Decisions[]

Too much happened after Contessa was born. There was just so much going on that I just wanted to rip out my hair; only my family kept me sane.

The twins, Dunstan and Leila, celebrated their birthday about a week after I had my daughter. They were a lot younger than me, but we were now a little bit closer, even with the gap that separated us. They had decisions to make. Dunstan had secretly made one a while back. The only one he told was me, when I caught him awake in the house one night. He had enlisted in the military. He told me it would make him a better person. I thought it was pointless.

He said to me that he would go to a military academy for aspiring young men and women that had been set up in Twinbrook. After he finished four years of training there he would be deployed as a cadet to war-torn countries halfway across the world. He told me about his future boss, a man named Marc Brandt, who had worked his way up from the very bottom to get to the top as the highest-ranking officer in his city, and one of the best nationally.

And he would be leaving in a month. He just didn't know how to break the news to his twin, his mother, and above all his father. I tried to convince him to stay, but there was nothing I could do to change his mind. He promised that he would come back, and that his vampire abilities would keep him safe. He would be a much needed asset to the armed forces, or so he said. And maybe it would make him a better person after all.

Garth had made a decision as well: he moved to Bridgeport. He said it was to make sure that I stayed safe. He didn't want me or any of his babies getting hurt. I realized that I wasn't just anyone for him. For once, and for the first time, I realized that I had made a difference in his life. And he had made a difference in mine. But whether or not that was a good thing would only be found with time.

Brigit had made the decision to get a nanny to watch over Contessa. She was your average baby; she was quiet some days and the others it sounded like you were torturing her. We hired Peyton Suzuki originally, but it was short lived as she was already an independent young adult and was ready to start a family of her own, not care for everybody else's families. After she left, a young teen willing to work for free came to watch little Contessa. And thankfully, Jupiter Belle wasn't scared of vampires in the least. In fact he had much in common with them: he hated going outside, and since he came over in the daytime, Contessa couldn't go out anyway.

And finally, I had made a decision as well. I wanted to move. Leila and Dunstan had already packed their bags and moved out to live with their father and mother. Garth and Morgana would soon become elders, and not very far afterwards Brigit and I would get older as well. Contessa was a baby, not yet affected by the delayed aging that comes to affect all vampires. And when she did grow up she would need more space than a cramped apartment. I secretly looked up places on the internet, checking the real estate, and I finally came to settle on the right place. I discussed it with Brigit, and she fell in love with my decision at first sight.

Dunstan has a new job. Garth had a new town to call home. Brigit and I had a new baby and a new home. Life was pretty hectic. But I wouldn't have it any other way.
