The Sims 4: High School Years
TS4 Career Chess Team Member

Chess team member is a career track in The Sims 4: High School Years. It is classified as an afterschool activity that is only available to teens. Completing this career track awards the Chess Master trait, which makes the logic skill increase faster, and, for some reason, guarantees an E-Sports scholarship when applying to university[TS4:DU].

The team meets from 3:30 PM to 5:30 PM on Monday and Thursday for practice, and participates in a chess competition every Tuesday. Sims can progress through the career track by leveling up their logic skill and practicing chess.

The computer team members are rivals of the chess team, and the "Rivals" relationship bit will be visible in rival Sims' profiles.

Chance Cards[]

Like all other career tracks and afterschool activities in The Sims 4, there are chance cards for the chess team. However, one major difference is that for all but one of the chance cards, each option the player can choose from has only one possible outcome, rather than the typical two possible outcomes: success and failure. The chance cards are available for chess team members at any level, and appear on practice days. Six of the chance cards are generic, meaning they are available to all four afterschool activities. The two other chance cards are specific to the chess team. There are no fame chance cards.

On Tuesdays, Sims will participate in a chess competition. A pop-up notification similar to regular chance cards will appear, informing the player of whether their team lost or won the competition. These chance cards have only one response for the player to select, and the outcome is always the same.

Like usual, the outcome of chance cards can have an effect on a Sim's emotions and afterschool activity performance. Chance cards can also affect a Sim's relationship with their teammates, rivals, or crush. If The Sims 4: Parenthood is installed, character values will sometimes be affected.

Stretching is really key to being at top performance for team activities. Being sure to keep a balance of mental and physical health is very important! However, <Sim name> may have forgotten to do some much needed self-care time and stretch it out before going into practice today. Even though being a top achiever feels great and often portrayed as high reward, taking care of <himself/herself> should come first. <Sim name> will remember to take a stretch break next time.

Competition Day - Loss
It was <Sim name>'s turn to play in the chess competition. <He/She> practiced every chance possible but the silence and tension in the room was much different from playing at home, in the town square, or at school. Time began to tick down and the opponent was making some impressive moves. <Sim name> was also making some qualified moves but an abrupt noise in the audience pulled <his/her> attention away! While looking across the room <he/she> heard a "Gotcha" from the opponent. Distraction really took over the day, the opponent held their composure and was able to find a way to win.

Competition Day - Win
It is time for the big chess competition and <Sim name> is up to go head to head against another chess player from another town. The room was very still and quiet. <Sim name> liked to be creative when playing, imagining what it would be like to be a miniature piece on a giant chessboard. Thinking of this helped <him/her> concentrate and focus till the end of the match. Now, imagining the giant chess board, this time <Sim name> is the bishop and the queen. Quickly seeing the opportunity, <Sim name> ends the game a winner with the scholars mate move! A scholarly chess champion, indeed!
Way to go!
