In video games, a cheat is a feature, added by the game developers and hidden from normal gameplay, that changes the game mechanics in some form. In The Sims series, cheats are typically achieved through entering cheat codes into a text window, which is opened through a unique key combination (usually CTRL + SHIFT + C).
Cheats are used for many reasons, including story making, glitch fixing, just for fun or to make a tricky situation easier. There are cheats in The Sims, The Sims 2 and The Sims 3.

Cheats are used mainly to aid in gameplay by eliminating certain challenges or obstacles. Cheats can also be activated to aid in story telling, to fix bugs or glitches in the game, or just for the enjoyment of the player. The term "cheat" applies to every use of these hidden codes or features, regardless of whether the cheats give the player an unearned advantage. Thus a player can use cheats without "cheating" the game, though this depends on which cheats are used and how they are used.
In Windows and Mac OS X, cheats are also mentioned in the readme (The Sims 2, The Sims Stories and The Sims 3).

CheatsButton

In video games, a cheat is a feature, added by the game developers and hidden from normal gameplay, that changes the game mechanics in some form. In The Sims series, cheats are typically achieved through entering cheat codes into a text window, which is opened through a unique key combination (usually CTRL + SHIFT + C).

Cheat Mode

To get into to cheat mode, press CTRL + SHIFT + C during game play. Once you are in cheat mode, simply type in the cheat and hit Enter. Do this every time you want to use one of the cheats. Cheats can be repeated by typing the expression ";!" after the code. Ending the code with "!" will repeat the cheat indefinitely until the player either closes the cheat box or removes the colon.

Some versions of Windows such as Windows Vista or some computers with the CTRL + SHIFT + C which opens a program, may require you to press CTRL + SHIFT + WINDOWS LOGO + C in order to open the cheat console.
