Community space is a lot assignment in The Sims 4: Eco Lifestyle, which can be placed in any non-destination world. It consists of four sub-assignments that are all part of the same lot: community space, community garden, marketplace and maker space.
The community space is the default active sub-assignment, and Sims living in the same neighborhood as the community space lot can vote for the three other sub-assignments. The one receiving the most votes then becomes the active sub-assignment. However, only one sub-assignment can be active at any one time, and they cannot exist on their own.
Each sub-assignment can be given different lot traits, and can have a completely different layout and structure to the others. An active sub-assignment can also be saved to the gallery and placed in game as its active sub-assignment. For example, a community space that has the marketplace sub-assignment active can be saved to the gallery as a marketplace lot assignment, and also be placed into the game as a marketplace lot. The game considers all four sub-assignments to be separate lot assignments, each with their own requirements and NPC behaviors.
All four sub-assignments require a community voting board, but they also each have a unique set of requirements:
- A community space requires nothing else.
- A community garden requires four planters, a toilet, a sink, and waste disposal. It also optionally requires two insect farms and two vertical gardens.
- A marketplace requires three sales tables, a toilet, a sink, and waste disposal. It also optionally requires two market stalls and two picnic tables.
- A maker space requires a fabricator, a recycler, a toilet, a sink, and waste disposal. It also optionally requires a woodworking table, an easel, a candle-making table, a juice fizzer, and an activity for children.
