Clones are Sims who are duplicated from an original Sim during gameplay. This is not the same as duplicated Sims created by saving a Sim and inserting them multiple times in the same game, as they are treated the same as regular Sims. In The Sims: Livin' Large, clones can be created using a potion from The "Concoctanation Station". In The Sims 3, clones can be created by purchasing a clone voucher lifetime reward, creating an alchemy elixir, or by using the science skill. In The Sims 4, clones can be made by cloning machine or using Duplicato spell by spellcasters.

The Sims: Livin' Large[]

If a Sim creates and drinks a dark green potion using The "Concoctanation Station", they will create an evil clone of themself, which will wander around and eventually disappear. During this time, the clone will use mean interactions on any people there, even their original self. As a result, the Sim's relationships with other people will deteriorate greatly because they will mistake the clone for the actual Sim.

The clone of a zombie Sim will not have tinted skin.

The Sims 3[]

The Sims 3: Generations[]

Purchasing the Clone Voucher reward gives your Sim a Clone Voucher, which will appear in their inventory and can be redeemed at the Science Facility. Redeeming the Clone Voucher will add a child-aged copy of your Sim to your household, which you will be prompted to name. The clone will inherit the appearance, gender, and zodiac of the original Sim, as well as three of the original Sim's personality traits. These can be any traits, even ones that would normally not be available to child age Sims. Subsequent traits are received normally, being either selected by the player or assigned automatically on age up depending on the clone's school performance.

Clones created in this way appear in the family tree as the child of the cloned Sim. Occult Sims cannot purchase this reward, nor can Sims in households that are currently full.

The Sims 3: Supernatural[]

At level 8 of the alchemy skill, Sims can learn to create the "clone drone" elixir which can be used to create a clone. Clones created via this elixir do not become a part of the active household, and they only retain the original Sim's appearance and personality. Skills, relationships, and so on, do not transfer over to the clone Sims.

The Sims 3: University Life[]

At level 9 of the science skill, Sims gain the ability to clone from scientific samples at the science research station. Sims with a science skill of 9 or above can create a clone of a Sim by selecting "Clone from Sample..." on the science research station and selecting any DNA sample from the Sim's inventory. DNA samples can be collected from any Sim by using the "Ask for DNA sample" social under the "Friendly..." category, which is unlocked at level 8 of the science skill. Or, if a Sim wishes to clone themself, they can use one of the two of their own DNA samples that are received automatically upon reaching level 8 of the science skill. Successfully completing this experiment will add a baby to the family, which will be a copy of the cloned Sim. Failure may destroy the DNA sample and give your Sim a -10 "Just a Minor Setback" moodlet, which will last 6 hours, and a "Singed" moodlet.

Clones created in this way will inherit the appearance, gender, and zodiac sign of the cloned Sim. A complete success will also assign the clone two randomly selected traits from the original Sim, while a partial success will assign two random traits instead. It's also possible that something can go wrong in the cloning process, causing the clone to receive two random "bad" traits. In any case, it's possible for the clone to receive traits which would normally not be available to infant Sims. You will be prompted to name the clone, but hovering over them before this prompt appears reveals that the clone is born with the first name "Specimen" followed by a random four digit string of numbers, rather than the standard "Baby Boy" or "Baby Girl".

Clones created using the science research station are unrelated to any other Sim, and their family tree will have no other Sims on it.

The Sims 4[]

The Sims 4: Get to Work[]

Clones can be made by cloning machine if it's upgraded to be able clone Sims. The clone will have the same physical appearance, clothing, skills and traits as the original Sim, but will not have their career or relationships. Clone Sims will have the heads of the originals, but their bodies will always be the same grey mixed with trims of black and green, and Sims created by the cloning machine will join to the family.

The Sims 4: Realm of Magic[]

Clones also produced by spellcasters for whom able cast the spell "Duplicato". The clone will appear in the original Sim's family tree as their sibling. The clone also hold same physical appearance, clothing and traits as the original Sim, but the relationships between original and clone have to be developed again. However, clones will cast a spell to disappear when times up, and their existence will be removed eventually.

Usage[]

Clone Sims have some very useful uses. They can become servants, lovers, body guards or even to simply fill the household. The player can clone Sims of different life states or make rare hybrids common. The clone Sim will have their traits, but not their skills or careers, meaning they can be taught with what ever skills the player wants, to fill their needs.

For clones produced by spell, the original Sim may order their clone to cook, fight and clean the lot, also Sims are able to interact with clones normally.

Danger of evil clones[]

The fun of having clones by cloning machine is not without risk. The clones each have their own random personalities, so statistically speaking, if the player makes enough amount of clones, one or two will be evil. The player has to be very careful, as they can possibly make a serial killer, a gold digger, or an evil twin of themselves. This can be a huge problem, especially if lots of clones of the same Sim has been created. By that it can be hard to tell which one is evil, and which one is good.
