Dive wells are one of the most exciting tomb objects in The Sims 3: World Adventures, as well as a water object that could potentially be placed on public pool lots. Sims can use them to get the Soaked moodlet, which makes them immune to fire, or to put themselves out when already on fire. A hidden switch can be set at the bottom of dive wells. Sometimes, treasure can be found at the bottom.
The dive well can be colored (with a limited selection of colors), to make it fit its atmosphere, like blood red for a fire tomb, or murky green for a swamp tomb. The water will remain safe to Sims regardless of color, and there are no known cases of Sims having drowned in a dive well.
Sometimes a notification will pop up saying "Fish Kid was here", probably referencing the infamous "Kilroy was here".
Transport[]
Dive wells can also be portals to other areas of a tomb, or even to a dive well on an entirely different lot in that world. Sims will go to the bottom, and then emerge from another dive well. This lets adventurers enter island tombs and other inaccessible areas. On custom lots, players can optionally ^ Ctrl+⇧ Shift+click on the well to determine the destination targets and the treasures.
The transport system was later re-used practically verbatim for underwater caves.[TS3:IP]
Diving skill[]
Several years before diving boards were added to The Sims 3 in Patch 42, a Diving secret skill was added in World Adventures that centered around using the dive well. At the time, the skill maxed out at level 5.
When diving boards were added, the diving skill for dive wells and diving boards were merged together, and the skill was changed to max out at level 2. This caused a glitch that made previous Sims that had skill level 3 or higher unable to use diving boards. The glitch was fixed in Patch 50 a little under 4 months later.
