Real-World Inspirations[]

Etymology[]

  • The name origin of Britechester is possibly an alternative spelling of "bright," as it is pronounced /braɪt/ in English and derived from the Old English word "beorht", meaning "shining." It is combined with the suffix "-chester," from the Old English word "ceaster," which in comes from a Latin word of "castra", meaning "military camp" or "fortified place." Together, the name can be translated as "shining fortified place."
  • Foxbury Institute is possibly named after the fox, combined with the suffix "-bury," derived from the Old English word "burh," meaning "fortified place" or simply "fort." The name can be translated as "fort where foxes are found."
  • Gibbs Hill is named after the Scottish-origin surname Gibbs. The surname itself means "son of Gibb," and "Gibb" is diminutive of "Gilbert," a given name of Norman origin derived from the Old German "Gisilberht," meaning "bright pledge."

Trivia[]

  • This is the first university-themed world in The Sims series that is a main residential world, unlike the college sub-neighborhood worlds of The Sims 2: University and The Sims 3: University Life, which only allowed Sims to live at a lot if they were a college student.
  • It is the first university world to contain two universities at the same time: the three universities in The Sims 2: University were all in separate worlds.
  • Britechester has swimmable water.
  • In one of the set-dressing buildings in Gibbs Hill you can hear a track from the The Sims: Hot Date soundtrack.
  • Britechester is one of the few worlds where cars drive on the left side of the road. The other worlds are Mt. Komorebi, Henford-on-Bagley, and Tomarang.
