A bathtub is an object that appears in most of The Sims games. The primary use is improving a Sim's hygiene, as well as other traits or moods. Only children and older Sims can independently use the object, while toddlers[TS2] and pets[TS:U][TS2:P][TS3:P] require the help of those Sims. Bathtubs are generally 2x1 objects, but The Sims, The Sims Deluxe Edition, The Sims 3: High-End Loft Stuff, and The Sims 4 have high-end bathtubs that are 2x2.

Some bathtubs have shower fixtures, but most do not.

Bathtubs in The Sims 2 (and expansions) also provide comfort. All bathtubs allow Sims to take bubble baths, which give more Comfort, but are slightly less efficient at providing Hygiene. The shower feature of shower-tubs gives more Hygiene than a bath (and takes less time) but does not give Comfort. Hygiene scores are given as Bath/Bubble bath/Shower (for shower-tubs). Comfort scores are given as Bath/Bubble bath.

Sims with 8 or more playful points can play in a bathtub, where they will pretend to be a pirate captain on a boat.

Bathtubs are used to bathe toddlers. If Pets is installed, bathtubs can also be used to bathe dogs. It's best to have some extra space in front of the bathtub in order to allow pets to properly route in and out of the object, and to place the faucet far enough away from the door to allow Sims to wash the dog.

Sims can take bubble baths like in The Sims 2, but must first purchase the "World's Brew Bubble Bath" object from any grocery store and then place it on the sides of the tub for the option to become available. Sims can also purchase a rubber ducky for a positive "Duck Time" moodlet. Sims will use a bathtub as a seating surface for eating, when there are no other available on the lot.

The Sims 4

In The Sims 4, bathtubs function similarly to how they did in the previous games. Expensive bathtubs provide better positive moodlets.[confirmation needed] Like in The Sims 2, Sims can bathe toddlers. Strangely, they can even be bathe when water supply is cut off from the unpaid bills. If The Sims 4: Spa Day is installed, Sims can take mud baths and body soaks in the bathtub.

Much like The Sims 3, bathtubs in The Sims 4 can upgraded to be equipped with a clean coat (increase hygiene gain rate), sturdy faucet (reduce breakage rate) or be self-cleaning.
