Circe (Κίρκη) Beaker ( /ˈsɜrrsi ˈbikər/) (née Salamis) (Σαλαμίνα) is a pre-made playable Sim residing in Strangetown from The Sims 2 for PC and PSP. She is married to scientist Loki Beaker.

Biography

Life leading up to The Sims 2

According to the family biography, Circe and her husband use Nervous Subject for unusual scientific experiments, often at the expense of Nervous' health. She has short red hair, black and orange glasses, a grey-black shirt, and tight jeans and flip-flops. She has a job in the Medicine career track at Level 4 as an Intern. Circe is voiced by Gerri Lawlor.

Circe has a memory of learning how to walk, and unlike most Sims in The Sims 2, no more memories of her toddler skills. Her father was presumably absent from her life, as she only has a memory of his death.

As a teenager, Circe "went steady" with childhood friend Vidcund Curious. However, she ended her relationship with him shortly thereafter. Although Vidcund continues to have feelings for her at the start of the game, she does not reciprocate his feelings.

In addition to rejecting Vidcund, she also spurned his brother's advances when he attempted to kiss her, which then started the Beaker/Curious rivalry. Unusually for a pre-made character in The Sims 2, she has pre-set friendships with a townie and a bartender: Abhijeet Cho and Meredith Lillard, yet she does not remember meeting either of them.

When the family is first played, Circe is 23 days away from being an elder. At the start of the game, the first thing Circe will do is go to work. She will usually, if not always, receive a promotion when she arrives home on the first day. Because Circe has reached level 4 of the Medicine career, she has a Medicine career reward available for her to purchase, disregarding the fact that there is already one inside the house.

Circe is extremely neat, midway between shy and outgoing, and very active, but she is completely serious and mean. Her husband's personality is similar to hers, though he is more outgoing and less active. Oddly enough, despite being a Fortune Sim with evident career ambitions, her Interests suggest that she is actually heavily disinterested in Work, or at the very least, does not enjoy talking about it.

Circe has a hidden Knowledge Aspiration token. She is unique in that her gender preferences are set to have equal values between male and female Sims, meaning she is likely bisexual.

Circe, as well as her husband, possess corrupt relationship data found in SimPE, implying unknown family relations to several members of the Curious family, namely Vidcund, Kitty, as well as Annie and Hamm Hogleg. She also has inexplicable family relations to her townie friends Meredith Lillard and Abhijeet Cho.

In some releases of The Sims 2, players were able to click on a tile of the footpath outside their Sim's lot close to the end of their property. There will be an interaction "leave world". Most Sims will leave the lot until the player exits and reloads it. Circe will attempt to leave the lot, but instead she will reappear invisible. Her wedding ring will still be visible.

Judging from her maiden name, "Salamis," her father is probably of Greek ancestry, while her mother, Grainne, is most likely of Irish and Welsh ancestry.

Circe was a greek Goddess/Nymph/Witch, who transformed Ulysses' men into pigs. Her last name, Salamis, is a Greco-Cypriot last name.

If The Sims 2: FreeTime is installed, Circe's predestined hobby will fittingly be Science, because of her very neat and serious personality, along with her husband.

If FreeTime is installed, she will be unable to call Meredith Lillard. The FreeTime patch does not fix this.

Life leading up to The Sims 2 (PSP)

In The Sims 2 for PlayStation Portable, the Beakers are experimenting on Gimi Branko, a garbage man kidnapped after the death of Nervous. When the player attempts to interact with the keypad outside Gimi's cell, either Loki or Circe stops them. If Circe stops them, she proposes a deal that they steal the secret patents that Loki has been hiding from her, stating that she intends to leave him once she obtains them. Upon receiving the patents, she clarifies that her intent to leave Loki was a lie, as the patents are in his name. She then gives the player some money, should they accept it.

When intimidated, Circe will confess her affair with Dominic Newlow to the player. Despite her relationship with Loki having evidently deteriorated, she expresses her confusion over it, as "[she] would never betray [her] husband," and that it was "the one thing [she] promised herself [she'd] never do". Insisting she was turning into Dominic's "obedient little worker ant" when in his presence, this serves as a clue to the player that Dominic is mind-controlling the citizens of Strangetown.

In order to free Gimi from his captivity, the player must distract the Beakers by telling Loki about his wife's affair, which will ultimately cause a fight between them and allow the player to save Gimi.

While working in the Medicine career in the PC version, what happened to Circe's occupation since then is unclear, as her biography only states she "runs the business end of the Beaker operation." Circe is light-skinned in the PSP version, while in the PC version, she is medium-skinned. The blue shirt that she wears in the PSP version can be found in a dresser in the Beaker household in the PC version.

Circe's secrets in The Sims 2 (PSP):

• (Personal): Every time she sneezes, she forgets what happened in the last five minutes.
• (Intimate): Nothing excites her more than volunteering for crazy science experiments.
• (Dark): Circe is secretly jealous of her husband's independence and distinction. Also, she hates his cooking.
• (Circe's Affair): Circe has been sneaking off with Doctor Dominic Newlow!

According to the game's data, she is interested in Food, Entertainment, and, in contrast to her PC counterpart, School and Fashion.

Life leading up to The Sims 4

An official Maxis recreation of Circe and her family was uploaded to the The Sims 4 Gallery on March 14, 2019, marking the 19th anniversary of The Sims. In this timeline, she lives with her husband Loki and Nervous Subject like in The Sims 2, but also with Loki's children Atom and Ceres. Atom and Ceres had first appeared as adults in Oasis Landing, the sub-world shipped with The Sims 3: Into the Future, alongside their Plumbot friend Cyclotron. Their biographies described them as twins who were genetically engineered by Loki. In this recreation, they are children wearing alien suits from The Sims 4: Get to Work. The twins view Loki as their father, but only recognize Circe as their stepmother. Cyclotron does not appear in this version of the household.

Trivia

• The dark lipstick Circe is wearing in the PSP game is uuface-lip-dkmaroon from the PC version. This is unique to her, Bella Goth and Jill Smith as it cannot be applied to the player's Sim.
• In the Simplified Chinese translation of her biography, instead of Circe knowing 238 ways to make someone scream, it states that she knows 238 different ways to make ice cream, and that none of them taste good. The Traditional Chinese translation does not make this change.
• In the Friday the 13th video, there's a blonde woman who seems to be a placeholder for Circe Beaker. She is lacking her glasses and usual outfit, but sports the same haircut. Loki is present in the video, so its easy to assume this mysterious blonde lady was an earlier version of Circe.
• Circe is named after a goddess in Greek mythology.
  • Circe (also spelt Kirké) is a powerful sorceress and goddess in Greek mythology with an exceptional talent for mixing drugs. She was the daughter of the sun god Helios and the Oceanid Perseis. Circe's home was found on the wooded island of Aeaea and was guarded by men she had turned into wolves and lions.
