Betty Newbie

Betty Newbie (née Simovitch) is a Sim first introduced during the player tutorial in The Sims. After the completion of the tutorial, she (along with Bob Newbie) can be played like other Sims. Due to the chronology of events in The Sims series, she appears as a teen under her maiden name in The Sims 3, residing in Riverview. Aside from these major titles, Betty appears in several console titles, and appears (as a deceased Sim) in the family tree of several Sims in The Sims 2.

An official Maxis recreation of Betty, Bob, and their dog Buddy from the console version of The Sims 2: Pets was uploaded to the The Sims 4 Gallery on February 15, 2019, marking the 19th anniversary of The Sims. Betty is unemployed, has no skills, and is 23 days from becoming an adult. If the player does not have The Sims 4: City Living, her unflirty trait is replaced with loner.

Biography[]

Betty is featured as a teen, 13 days away from becoming a young adult. She lives in Riverview with her parents, Fatima and Vadim. Her mother dreams of Betty becoming a musician and hopes she will follow that path. Betty enjoys music but doesn't know if she wants to make it into a career like her mother envisions.

When the game starts, she is best friends with Bob Newbie. Even though the chronology of the series places Bob as her future husband, if left alone with the story progression on, she may form relationships with other men. However, she can easily be directed to start a romance with Bob if the player desires, due to their high friendship level.

Biography[]

By the time the storyline has caught up to The Sims 2, Betty and her husband Bob are already deceased. Through her daughter, Brandi, Betty has two grandsons; Dustin and Beau, with a third on the way. Brandi was widowed by her husband, Skip, before the storyline of The Sims 2 began. She has similar clothes and a hairstyle to Coral Oldie. Betty died shortly before the birth of her first grandson. Her husband died earlier; both died while Brandi was pregnant. When her character file is viewed in SimPE, her hair genes are for black hair, which is rather strange since she has brown hair in all of her other appearances. This could imply her hair was dyed brown in The Sims 3, or it could be a simple continuity error. By looking at the family pictures, it can be seen that Betty had lost weight. According to her age data in SimPE, Betty had 15 days left in the elder life stage when she died.

In The Sims for console, there are two separate instances of Betty between the different modes.

In the Free-play Mode, Betty Newbie lives with Bob Newbie in 7 Sim Avenue wearing a blue cap, blue glasses, blue top, blue pants, and red shoes. They both share a 20+ relationship, so it is unknown if they are really married. Neither one has a job, but it may be best to put them in the Military career track, since they are both very active, her zodiac sign is Pisces in this mode. She likes to read, play in the fountain, watch TV, and look at flamingos.

Meanwhile, in the Get a Life Storyline, she appears as Betty Roomies, being one of the Sims the player can move in with after level 3, with interests in Travel and Music. Her zodiac sign is Cancer in this mode. She can also be seen at the ending movie, wanting to give the player a high-five.

Biography[]

Betty appears a bit later when playing the Newbie family tutorial. She is considered the helpful housewife from 1950s suburbia. The Newbie home (7 Sim Lane) also has a 1950s suburbia theme, making it a custom-rendered tutorial. She is not in love with Bob, but players who play the Newbie family beyond the tutorial can handle their relationship as they please (although every adult Sim couple is considered spouses in The Sims).

A different version of Betty appeared in the Japanese version of the game, with a fit physique, a white dress, black hair, and completely different facial features.

According to SimEnhancer, Betty was the second Sim created in Neighborhood 1.

Trivia[]

Betty, along with Mortimer Goth, Bella Goth, Bob Newbie, Daniel Pleasant, The Grim Reaper, and Agnes Crumplebottom are the only pre-made Sims to appear in all four of the main series games.
Betty looks very similar to Janitor Tanya from The Sims: Vacation and Tidy Heidi from The Sims: Unleashed, although Betty has brown hair while Tanya and Heidi have black hair.
Betty's body and clothing in The Sims are very similar to those of Peggy Bundy from the TV series Married With Children.
Simmers have noted similarities between Betty and Eliza Pancakes. Firstly, both are named from diminutives of the given name Elizabeth, and both are married to men named Bob. Furthermore, Eliza's hairstyle is very similar to Betty's in The Sims 3. Her athletic pursuits are also reminiscent of Betty's in the console version of The Sims.
