List of Easter eggs in The Sims
Bunny
"EA stole my eggs!"

An Easter egg is a message hidden in the object code of a program, movie, book, CD, DVD, or video game as a joke, intended to be found by persons disassembling or browsing the code.

There are many Easter eggs in The Sims series. Some of these are hidden in the actual game play and others are hidden in the code.

The Sims

  • The Yeti from the Vacation expansion pack appears on the TV screen if the cartoons channel is selected. If Superstar is installed, a Betty Yeti film-poster is added to the game.
  • In the neighborhood screen, the Loch Ness Monster occasionally appears in the water for a few seconds. The monster also appears in Downtown and Vacation Island.
Nessie in The Sims

Loch Ness Monster!

Flying saucer

The spaceship with the searchlight

  • There are many Easter eggs with the Crumplebottom family such as the court house next to the Goth Sr home, the prune tree, and the park.

The Sims 2

  • Bella Goth: There are many references to this mysterious Sim in the game. Bella Goth appears on the milk cartons and newspapers in the game. In the texture files of the fireplace, there is a small hidden picture of Bella in the right hand corner. It is rumoured that Bella and her brother Michael are standing in the hot air balloon neighborhood object in the game; others suppose this is the Blond Bombshell from the Sims Hot Date expansion pack. Bella appears in many of the decorative photographs of the game, one being a picture of herself named "Bella Squared." She can be seen at community lots in Strangetown. With Apartment Life expansion, the neighborhood has a statue of Bella holding a plumb bob. In The Sims 2 for PlayStation 2, the name of a refrigerator is "Chow Bella Bachelor. Bella Goth Sims can be made in the Sims 2 with a combination of a red strapless top and skirt, medium skin and black hair. " If you put on this outfit, you will see a wedding ring if you look closely at her finger. It must be the red dress.
  • Onomatology: Several pre-made Sims in the game have names that allude to a meaning. For example, Olive Specter's ghosts, 'Rigger Mortis' and 'Earl E. DeMise'.
  • The Pleasant Sisters: One of the programs on the Sims Broadcasting Network shows two girls fighting, and a clip showing that may appear in promos on other channels. The girls look just like Angela and Lilith Pleasant.
  • Freezer bunny: Almost as common as the Bella Goth Easter eggs is the freezer bunny, representing a pink bunny cartoon and first appearing on the back of a juice carton in the community lot freezers.
  • Simpsons house: A house on the train table in Freetime bears a striking resemblance to 742 Evergreen Terrace, the house of the Simpsons family.
  • The flying pig: A neighborhood object/event released with The Sims 2: Open for Business. Appears in neighborhoods with a water tower. It is a reference to Pink Floyd, who often used inflatable pigs as props at their concerts.
  • The spaceship: A neighborhood object/event released with Pets. When a crashed spaceship is placed in the neighborhood, a spaceship arrives with a searchlight to find the crashed ship.
  • The spaceship's number plate: Says 'anm8er' (It sounds like "animator"). When an abduction occurs on the lot and the UFO comes to return the Sim, the numberplate can be seen.
  • House Of Fallen Trees: It is unconfirmed whether or not this is an Easter egg, but there appears to be a house in the menu that, when selected and put down somewhere in the neighborhood, will have a basement with two coffins underwater. The closest one is found in Downtown. A large house towards the west has a basement. In it are two coffins, but they're not underwater. The house in Downtown also has the graves of some of the Tricou family members in the backyard (House of Fallen Trees).
  • The pig balloon usually seen in the neighborhood view can also be seen popped and lying on a tree when a Sim adds trees to a model train set from The Sims 2: FreeTime.
  • When using the boolprop testingcheatsenabled cheat to view the Grim Reaper's bio, it says that his favorite band is Styx.
  • With the Apartment Life expansion pack, while moving the camera towards the sea and the upper left corner of the screen when in movie making mode (TAB), Baba Yaga's hut from Bon Voyage can be seen.
  • When reading the buyable tree trunk in Bon Voyage, messages can appear saying: DL+CG, DL+DC, DL+NC, DL+KL, a reference to all of Don Lothario's loves in Pleasantview. (Don Lothario+ Cassandra Goth, Don Lothario+Dina Caliente, Don Lothario+Nina Caliente and Don Lothario+Kaylynn Langerak).
  • Career reward: The Sims 2 logo can be seen on the lower part on the 3rd mat of the Medical career reward.
  • Maxis outfit for girls: In The Sims 2, there is an outfit for girls with Will Wright on front and a Maxis logo on the back.
  • Using SimPE or another third party editing program to open the character files of several pre-made male Sims in Veronaville (e.g. Kent Capp, Cornwall Capp, Patrizio Monty etc.) reveals that they have a slight gender preference for males at the beginning of the game, despite the fact that they are involved in heterosexual romantic storyline. This is possibly a reference to the ongoing critical debate over the possible sexuality of William Shakespeare, on whose life and plays the neighborhood is based. It could also be referring to the fact that, in Shakespeare's day, only men were allowed to act.
  • On the counter of the hot dog stand in Apartment Life, the player can see some recognizable pictures. The pictures include the photos from the photo album of the Smith family, the Grunt family, the Lothario family, the Broke family, and many more. There are also the pictures of Romeo Monty and Bella Goth.
  • Occasionally, sounds which sound like scanning in Spore are heard.
  • Noticeboard: On one of the noticeboards from University, if the graphic quality is set to high, players can read a pinned paper with words written in alphabet "OPEN" and mirrored "HOUSE".
  • Video Game: When Mr. Humble drops off his free gift, a computer, it also includes the game The Sims 3. When Sims play it, players can see a Sims 3-style Create-a-Sim, and Sims 3 lots, such as the park, movie theater, and town hall.
  • Toy Making Station: The toy available on the toy making station included in The Sims 2: Open for Business with no badge is "Sir Bricks-a-Lot." This is a play on Sir Mix-a-Lot, who is an African-American rapper/songwriter. Of the designs available for the toy, there is one that has a beard/stubble, meant to look like the real-life singer.

The Urbz: Sims in the City

  • When starting The Urbz: Sims in the City, if the player does not press start at the title screen. The game will play a video, this does not occur in the PS2 version.
    • Also on Xbox, if the player loads a game in The Urbz: Sims in the City and plays any Urb or goes to a different location, pictures will sometimes be seen.
  • In the Gamecube version of The Urbz, when going to Blankwood Towers, you will see a dresser that looks like a Nintendo Gamecube which allows Urbz to dress as Darius or Roxanna Moxie.
  • In Kicktail Park, if the player shakes the Ice Cream Machine while he/she is in a bad mood, the hands of a monkey will shake the Urb and kill him/her.
  • There is a special Urb called Bobo. He does not appear in the relationship list (But he is listed on the Call Urb screen) but he can be made to join your crew in which the player can control him. Although he has Central Station clothes, he is treated as a Gasoline Row Urb.

The Sims 2 (Console)

  • In The Sims 2 for Console, when looking the the Comic objects, one can see Darius from The Urbz: Sims in the City.
  • Objects and Sim animations in The Sims 2 are the same as The Urbz: Sims in the City, this also occurs on The Sims 2 Pets.
  • When using a metal detector, a Sim can find a copy of The Urbz: Sims in the City.
  • In the GBA version, when starting the first episode, Daddy Bigbucks will mention that there are gangster buddies back in Miniopolis but no gangs have appeared in The Urbz: Sims in the City.
  • In the PSP version, Bella's secret's will mention that she never loved Mortimer, this is not true because Bella has a high relationship with him and Bella can love him at any time.
    • However, The Sims and The Sims for Console, Bella does not have Lover status with Mortimer by default but they will become lovers if you make her use a romantic social such as Kiss.
  • In The Sims 2 for GBA, Daddy Bigbucks mentions the Goth family and it can be seen when starting a new episode or when finishing it.

The Sims 2 Pets (PSP)

  • When going to Town Square, players may get the message "Today is the Cat Day!". Oddly, this may also appear in The Sims Castaway at random times when looking inside a bottle.

References to previous Sims games/characters

Sims

  • Several of the Easter eggs have to do with the Tragic Clown - first seen in The Sims. His picture seems to have taken the place of Bella Goth on the back of the milk carton. A parody fish has the name the Tragic Clownfish. Probably the biggest Easter egg is the Tragic Clown's grave in Pleasant Rest Graveyard.
  • Vincent Skullfinder, from MySims, is buried in the graveyard.
  • In The Sims 3 the Goth family was incomplete, Gunther's sister Frida Goth was excluded from the family, however there is one Sim in Goth's graveyard named Lolita Goth and some players believe that she is Gunther's sister, but that is also improbable since Frida died as an elder and Lolita as a young adult, this allowed some players to believe that she is Gunther's ex-wife. For theories see Lolita Goth/theories.
  • In The Sims 3: Late Night, there is a possibility that Sims will exclaim, "This place is hotter than Hank Goddard that one time he caught on fire!" when visiting a random hotspot. This is a reference to Hank Goddard, Pauline Wan's fiancee. It is also possible they will exclaim, "This place is as hot as Connor Frio with a bad case of hypothermia."; as a reference to Connor Frio.
  • There is a secret cave on the outskirts of the map. If you look inside it, you will be able to see two glowing "monster" eyes. It is just a prop. There is also many rare minerals close to the abandoned mine.
  • The same "monster" eyes can be seen inside a log in Appaloosa Plains.
  • In Twinbrook near the house called "Swampy" there is a fake jackalope with a wooden back and a wooden stand holding it up.
  • The game's main theme, remixed for Late Night and Pets, originated in The Sims 2: University.
  • The music heard inside the bookstore is Jazz music from The Sims 2: University, while the music heard inside the diner is Oldies music from The Sims 2: Nightlife.
  • The music heard inside the Sharma Day Spa in the Sims 3 is from The Sims 1 Building Mode

  • "Oh The Destinations You'll Briefly Visit" is possibly a refrence to "Oh, The Places You Will Go!" by Dr. Seuss.
  • "1948" (one of the default names for Sci-Fi books) is probably a reference to the book "1984" written by George Orwell.

  • There is a buyable shelf that comes full of mementos and curios, one of which is a photograph of the young man and woman on the cover of The Sims 2: University box.

  • When children or teens have a school trip on the graveyard mausoleum, they may receive a painting. The painting has a figure of a ghost with a green color and what appears to be a black coloration in his stomach just to the left of the mausoleum. It is speculated that this reveals a new type of death in an upcoming expansion pack. Most likely a ghost sim who died of illness as featured in Sims 2. This may ship with the rumored weather expansion pack for Sims 3.
  • There is a painting called "Rainbows! Lasers! Cats!" and is a possible reference to the popular internet meme "Nyan Cat".

Objects

  • The Lucky Door is said to be made by Mr. McMann, from Pleasantview after he won in Bingo seven days in a row.

  • A loveseat is said to be designed by Mortimer Goth.

This is a reference to the first few lines of "Stairway to Heaven"; "There's a lady who's sure/All that glitters is gold/And she's buying a Stairway to Heaven".
  • An object that comes with the Pets expansion pack is "Sir Bricks-A-Lot, Jr.", a refrence to the rapper Sir Mix-A-Lot, and the original "Sir Bricks-A-Lot" in The Sims 2.

  • When traveling to the future in Ambitions, Sims can encounter a Mass Effect reference (Some sort of shepherd saving the galaxy from an ancient machine threat), a Red Faction: Guerrilla reference (The Sim stands up for Miners' Rights on Mars and is attacked by the Earth Police), and when traveling to the past a Dragon Age: Origins reference (While traveling through the tunnels, the Sim was saved by a Warden who led the Sim out safely). The Red Faction reference is slightly odd, considering EA had nothing to do with the game; it is published by THQ and designed by Volition.
  • When receiving a certificate for mastering Athleticism, the athletic institute is named "Grodiek Institute", a pun on a creator of the game, G. Rodiek.
  • While it may be just a name, Morrigan Hemlock may also be a reference to Dragon Age: Origins. Not only does she share a unique first name with an important character in the game, but also wears an outfit slightly reminiscent of the Dragon Age Morrigan.
  • One of the Rocks/Metals that Sims can pick up is Tiberium, which is a reference to Command and Conquer.

Plane on Sunset Valley
  • Occasionaly airplanes can be seen in the sky of Sunset Valley.
  • Some of the rabbit holes have music from MySims as their background music.
  • When Travelling to the Past in the Time Machine from Ambitions your Sim may get a message about horse riding which also mentions that it could be useful in near future: that must be a possible hint to Sims 3 Pets.
  • On the big rocks near Crystal Springs in Sunset Valley, there are alien carvings on the rocks presenting some sort of message.
  • Premade deceased Sims in Twinbrook, Barnacle Bay and Bridgeport are all light-green skinned, grey-haired, barefoot and dressed in similar hues. Also these Sims share their last name with some Twinbrook families, possibly meaning that they may be related to them but oddly they don't appear in t

  • One of the background music songs in any grocery stores bears a resemblance to the song from the movie "A Boy Named Charlie Brown" called "Champion Charlie Brown"
  • NPCs from Bridgeport and Barnacle Bay often don't have the typical and appropriate traits to the determinate NPC job, for example babysitters don't have the Family-Oriented trait.
  • There is an Easter egg in Twinbrook giving a hint of Bridgeport. See this video - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2NCgL20Lqaw, and in Bridgeport you can see the same thing.
  • As the Easter egg above, if you look at the Big Bling Household in Bridgeport, you can see a description saying that no one knew how these "former Twinbrook residents came under the same roof."
  • In the theater at Bridgeport, there is a movie poster of a doctor examining a woman, as seen on The Sims 3 Ambitions box.

  • When travelling to the past, the player may randomly get a message about the disappointment of the Sim that personal teleportation is still not possible 50 years after The Sims 3. This makes no sense, since teleportation does exist in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories and can be achieved by meditating or learning the Ninja teleportation trick[TS2:BV]. Kids can also be teleported by the Social worker[TS2][TSLS][TSPS]. Repomen also teleport in The Sims 2 and The Sims Stories if the walls are blocking the objects. Teleportation is also possible through the Teleporter Challenge Reward. Although it's possible the game means an object that allows personal teleportation. Also in World Adventures, Sims can teleport by using Zeneport.

The boats from Hidden Springs.

  • Watching the european version of the trailer of The Sims 3: Pets, a truck can be seen. It was later revealed that it is an Ice Cream truck.
  • There are 2 boats sailing in Hidden Springs.
  • While having a Sim play computer games, if you listen closely, you can hear music from The Sims: Makin' Magic.
  • The in-game icon for R&B has a picutre of a man who looks like Ray Charles.

The Sims Medieval

  • When playing a quest as the Wizard, the player may be given the chance to undertake an optional quest objective, "scry into the distant future (just for fun)". A dialogue box appears describing a "beautiful woman in a red dress" and a confused image of "Gothic bells", clearly intended as a vision of Bella Goth.
  • When the music box is opened, two small dancing automatons can be seen inside. The female figure wears a long red dress, which could possibly be a medieval variation on Bella Goth's iconic outfit. Her male dancing partner is also dressed smartly in dark hues, and could possibly be a medieval version of Mortimer.
  • When the Blacksmith is making something, they will get the 'Hammer Tyme' buff, with 'Thy cannot touch this' as the description, a reference to the MC Hammer song.
  • When any hero sim gets a minor wound, the description says, 'Tis merely a flesh wound. I've had worse', a reference to Monty Python and the Holy Grail.
  • There is a townie called 'Rodger the Shrubber', another reference to 'Holy Grail'.
  • When sending a parrot to 'Hunt for Treasure' the description says 'How much treasure can a parrot carry? I suppose it's a question of weight ratios,' another reference to 'Holy Grail'.
  • There's a song played on the lute called Lament for Mortimer.
  • When playing the quest to kill the monarch, the spy discovers that the monarch is an imposter, and the true monarch's bones are buried under the name of Sambert Limnel. This is a reference to Lambert Simnel, who was a 'pretender' in Henry VII's reign. Lambert Simnel pretended to be the Earl of Warwick so as to claim that he was the true heir to the throne. This is practically the opposite to what happens in the game play, therefore it is ironic that they swap the letters around of the first and

Llamas

Main article: Llama

  • The Llamas is an old joke from Maxis dating all the way back to SimCity 2000, when the speed names where "Pause", "Turtle", "Llama" "Cheetah".'' African Swallow"
  • Llamas appear throughout most games of The Sims series. The theme appears as the mascot of the college in The Sims 2: University and various pictures. The pirate ship in Bon Voyage (and Hogan's Deep Sea Diner in Barnacle Bay) has a llama figurehead on it as well as the face of a llama and vegetables as the jolly roger on the ship and Mr. Humble´s computer has a picture of a llama on it. Also, in The Sims, calling to invite over a person who doesn't particularly want to accept said invitation, they will sometimes say "I'm sorry. I can't; I have to feed my pet llama," or "I'd rather play Myshuno with a pack of llamas." There is a book in The Sims 3 entitled "Llama's Rights". Another indication of the infamous Llama is on the Foosball table. It can clearly be seen on the sides of it. Also, in The Sims 3: Late Night, when a Sim is using the Bubble Bar, there is a chance that it will blow a bubble in the shape of a llama. In The Sims 2 Castaway, the Llama people appear on every island. Also, in The Sims 2, Sims on the first level of in the sports career, Team Mascot, wear a llama costume. Sims in The Sims 3 and The Sims Medieval can also do a Mean interaction which is "Imply Mother as a Llama". Also in The Sims 3 Ambitions expansion pack, Sims can get a llama tattoo. In the stylist profession added in The Sims 3 Ambitions, Sims can reject a client by using the interaction "Reject and imply client looks like a llama". In The Sims 3, there is a lifetime reward named "Fast Learner" and its description is "Learn and improve skills faster than a galloping llama!". In The Sims 3 Generations, you can have a llama cane as an elder. The cheatcode "enablellamas on" also alludes to this love of llamas, although entering this cheat code does not actually have any effect on gameplay. In The Sims 3 for console, there is a llama that can be used for cheating. In the sims 3 base game, a toddler's everyday shirt has a picture of a llama on it. Also, Bachelor Stadium in Twinbrook has a picture of a Llama in the soccer picture. If a sim visits an art gallery after the Generations expansion pack has been installed, they will get the memory "That art gallery is full of horizon-expanding pieces, such as a Llama standing on a box of apples". In The Sims 3, in front of Mike's cornerstore in the town of Bridgeport, there is a sign outside with a picture of a llama wearing a suit and holding a guitar.
