Lifeguard

A lifeguard surveying

Lifeguard is a profession in The Sims 3: Island Paradise and a part-time job in The Sims 4: Island Living.[1]

The Sims 3: Island Paradise[]

Sims can join the profession by going to city hall or clicking on the lifeguard chair at the beach, in addition to using the newspaper or computer.

This is a playable career, so the player should actively monitor the Sims swimming in the ocean at their beach. For this career, Sims need to improve their athletic and charisma skills. Performing rescues and other job duties while working at the beach will improve career performance. If a Sim at level 10 of the career saves 35 Sims, they will be rewarded a title of an uncharted island.

Lifeguard work days always occur on Monday, Wednesday, Friday, and Sunday, regardless of career level, from 10 AM to 6 PM. Jobs might not occur on festival days (see The Sims 3: Seasons).

Swimming NPCs who are shown as needing help will not die by drowning, but after ~2 hours they will swim back to shore on their own and insult the lifeguard (both in notifications and in socializing).

In order for the "Join Lifeguard Profession" option to show up, there must be at least one beach lot assignment in the world. Such a beach does not necessarily have to be at the shoreline, but drowning Sims can be generated off the nearest shore, which has particular effect on Hidden Springs. Drowning Sims will not be generated in swimming pools.
