Article Cleanup
This article requires a cleanup to meet The Sims Wiki's quality standards.
Reason: Add console games languages, consider replacing checkmarks with language codes for the sake of Regedit. Some languages were introduced with expansion packs.
Please improve this article if you can.

Game translations are a concept where the Sims games have the HUD, notifications, object names and descriptions, neighborhood names, and some Sim names translated from English to a different language.

The table below aims to list which games are available in which languages.

How to change language[]

Language fonts[]

The Latin fonts used for the English versions are also expanded to cover some other languages' letters as well (Asian and East European game locales usually have their own different fonts).

The Sims 3[]

Sims 3 locales Latin font comparison

Differences in Latin letter rendering among the locales' fonts.

Western Latin fonts[]

  • All non-space characters in the Basic Latin Unicode block (except ␡)
  • All non-space characters in the Latin-1 Supplement Unicode block
  • French: œŒ
  • Polish: ł
  • Turkish: ı
  • Greek letters that are also used for math: μπΩ∂∆∏∑
  • Other math symbols: ‰∞≠≤≥√
  • Punctuations: ‘’“”„‹›•…
  • Special dashes and slashes: – — − ∕ ⁄
  • Other: ™€∫ℓ℮ƒ

Across all fonts[]

If the plan is to make sure that a name is the same across all languages, then the available character selection becomes significantly smaller.

  • All non-space characters in the Basic Latin Unicode block (except ␡)
  • Greek letters that are also used for math: μπΩ∂∑
  • Other math symbols: §±÷׉∞≠¶∫√°
  • Punctuations: “”‘’¨…´

Notes[]

  1. Added in Patch 91 in January 2020.
  2. 2.0 2.1 2.2 2.3 Only known to be available in the local PlayStation 2 version(s), and not on GameCube or Xbox.
  3. 3.0 3.1 Added in Vacation.
  4. Added later, but uncertain when.
  5. There was a big range of unofficial translations, currently there is a mod compatible with the Complete Collection and Legacy Edition.
  6. Added simultaneously with Open for Business addon launch in early 2006, the base game and previous addons was re-issued in Russia under localized brands.
  7. Though known differences from the EU version are few, and the EPs have identical names, some terms like traits and lifetime wishes are known to have differing translations; see http://foro.capitalsim.net/viewtopic.php?f=179&t=18501.
  8. While the th-TH language code works, and that launching the game with that code creates a "เดอะซิมส์ 3" folder in "Documents" → "Electronic Arts", the code will instead result in the in-game text being entirely in English as of Patch 67.
  • The BHAV "Check - Is Thai?" removes nudity from the Thai locale of The Sims 2, meaning that the "Streak" option becomes unavailable (though NPCs can still autonomously do it) and Sims change into underwear instead during contexts where they would usually be nude.
  • For The Sims 3, {number} is a group in which languages can be changed between each other without having to transfer save files and game mods from one folder to another, as the name remains the same (The Sims under {1} and Los Sims under {2}).
