse and tell the player's Sim to do it. The one-bedroom house features one double bed, which the player can share with Mom if they are friends.
In The Sims: Bustin' Out, the small but comfortable house appears to be located near a farm. Similar to its previous iteration, the house is the starting location for the game's story mode. Oddly, however, it features only a single bedroom, meaning the player must build another room for themself if they choose to stay. Unlike the previous game, Mom is not a playable character, though she will make dinner and clean up.
Moving out[]
In order to move out in The Sims, the player's Sim must "borrow" 800 simoleons from Mom, get a cooking skill in order to make dinner without starting a fire, get a mechanical skill point in order to fix the TV, and get a job.
In The Sims: Bustin' Out, moving out is much simpler than in the first game, as the only goal the player needs to complete is getting a job. However doing so can lead to the player being unable to hire the Maid unless they move back in.
Mom will nag the player until these goals are accomplished. Unlike in the first game, the player's Sim can visit and/or move back to Mom's house.
Goals[]
The Sims[]
- Borrow §800 from Mom
- Make Dinner without starting a fire
- Fix the Television
- Get a Job
The Sims Bustin' Out (console)[]
- Press shoulder button for double speed
- Eat enough food to fill your stomach
- Use a toilet to empty your bladder
- Do fun stuff to raise your fun level
- Use the newspaper to find a job
Notes[]
- In The Sims: Bustin' Out, moving back in to Mom's house every now and then is a great way to increase your skill points and relationships without needing to go to work, since no bus ever stops outside her house. Once you're ready to go back to work, simply move back in to the house that you were staying at previously and you will still have your job.
- Also in Bustin' Out, some of the created Sim's needs will not decay below half. This includes the Hygiene, Comfort, Energy, and Social needs. This makes increasing skills considerably easier.
Trivia[]
- In The Sims (console), attempting to prevent Mom from turning on the broken television and going ahead with the other Goals will render the house incomplete, as when the Find a Job objective appears, she'll prevent the player's Sim from doing it.
- In The Sims (console), If you sold some items to complete Borrow Money objective without rebuying them before you leave, Mom will yell at you and you'll have to pay interest according to how much stuff you sold.
- In The Sims (console), the Borrow Money from Mom objective can be abused via the infinite money exploit, where making over that required amount would instantly mark it as complete.
- When moving out of the Lot, Mom will say that the player's Sim is only "10 promotions away" from getting Malcolm's Mansion, but the player only needs 8 promotions in order to move into that Lot. She'll also still say the quote even after completing all seven careers.
- In Bustin' Out, a fire cannot be started at this Lot, no matter if it's via a low Cooking Skill, objects near fireplace or via a Rocket Gnome.
- In Bustin' Out, There are unused flavor text strings of Mom leaving the house much like Mimi Landgraab in Mimi's Place and Dudley Landgraab in Dudley's Trailer., but she never leaves the Lot in the final game. Those strings consist of her going to work or on a date with one of the meetable Sims in Bust Out mode.
