The Sims 3: Ambitions The Sims 3: Town Life Stuff The Sims 3: University Life The Sims 3 Store The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff

Laundry objects made their debut with The Sims 3: Ambitions and are to be used within the laundry system. These objects include the washer, dryer, clothing hamper and clothesline. The washer and dryer can be found in buy mode under "Appliances → Large Appliances" and "Bathroom →, while the clothing hamper and clothesline can be found under "Appliances → Miscellaneous Appliances". Laundry objects are also categorized under "Bathroom → Laundry".

In addition to washers, dryers, hampers and clotheslines, The Sims 4: Laundry Day Stuff also has washtubs for hand-washing laundry. Giving a lot the base game "Off-the-Grid" lot trait prevents washers and dryers from functioning (since there is no electricity or running water), forcing players to use washtubs and clotheslines if they want to do laundry.

Although there are no official laundry objects in previous installments, there are many Custom Content objects that resemble laundry objects for The Sims and The Sims 2. However, these objects are completely static and are for decoration purposes only.

Though de jure a base game object, it is not normally possible for the object to be generated in the vanilla base game. However, Ambitions, Late Night, Town Life Stuff, University Life, and certain Store objects can generate them with ease.

On residential lots with laundry objects, Sims will drop clothes on the floor relatively often, especially when using a drawer or when going to bed. Sims will hardly ever make the extra effort to walk over to the hamper with the clothes, and will instead simply drop them on the floor. If the clothes remain on the floor, they will cause a room's Environment value to plummet, and will even begin stinking with a green mist after a couple days.

The intended solution is to get a Sim to pick up the clothes and place them in a hamper, but players can also drag clothes into hampers or even directly into washing machines.

Bonehilda completely ignores the very existence of dirty clothes, making it better to hire a butler[TS3:LN] and/or maid by phone instead.

In Late Night, which has no other laundry objects, dirty clothes are instead generated when skinny dipping in a hot tub or a swimming pool. In contrast to all other dirty clothing settings, Sims will put on those clothes again when getting out of water. Other Sims can choose to hide the clothes, which will make the skinny dipper embarrassed, followed by putting on a towel. Dirty clothes generated this way, will not become stinky under normal circumstances.

Pile of wet clothes[]

Though de jure a base game object, it is not normally possible for the object to be generated in the vanilla base game. However, Ambitions, Town Life Stuff, University Life, and certain Store objects can generate them with ease.

Such a pile is generated if a Sim who is on their way to move the clothes from a finished washing machine wash, to a dryer or clotheslines, gets interrupted during the move. They will then drop the clothes on the ground, which by then are still wet. The pile will instantly create a puddle under it, especially noticeable when moving the pile around in Buy Mode.
