A beach towel is an object in The Sims 2: Castaway, The Sims 3: Seasons, The Sims 3 (Wii), The Sims 4: Island Living, and The Sims 4: Life & Death, functioning as a special subcategory of rugs. Sims can rest on them, and under some circumstances build skills.

To narcoleptics, a sleeping mat is almost medicinal. However, you'll probably just use it during overnight hikes.
The mat is automatically added to the player's inventory by default at the start of the game. Sims can sleep on it, or perform yoga on it.

They are not available in buy mode, build mode, nor buydebug; instead they are automatically generated when a Sim selects "Relax Here" on any available outdoor flat on-lot space.
By default, the Sim will lay down on it with the back up and the head leaning right, at which point three noticeable interactions exist:
- "Put Up Umbrella", which generates an umbrella next to the towel. Designed for Sims who don't want to get a sun tan nor sunburns.
- "Play Music", which generates an Audio Lite by LoFi Audio stereo near the Sim's head, even if there was no such stereo in the Sim's inventory nor anywhere else on the lot.
- "Nap on Towel", which does exactly that.
- "Lay on Back", where the Sim changes the resting position. "Lay on Stomach" reverts the Sim back to the initial position.
The towel's design is picked at random each time a Sim selects "Relax here".
The Sims 3 (Wii)[]
Beach towels are available in buy mode as pre-placed objects. When sunbathing on them, Sims will lie down face-up.

There is also a similar object with seemingly identical functionality known as the yoga mat.

The Sims 4[]
Beach towels can be purchased in build mode, or from any "iLand Beach Shax" vending machine, and they can be stored in Sims' inventories.
Beach towels can typically be found in Sulani's community lots, and Sims will autonomously use beach towels placed at beaches and pools. Sims can use beach towels to sunbathe, which will give them a tan or a sunburn, depending on how long they use it for. If another Sim is currently sunbathing, the active Sim can prank them by squirting sunscreen all over them, resulting in strange-looking tan lines. The towel from Life & Death has a different set of interactions to the towels from Island Living.

Whether it's cloudgazing or moonbathing, this towel is great to rest on while you take in the sights of the sky! Or, better yet, put it out in your yard to make everyone think you do those things but never actually use it. Because who has time for tangible life experiences when you could just curate the perfect public image? You've got algorithms to feed, anyway.
