The Entertainment career track varies greatly between the three games in which it appears. In The Sims, its promotion levels and job descriptions are similar to those of the show business career track from The Sims 2: University and the film career track from The Sims 3: Late Night; while in The Sims 2: FreeTime it appears to exclude the film/TV theme from the original career track in The Sims, incorporating instead elements from the musician, animal care, circus and fame careers from the original game's expansions, as well as some NPC careers such as the mime. In The Sims Life Stories it seems to be more heavily production-based, as most promotion levels involve writing, directing or producing, while only one level involves acting.
There is no Entertainment career track in The Sims 3, though the acting and directing branches of the Film career (introduced in Late Night) are similar to the Entertainment career as it appears in The Sims and The Sims Life Stories, respectively. The three performance-based professions (singer, acrobat, and magician) introduced in Showtime are similar to the Entertainment career as it appears in FreeTime.
Of the ten career tracks in the base game, entertainment has the lowest pay at rank 1 but the highest pay at rank 10, making it the exact opposite of the military career track. It was also in a three-way tie with pro athlete and science for having the best ratio of pay to friends required to reach max rank (100). In both of these ways, it served as a precursor of sorts to the hacker track from Livin' Large, which has the absolute highest pay at rank 10 and best pay-to-friends ratio of the game and any of its expansions.
At rank 10, because the hours are so short, entertainment pays more money per hour (§1400/5 hours = §280/hr) than any other career track.
You're available for auditions, but can still make your tips at night. Good people-skills could get your picture and resume served along with the salad.

You're "atmosphere," "living scenery." The pay is pitiful, but at least you're on the set. No lines, though... and Central Casting can call you for the day shift or the night shift, depending on the production needs. Make sure you develop your charisma skill so that when that speaking part does come through, you'll be ready.

That's not the box-office mega-star being set on fire and tossed from a helicopter--that's you. You're making a name for yourself, though, and directors like your novel ideas for mock mayhem. Keep those creative juices flowing. You just might graduate to a low-budget starring role of your own--if you survive. Keep yourself and your gear in top shape, or you may miss that air bag. And keep developing your active social life--not only is it fun, it's very useful.

Cheap sci-fi, lowbrow horror and teen hormone comedies--you're the star...even if your best work seems to go "straight to video". If you really want to make it big, you need a great body and some very convincing and creative dialogue. Lots of work needed on these skills from here on out.

Your name's not on the poster, but at least it's a "major motion picture". You're the best friend, the villain's sidekick, or the cop who dies in the first half-hour. But, the studios have noticed you, and big things may be on the horizon. Keep practicing your lines and remember, it's not always what you know, it's who you know that counts.

You can afford a bigger house now, but the killer hours assure that you're not home as much as you'd like. Keep developing your charisma and body skills or you'll never get to the big screen.

An interesting feature about this career is that Sims will have a junky car collect them as their carpool for levels 1-7, whereas the carpool vehicle usually replaced by a better quality car at middle to high levels for most other careers.
From open mic nights to low-paying gigs at coffeeshops and pubs, you're making the rounds and paying your dues. Stick with it and work on that ever-important charisma to move up the entertainment food chain.

The Sims Life Stories[]
In addition to the FreeTime entertainment career, The Sims Life Stories also features an entertainment career track. The career is somewhat different from the FreeTime version, in that it contains more elements of a movie career. This makes it more similar to the show business career track from University than the FreeTime career track it shares a name with.

6) Solid Storyteller
Wow, <sim first name> can really keep a crowd captive, no handcuffs required! He/she is spending less time peddling business cards and more time practicing one-liners, "squirrel walks into a bar" jokes, and impressions that people actually recognize.
<sim first name> is doing a stand-up job with his/her stand-up routine, and people are starting to stand up and take notice. Good thing <sim first name> can cut them back down with a few quick jokes! (His/her jokes are better than these.)
<sim first name> is done flying under the radar. He/she is making some serious dough hosting charity events, awards ceremonies, roasts, and pretty much any other kind of party no one actually wants to attend. He/she may even be Best Man/Maid of Honor at a cheapskate celebrity wedding!
Just like that, <sim first name> is the big name on the marquee! Up-and-coming acts are excited to open for HIM/HER. The work is steady, pays well, and he's/she's even caught a few people on the street referencing his/her material and cracking each other up. Not bad!
