Claire Ursine is a pre-made adult Sim who lives in Sunset Valley, the neighborhood shipped with The Sims 3. She is the ex-girlfriend of Jared Frio, who is the father of her baby that is born a couple of days after the game starts. When the family is first played, she is 16 days from aging up into an elder.
Claire is good friends with River McIrish, acquaintances with Sandi French, Fiona McIrish, Connor Frio, Ayesha Ansari and her boss, and dislikes her ex-boyfriend. She has three points in the athletic skill- though she needs seven for an increased chance for a promotion- and seven points in fishing and is employed as a Getaway Driver in the criminal career. She carries the book On The Margins in his inventory. If Claire's pregnancy is left alone with story progression on, the baby will be a girl; this is similar to Brandi Broke, except her baby will always be a boy.
It was long speculated by players that she is a nod to Claire the Bear from The Sims: Hot Date, due to their similar first names and the fact that "Ursine" means of, relating to, or resembling bears. Her appearance and clothing are bear-like and she has the angler and kleptomaniac traits, although she does not have the slob trait (slob Sims often have a tendency to go through trash cans); these traits suggest bear-like qualities. A Q&A with the character designer for Sunset Valley confirmed that she is, indeed, a reference to Claire the Bear.[1]
