Hey!
Let me get right to it; Hollowness has been working on a new theme (w:c:lir-test:Theme Preview). However, at the moment, we aren't able to settle on a logo that best represents us.
I proposed the current "general" The Sims logo. It's what's currently being used in marketing and promotional material for non-specific The Sims games. I think this makes the most sense, as the wiki encompasses all The Sims games, and imho it's no use to cling to the current logo we have (2014 The Sims 4 style, outdated by about two rebrands now!).
I believe green makes sense, as the test theme is predominantly blue in both light and dark mode.
On the other hand, I believe (correct me if I'm wrong!) Hollowness would rather stick with the current logo if that's possible.
I'm not really good at those kinds of posts so forgive me if I forgot anything, but I'd love it if we put it to a vote!
TLDR; in the scenario the new theme gets approved and applied, do we agree on using the new official logo? ODAPHII (talk) 09:51, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

Obviously I'm for the new logo myself lol ODAPHII (talk) 09:51, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
The logo definitely needs a change! LunarBritney (talk) 09:52, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Weak oppose - My issues are largely related to the franchise logo just being, well, ugly. But in looking at the logo live on the test wiki, it doesn't really look all that bad. I think the green chosen for the text gets a little washed-out against the dark mode background so it doesn't quite pop, but if the green is matched to the plumbbob color, then it makes sense to use it and I wouldn't really propose swapping to another color (though if we ever went back to the process of seasonal/holiday theme variation, you could change out the green for different colors on temporary logos). I get that the current TSW logo is old and based on an out-of-date version of the franchise logo, but, I dunno... it's our logo. I can't help but feel some sort of irrational attachment to it. I think it looks good. I think it fits our current theme well, and the proposed theme perhaps even better. I think it's okay that not everything is kept to the current visual theme of the series; this wiki has had its own distinct style from the games in the past. There's actually something to be said for that, because we aren't forced to re-update our theme every time the Sims Team decides to overhaul the franchise's look (which seems to happen more and more often). So, am I going to pitch a fit if this logo gets adopted? No. But I will be a little sad about it. I don't think it's the best fit for our current look or the new look, and I don't think the argument that we should follow what EA's design team is doing is necessarily all that convincing. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 13:23, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

- I guess that's true, but imho that's the thing; if the test theme is approved and applied, we're kind of moving away from our current themes. I think it's good to move forward! ODAPHII (talk) 13:51, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
- Maybe provide other colour samples to show the new logo's versatility? Or at least prove that the default colours are superior? Hollowness | Talk | Contr 13:55, 26 October 2024 (UTC)

- Here are a couple of tests I ran for white vs. black logos:
- That I am aware of the theme editor doesn't allow sperate logos for light and dark mode, but I bet I can do it with CSS. I think this is a good compromise for sure. Please upload these logos, at the very least for reference. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 14:53, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I added it to the new theme via css. The dark mode one could use drop shadow just on the "wiki" text portion to pop better with that theme's background, if this theme is to be chosen. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 17:09, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I love how hot it looks on the Supernatural themed page. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 18:09, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- This is what I see with the new theme. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 19:16, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I don't think a shadow is needed for the light mode version, and for the dark I think it be better if only the "wiki" text had the drop shadow (edit: maybe the plumbob too). Edit, edit: actually the drop shadow on dark mode witf new theme matches the navigation nvm. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 19:22, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
- I just wanna clarify the thought process with my tests: White logo with a bolder green for darker backgrounds, or black logo with a duller green for lighter backgrounds. The bolder green was color-picked from the logo announcement (which had a dark blue background), while the duller green was color-picked from the movie announcement (which had a white background).
If the banner does end up being a darker color, I'd highly recommend going with the bolder green I used, instead of trying to mess with drop shadows. 👍 Venomander (talk) 20:20, 27 October 2024 (UTC)

- I think the white for dark mode is pretty much perfect now (changing my neutral to vote for). I almost think the black for light more should get the bolder green too though. Edit: I think what had me on the fence was the dark mode with black/green (white/green just looks better on dark mode), the green may it be original or the compromise green, either way is fine. The white text to offset for dark mode nailed it down for me. It might be a weak support, I am still ok with the old, it is still support. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 18:55, 28 October 2024 (UTC)
FYI, I did end up going with a darker bolder background for dark mode and gave the old background for dark to light mode. So if this changes your stance or colour choices do take note. I personally think this makes dark mode with logo even better, and I am pretty ok with the light mode version of the logo on the new background, so light mode feedback would help. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 21:11, 31 October 2024 (UTC)
- Hmm, I think the previous light mode logo was better, without the drop shadows. The logos also use two different font styles for the "wiki" part as I've changed those in the process. I think we had a very good thing going right before this change. ODAPHII (talk) 04:56, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- Edit: Also, I think we could also make a new page tab icon using the new plumbob, I forget what they're called lol ODAPHII (talk) 19:30, 3 November 2024 (UTC)
- I think no drop shadows for either (it just looks cleaner), and they should use the same green (whatever green that may be), but for now can you do a light mode version with the original green and no drop shadow to match up with the dark mode (they should look like identical twins, just one with black and one with white font). If you want to also show with different greens for people go ahead. That is the Favicon graphic, yeah that is an easy change via the theme designer. We just need a small icon of what we want. Weak Support - The current logo does match the new theme/even old theme better IMHO, but I think the new logo looks good too. Edit: updated versions swayed me from neutral to weak support. Hollowness | Talk | Contr 13:31, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
Oppose - I'm generally a fan of change and updates to the wiki, but I think we need a few more options for the next iteration of the logo. But I also am curious on the wiki's theme necessarily has to match with what EA has. Ѧüя◎ґ (talk) 20:20, 26 October 2024 (UTC)
It just doesn't capture The Sims aesthetic like current logo. - ℙ𝖎𝖊𝖗𝖈𝖊ℝ𝖊𝖉𝖆𝖈𝖙𝖊𝖉 (talk) • (fanon) 01:57, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
I think it makes no logical sense to keep the current logo when it hasn't been in use by the franchise since 2019. This new logo is already being used across multiple projects (Town Stories, Project Rene, the MGM movie) and a new Sims 4 logo with that design was shown at Electronic Arts Investor Day, suggesting it will be used for that game at some point in the future.
Not only is the new logo more relevant today, it also accounts for the entire franchise instead of Sims 4 exclusively. Since we're a franchise wiki and not a Sims 4 wiki, it only makes sense. Venomander (talk) 03:03, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
Support but with an objection - I like the proposal, but I think the green is too fluorescent. I prefer a more muted green (which would also help with contrast), like the one in the image Venomander posted above, in LostInRiverview's opposal. I do think the actual logo is a bit outdated, but I wouldn't mind keeping it. Overall, I'd love Venomander's logo. –p6tgel (? · talk) 14:12, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
I support the new logo. It's very general to the franchise as a whole and makes the wiki feel more like a Sims Wiki.
I think the circle previews work really well for the interactive maps and the game logos, but a more square-ish one would be more appropriate for the categories/trending pages. On those pages, it's more important to be able to see more of the image. I don't entirely like the gradient background for header HTML tags; I think the simple line ones currently on the Wiki are much nicer. The idea of having hubs for each main-line game is great as well, but, as someone who primarily specializes in the spin-offs, I would want those games to be represented on the main page as well (probably an all-in-one 'spin-offs'-type thing).
I also like the blockquotes and wiki-tables. - Oliviahihigh (talk) 18:53, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
This new logo is good, I like it. It fits more with the modern logo of The Sims series that EA and Maxis made. IDontKnowAName3 (talk) 19:20, 27 October 2024 (UTC)
I like this logo, it looks very clean and modern. That said, I do have a couple of minor nitpicks. It's been said above but that green in the dark mode version is just a bit too bright for my tastes and it clashes with the background. I tried some paler shades of green and I think I prefer these, with the current logo on the test wiki at the bottom for comparison. The more muted color looks quite nice in my opinion and I think in terms of design consistency its nice having both light and dark modes being less bright shades of green. Please ignore how scuffed this looks I just used the fill tool on MS Paint and you could probably fine tune the colors further. As a side note I would also like to say that I think the current logo fits this current theme better and would only favor this logo if we do end up adopting the test theme.

Conclusion[]
This thread is separate from the new wiki theme thread, which was created after this thread in order to discuss the full theme adoption. As such, this discussion properly belongs as part of that thread. That being said, there is consensus here towards adopting the new logo, or some slight variation of it, so there isn't necessarily a big reason to rehash the same conversation in the other thread. -- LostInRiverview talk · blog · contribs 05:50, 27 November 2024 (UTC)
